Some Kool Aid from the great Bruce Feldman

Just a question(for anyone).... last year before Cam entered the portal. Who was considered the better QB? I'm asking because I wasn't following Cam before we started pursing him.

A lot of people were saying that Cam Ward was a productive player at some lesser programs (Incarnate Word, Washington State) who was somewhat error-prone and might fall to Day 3 of the NFL draft.

And a lot of people were saying that Carson Beck, based on his 2023 season, could very well have been a first-round pick with a good 2024 season. Even with all the WR drops, Beck was having a very good 2024 before his injury. Given what we saw in the NFL draft, even if Cam Ward had the 2024 he had, if Carson Beck had not been injured, one would think that Beck would have been either the first or second quarterback drafted in the first round.

Playing at Washington State enhanced cams value if anything. Because he was able to show out like that on a horrible team and a horrible conference. Kim's problem and why he ended up coming here in the first place had nothing to do with Washington State or Georgia or Miami or anywhere else it was his own game that had to improve. He had to prove to everybody that he could be safer with the ball that he wouldn't take as many risks when he was running when he was standing in the pocket etc. He did make substantial improvement in those categories and also helped that he had an offensive line that he could **** near pitch a tent and roast s'mores with before he'd have to throw. Kim's situation was a perfect mesh of multiple occurrences. I don't think being at Georgia throughout makes it 10 times better when the reality is SEC defenses and physicality is another tier obviously from pac 12 or 10 whatever the **** that ***** called over there. Now do I think he would have figured it out at Georgia probably far quicker, absolutely. Cam really is one of one. The kid is amazing and we're blessed to have been able to get him here and experience a year with him. I would have loved to see what 4 years with him would have looked like. But don't take away the fact Carson Beck is pretty good. Georgia or not the kids pretty good he has nice and tangibles. Obviously having Brock Bowers did a world for his career. That kid makes or breaks a quarterback regardless. What he does without him and a decent offense we'll just have to see.

Kim?

Same here bro cant believe how bad hes gotten **** on especially on here. I expect it from others but with our QB history the last 20 years he will easily be top 2 long as hes healthy!! What i hope is happening is hes seeing all this and saying oh ya watch this!! Hope he shows tf out! He put up 3500+ yards 25+ tds in the SEC west sure he can put up 4k 30 plus tds in the ACC. Go look at the schedule UGA had last year compared to ours this year lol. If we can have 2 QBS in a row go #1 in the draft we'll establish that QB pipeline like OSU has at WR. Which will in turn bring us the the Elite skill positions Oline always gonna be good! Any real fan should be lookin to the football gods for Beck to do good this year!
The game in the ACC will be so slow for him that he could start knitting back there.

It will be controlled mayhem as he carves up teams as the O line gives him all day to read the opposing D.

This whole time I thought @k9cane was tripping.

Yeah I do remember Beck getting alot of buzz around that time. And I also remember me calling him overrated lol

And that's fine, I'm not knocking your opinion. I'm just commenting on what the "general consensus" was at that particular time.

I've said from last two years he's overrated. Brock Bowers would make any QB look amazing. But he was also playing in a conference with a different level of physicality and defenses from what he'll see on any given Saturday in acc. It can't be overstated that sec and acc are night and day in that regard alone. I think sec as a whole is overrated. But just like any conference style of play says a lot and is evident throughout. Big 10 & sec they're better coached normally and they're more physical. Doesn't mean their teams are any better than ACC teams. But it's night and day the style of play. If he's healthy throughout this conference will be like a Sunday stroll for him.

I heard all these excuses for Bryce Young and look how that's worked out.

At the end of the day you're at Georgia - you have a talent advantage on most of the teams you're playing against.

Not sure where the comparison is. When did Bryce ever have the most dropped passes for a P4/P5 team? Bryce never threw 10+ interceptions. Beck had a 72% completion rate and Bryce had 67 in his best year. Bryce is 5'10 and ended up drafted 1st overall. Bryce had a better OC than Beck (Bill O'Brien vs Bobo).

I think beck can be good here but no chance he goes #1. Scouts will say he “ doesn’t care about football”

I was calling Cam for Heisman in the spring of last year

BUT the caveat there was I didn’t know dude was wired like Kobe Bryant. I knew his arm talent was off the chart (pause?)

But the first time I heard interviews with him and was told a few things by people close to the program I knew he was gonna be it so I went all in during spring

Beck would have been appealing at the time because I think he was an extremely safe and effective option. Cam felt more risky which I guess comparing their games isn’t all that far off

He’s been throwing now for a bit. Can someone just tell me about how that’s going ?

And the mike bobo angle has been undersold. Kirby hired Stacy searles and Mike bobo. That was a sinking ship and he regained them. If he doesn’t maybe Beck stays. Who knows. Both those guys are awful and multiple guys on here predicted this saying monken to bobo is a huge downgrade. And Stacy sucks. Kirby just thought he could recruit past it

Sure, but his mom...

Will be elated if I'm wrong about this, but I don't at all see Feldman's view.

Beck needs the system to work for his specific skill set. Cam's rise to #1 overall is partly because he is the system or can be successful between them.

Two very different values, IMO.
If I may - if this is true, then why didn’t Cam project as a Day 1 pick out of Wazzu?

Because the Cam I saw in 2024 would’ve AT LEAST been selected No. 8 overall by the Falcons over Penix Jr. Worse case he’d went before Nix and definitely before JJ McCarthy.

I respect your opinion Lu, it just doesn’t add up imo based on his 2023 draft grade in Wazzu system vs his 2024 draft grade in Miami’s system.
