Someone who is making a lot of plays…

They did not give him the Innis and Jeremiah treatment. Beat them for someone top level where they send everything and I’ll say OSau wanted someone. I said during that cycle that Chance would never be a star and possibly never play here. He was to slow imo for a wr at the college level. If he was top level we wouldn’t be partaking WRs over him, and he is always getting passed by other guys we get. Maybe I am wrong but we will see

you been waiting two years for this exact moment
Only reason I told Mario to recruit him. 💯 He was like Ryan Williams this, Jeremiah Smith that. TJ Moore, Ryan Wingo. Blah blah blah. It’s not as funny coach!

He's got a Chance to make an impact here.
You know….I like his Chances
No CHANCE ! 👀

Honestly if Dawson was the OC at some mid university and we saw:

Year 1 he took the same cast of characters on offense and improved the team by more than 1 full yard per play over the previous OC improving like 60-70 spots (or whatever it was)

Year 2 with an elite QB shattered every record in the schools history

This board would be giving him 15 mill a year to be the head coach

Nothing personal to you just saying
Reasonable take.

I might be in the minority, but I am not ready to crown Dawson just yet. I need to see what Dawson can do without Superman in shotgun. I don’t think that is too much to ask for. I’d also mention that (AFAIK) he did not garner any head coaching interest after delivering the number 1 offense in the country. You’d think some mid-level program would at least interview him for a head coaching opportunity after such an incredible year.

I want Dawson to prove doubters like me wrong. I’ve seen too many “flavor of the month” coordinators flame out after one great year. I need to make sure its his system that excels, and not just the player (Ward).

Oh yeah I think things gotta either be “crown” or “corch” but it’s rarely ever that right?

I agree with you in general. We see things under a microscope so sometimes I try and take a step back a bit

He's been here for 1 year, and was injured for pretty much all of it. It would be an issue if guys couldn't pass up someone who couldn't even practice.

I dont think he'll be a star either but Hartline doesn't recruit someone all year long that he doesn't see a good bit of talent in and wants. Im not the biggest fan of Mario but at the same time im not going to move goal post on him.

I am just saying when we targeted him I was ok with it, but to me he was a depth piece and there is nothing wrong with that. Every team has guys that have some talent but you do not want playing starting minutes. They are guys that either transfer or just stay depth pieces like Chase Smith. They know their role. I didn't like his film......am I wrong? we will see I hope he's a star wr but I am just stating my opinion. Not every recruit we get will be good/great, thats cfb.

Hartline gets top heavy then the rest are ok, you cant get 5 star wr after 5 star wr, you get some and some are busts and some work out. This cycle you have Keys and thats it probably. No one else really moving the needle tbh.

I said it back when Chance committed. Mario has a "type". Fletcher, Lofton, Robinson, Bain. They don't really fit the normal definition of the ideal traits. But they have that combination of "field awareness", center of gravity, balance and power that more than compensates. And they are overachievers. I think Chance is going to be a good one if he can stay healthy.
WE NEED SOME TRAITS. To compete at the level we want.

Don’t you actually need players for the system to excel?

I was just about to type that Cam determined who was getting the ball last year. He made a point of spreading it around.
Let's see if Carson can take advantage of his opportunity to really "own" the offense

Knowing that there’s gonna be considerably less improv from Beck, that’s gonna put more onus on Dawson to call the right play, unless they give Beck free will to audible, like Cam had.

I need to see improvement from Dawson in:
1. Better run game diversity, he was way to predictable in utilizing the same half dozen or so calls
2. Draw and screen game - under utilized with little diversity
3. More misdirection (both run and pass) to exploit Beck’s athleticism
4. Creativity to get young playmakers easy touches - it stung watching BSmith crush at SMU…. We’ve got a lot of talented but unproven skill guys. I wanna see Dawson engineer easy touches for Carr, Lofton, Schott, Toney, Pringle
(Screens, jet sweeps, swing passes, wild cat)

I’m not saying Dawson is bad, but most people that have played competitive football would agree that when watching Dawson while at Miami, he’s not winning a chess match with his play calls….. he’s got a ton of room to improve

This is a big year for Dawson. I’m not a believer until he puts back-to-back years together. I don’t expect the #1 offense but I want to see a top 15 - 20 offense. Guidry had one good year too!!
In 2023 Miami was 31st in total offense and 39th in scoring offense. That includes games where TVD was completely broken and games with Emory Williams doing a whole lot of nothing. Beck doesn’t have to be Superman for this offense to be a top 20 unit. He just needs to not be Tyler Van Dyke or Emory Williams.

So we comp. Chance to? ...Innis-type?

Wr & DE are 2 positions with a lot of mouths to feed. Of the youngsters, especially at Wr, it's tough to call who separates. Can't give them all legit game reps., so someone has to sit. And, of course, may not wait around.

You’re not going to see a lot of variety in the run game. You may see a little more outside zone and an occasional pin/pull toss because we’re not alternating two 230 lb running backs anymore but that’s about it.

There were sacrifices Mario was willing to make when he brought in an Air Raid coordinator. What he wasn’t going to budge on is his run game philosophy. The first priority is to not lose yardage on run plays. Risk/reward plays like sweeps and counters aren’t going to be in our playbook.

Our WR/TE screen game was elite last year but running back screen plays were mostly nonexistent. That’s mostly because teams just dropped 8 against us and dared Cam to throw the ball downfield. Screens are only effective if the opponent is bringing pressure. If the opponent is only rushing three, a running back screen pass won’t gain much.

Agree except in the run game, half dozen run plays is stretching it.
