Soooo.......

Lotta positive

Lotta negative

Positives:

We've been excellent against the run thus far.
We have plenty of explosive talent on offense.
Berrios has been even better than I could have dreamed.
Kaaya has a ton of poise and showed that today with a couple mishandles, but still made the correct plays
Carter, Bush, D. Crawford (sans that one mishap), A. Crawford and Elder are studs

Negatives:

We still have alignment issues against up-tempo offenses
Didn't see much in the way of 4 man pressure
Artie, Gunter, and Tracy looked really bad in man coverage downfield.
Those deep balls and long plays were essentially freebies. Blown coverages and mismatches. Won't happen against improved competition.
Coley has absolutely no idea what he's doing. He's throwing darts at his call sheet.

Most importantly:

Our offensive line has been a problem since Louisville. What I learned today is that the problem will not be solved this season. That right side is putrid and Shane McDermott is less then serviceable at center. You have a problem when you have a line with one guy who can't pull his own weight...we have 3.

Exactly how many people can run with Dorsett? Its always a mismatch. The Gators know it. Everyone knows. Stay in in the shotgun, play action to Duke and let it fly. Notre Dame knows it too. Dorsett just didn't make the catches. Too many guys you can put out there. Teams can't stay with all of them.

If I shade a safety to his side, I essentially eliminate his threat.
If you don't have the time to make a deep throw, I eliminate his threat.

Maybe he does that all year this year, but in past years, PD has had games like this only to go into witness protection during games against quality opponents. I'll concede that there may be a lot of factors involved in that, but at this point, he's a senior and he's played in far too many big games where he didn't have an impact and at some point, that isn't an accident. I'll be overjoyed if he turns over a new leaf starting next week, but to say I'm not expecting it, would be a gross understatement.

watching it in person.....coley still has strange inconsistent playcalling (opened the playbook up in the beginnings and then started calling a bunch of bad trick plays), offensive still can't hold there blocks or drive guys back, coach d doesn't like to run nickel and dime packages even when they're painfully obviously needed, duke johnson goin duke johnson. kaaya looks poised, throws a great ball, and makes pretty good decisions overall when he has time. wtf do any of our db's know how to locate a ball in the air? should of been several ints. so many underthrown balls or balls with too much air under them from the ark state qb. need to take advantage of that. special teams still struggles

All things considered...

1) KAAYA looked good. Better deep ball thrower then I suspected too. I see where people are getting the "young Peyton manning" comparisons from. He has the same throwing motion and poise. Once we get a stud OL to block for him it's curtains.

2) I personally like this new Duke Johnson. I know people miss the home run type runs but he is a pile mover now too. The added weight allows him to miss more tackles too. The old Duke went down if u blew on him.

3) if we can't utilize Dorsett then shame on us. Huge weapon. We will miss him when he's gone.

4) defense played solid but a lot of the mistakes seemed on the players to me. Missed tackles, blown coverages, bad DB play, dumb penalties..how is this any of Dnofrios fault? The guy called a good game if u ask me. At some point these players need to hold themselves accountable too.

5) Test #2 for KAAYA next Saturday. Let's see if he learned anything from the last loss.

Hard to judge anything off today just like last week. We played a really terrible team today, and they are poorly coached on top of it. Their defense is atrocious, and they posed no threat in the passing game. This is sort of similar to last season in that we are playing some awful teams early, and it's fool's gold.

Been burned way too many times by Folden's Follies. You know how he says, "Don't take the cheese!"? I'm not taking any cheese from this team ever. Prove it against something other than a HS team. Any time we play a good team we fold up like a bunch of pukes.

We need to set a rule here. If you think Miami sucks and will get rolled by virtually team they play that's your prerogative, but you can't bash the same team when Miami beats them.

Thinking we're bad and could lose to any team on our schedule doesn't mean we think the **** teams on our schedule are any good.

More worried than ever about Coley. Those Dorsett bombs look great in the stat book but you're not going to get 4 plays of over 50 yards with the same guy against a good team.

We can't sustain drives and largely continue to ignore the middle of the field. I honestly have no idea how he's calling plays at this level.

Anyone thinking beating a team of Arkansas State's caliber means anything needs to shoot themselves in the face. Talk to me after Nebraska and we can assess where we're at and if any progress is actually being made.

the offensive playcalling was better but still had some head scratchers, he did some quick read throws and throws down the field and he trusted kaaya more, defense made some nice hits but ****ed up in tackling in space

all in all i felt a little more optimistic about the team, just a little though

special teams sucked by the way who coaches that again

These idiots don't understand the concept. We were HOPING that bad team would beat us...find me anywhere on this board where there was any sort of consensus that said we WOULD lose or that Arkansas State was a better team.

Defense needs to look a little better. Offense will go as far as the coaching will take it. We need to work on special teams. The kicker made at least two tackles today on kickoffs. Oline must improve.

Defense still looked lost. I was at game and was paying attention to details and they still weren't ready at the snap. Still refuse to go to 5 DB when they go 4 or 5 wide. Still have LB covering slot WR. Still can't cover WR when QB breaks contain and throws floaters. We should have beaten that team by 50, they were not good.

A lot of the refusal to go with 5 DB's was actually because the up-tempo offense hurts substitutions. I agree with the rest.

bs...even after timeouts they were still sticking with their base 3-4 d

LOL he's the idiot yet you're the one hoping that we lose....I'd rather him have posting privileges than you...what type of ****** fan actually hopes his team loses ? Lmfao man . Never in my life have I rooted against the Canes, and I never will

Am glad we won but some of you wanna act like beating Ark St should be met with some unrivaled joy. That's how much standards have fallen here. It's the ineptness of our staff where people can realistically think we may lose to them. Like UL who swamped us had to pull their QB today. These are not good teams.

Fools gold. Arkansas State is really bad. No pass rush, and their secondary is VERY slow. Dorsett was running free all day. The Corners were running with lead shoes on, and where were their Safeties?

I'm seeing a whole lot of different comments from what I was reading up until this morning. Lovin' it!

I agree with 'Chise, I'm not taking the cheese here, but at the same time, I'm grateful for a W today.
