South Florida is loaded with hybrids but there aren’t as many pure LBs as usual. Even in a down year, the area is still producing some good players.

*= Verified numbers

Rosendo Louis- 6’1, 237 (Deerfield Beach)- Classic run-and-hit linebacker. Very good acceleration. Plays with energy and aggression. Wide frame. The most college-ready LB prospect in area.

Yasir Abdullah- 6’1, 188, 4.54* (Carol City)- Productive and versatile player with track speed. 10.75 in the 100M. Played mostly secondary before leaving the Gulf Coast for South Florida. Now he’s made his name as a DE. More of a drag-down tackler than a striker. Very good motor.

Donovan Georges
- 6’, 237, 4.99* (Champagnat)- This guy was hyped as a young player, but now it seems like he’s underrated. Physically similar to Jon Beason and Denzel Perryman. Thick, squatty body with twitch. If he gets in shape and sticks with a college program he can be a good player.

Calvin Hart- 6’, 207* (American Heritage)- Run and strike player. Has bend and can really tackle. Plays with passion and energy. Easy Power 5 prospect with multiple offers.

Junior Season - Calvin Hart Jr highlights - Hudl

Billy Joseph- 6’, 213* (Northwestern)- Instinctive, physical leader at MLB. Very quick to diagnose. Not particularly explosive but tough and strong.

Freekodak The Goat - Billy Joseph highlights - Hudl

Jaquan Beaver- 5’10, 185* (Booker T)- Instinctive player who lines up all over for an undersized Tornadoes defense. Got snaps at DT, DE and OLB in ’16. Should play a more traditional MLB role this year. Quick and always around the ball. Would like to see a little more violence in his game.

"PRESSURE" - Jaquan Beaver highlights - Hudl

Rocky Shelton- 5’11, 206* (St. Thomas Aquinas)- Undersized tackling machine. Very good footwork. Can sift through traffic. Not a striker but good open-field tackler. Duke commit.

2016 JR Highlights - Darrell Rocky Shelton highlights - Hudl

Antquan Kinsey- 6’, 200 (Miami High)- Booker T transfer who plays like a missile. Straight-line player. Good speed once he has a flightpath. Should excel early in his college career on special teams.

Derrick Nicholson- 6’, 195 (Northwestern)- Smart, smooth player with very good movement skills. Can cut through the junk. MVP of local Rivals camp after excelling in coverage. Similar to Waynmon Steed but not as good physically.

Abraham Beauplan- 6’, 205 (Boynton Beach)- Smaller, sideline-to-sideline LB who moves well in coverage. Active and takes good angles. Not afraid of contact. Early Pitt offer.

Carlton Cleophat – 6’ 200, 4.87*(Blanche Ely)- Tightly wound SS/LB hybrid who can run. Very athletic and springy. Plays with pop. Still raw as an everydown LB.

Jalen Mackie- 6’1, 218* (St. Thomas Aquinas)- Downhill thumper with classic MLB build. Looks like a college player. Solid short-area burst. Can take on blockers. Playing in space is not his game. Kind of reminds me of a post-injury Jon Beason.

Kewan Parker- 5’11, 190 (Carol City)- The unsung hero of Carol City’s state champion defense. Fast and aggressive with excellent acceleration and COD. Might be more of a safety at the next level due to size and coverage ability. Northern Illinois commit.

Jamian Lovett- 6’1, 200 (Oxbridge)- Another missile who is easy to project to special teams. Excellent twitch and pop on contact. Downhill player.

Kaleb McCarty- 6’1, 225, 4.86* (St. Thomas Aquinas)- Jacked-up, intense competitor with some size and speed. Plays very hard and shows emotion. Some stiffness but good overall physical tools. Originally from Oxbridge.

Kenny Bastida- 6’1, 220, 5.3* (Deerfield Beach)- Big linebacker who had a productive spring for a killer Deerfield Beach front seven. Needs to get faster.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/5169611/5928597ab023d404dcfe952a (spring)

Grayson Crozier- 6’, 195 (St. Thomas Aquinas)- Yet another STA front seven player with next level potential. Undersized but plays as fast as anyone in the region. Should be a demon on special teams. Brother of Coleman (’18 hybrid prospect) and Ryan (Uconn). Early offer from Navy.

Donovan Georges looks like Beason and Perryman? Did you look at him in a carnival fun house mirror? He looks like he swallowed a hoppity hop. And he runs like a sickly wounded tapir.

Kewan is my favorite of all of the underrated & undersized kids. That jit is TOUGH, no other way to describe it. Kid's nickname is Thug(for on-field reasons only) for crying out loud. Yet another one of Row's kids from optimist(Nayquan, Cook, Macho, etc.). Imo, if he were 6'1" 210-215, he'd be a mid to high 4 star guy, we'd be all over his *** like stank on **** and probably would've never made a run at a guy like Gainer. I agree with your athletic assessment of him D$ and also factor in that he has NO FEAR and a knack for disruptive plays. Send your 6'3" 300+ lb guard pulling at him on a trap play and if he don't come correct, 10 outta 10 times Thug'll whiplash his ***. If he winds up staying with N. Illinois he's gonna flat out dominate the MAC just watch.

I agree. I love D Money's work but it doesn't look like Georges is anywhere near the level of Perryman or Beason.

IIRC he had a major injury and lost explosiveness. Even if he loses 15-20 pounds, it's definitely a stretch to say he'd be at the level of two of the best LBs we've had over the last 15 years.

Let me be clear: he's not as good as those guys. And he's definitely not as committed in the weight room.

But if he got in shape, he'd have a similar physical profile. Same height and weight with 4.7-4.8 speed, which is the range the other two ran in. Like I said, conditioning is key for him.

I'll just disagree on this one. I think Beason came in around 200 pounds as a Safety. Georges looks like a dirigible. He might be 250 pounds. You can guess that if he lost 50 pounds he could look and run like Beason, but I think that's a stretch.

He's just a porky kid who peaked physically as a 14 year old like lots of kids do. He looks like he'd be better off going all-in and bloating himself into a fairly athletic DT. He reminds me more of Teraz McCray than Beason or Perryman.

This **** looks like a shark hunting his prey. If we don't land him I will be highly disappointed.

R. Louis and Y. Abdullah would be my pick of this group!! (I been campaigning for Yasir)

Looking at the rest of the list, which others bring that very fast physical bruising ability to the table??

I know most of the board is down on him but Donovan Georges is a stud. I seen him in the spring and came away very impressed.

Sorry, D - disagree. Kid just doesn't have the body type to stay at a good weight.

I think we are going to regret not offering Abdullah. He is one of those recruits that I hope jumps out the window his SR year and gives the staff no choice but to offer him.

I definitely feel we should wait until at least Paradise to pull the trigger on a hard close at LB. We're only taking 2 or 3. And Abdullah could prove he deserves that ship playing against the other top guys. Same thing at that last WR spot and both sides of the line.

Right now, I'd prefer Louis at MLB, Reese at OLB and Sherwood as the third take (assuming Jones and Gainer are low probability). But lots of late bloomers only hit their stride between 16-18 years old. It's very possible Abdullah outplays them all at Paradise.
