Lotta positive
Lotta negative
Positives:
We've been excellent against the run thus far.
We have plenty of explosive talent on offense.
Berrios has been even better than I could have dreamed.
Kaaya has a ton of poise and showed that today with a couple mishandles, but still made the correct plays
Carter, Bush, D. Crawford (sans that one mishap), A. Crawford and Elder are studs
Negatives:
We still have alignment issues against up-tempo offenses
Didn't see much in the way of 4 man pressure
Artie, Gunter, and Tracy looked really bad in man coverage downfield.
Those deep balls and long plays were essentially freebies. Blown coverages and mismatches. Won't happen against improved competition.
Coley has absolutely no idea what he's doing. He's throwing darts at his call sheet.
Most importantly:
Our offensive line has been a problem since Louisville. What I learned today is that the problem will not be solved this season. That right side is putrid and Shane McDermott is less then serviceable at center. You have a problem when you have a line with one guy who can't pull his own weight...we have 3.
Exactly how many people can run with Dorsett? Its always a mismatch. The Gators know it. Everyone knows. Stay in in the shotgun, play action to Duke and let it fly. Notre Dame knows it too. Dorsett just didn't make the catches. Too many guys you can put out there. Teams can't stay with all of them.
If I shade a safety to his side, I essentially eliminate his threat.
If you don't have the time to make a deep throw, I eliminate his threat.
Maybe he does that all year this year, but in past years, PD has had games like this only to go into witness protection during games against quality opponents. I'll concede that there may be a lot of factors involved in that, but at this point, he's a senior and he's played in far too many big games where he didn't have an impact and at some point, that isn't an accident. I'll be overjoyed if he turns over a new leaf starting next week, but to say I'm not expecting it, would be a gross understatement.
