Some Coaching Names to Watch for 2020

I'll add to this list over the next 12 months but here are some early, more realistic names i'm tracking for next year's coaching cycle if/when Diaz gets canned. I highly doubt we go the coordinator route again so i've excluded them from this list:

Luke Fickell - Cincinatti
Current Salary - $2.3 million

He's likely going to USC if that job opens next year (former Cincy AD is there) but he's 25-12 as HC at Cincinatti and has turned the Bearcats into one of the best Group of 5 teams in America. Spent 15 years at OSU (including one year as interim HC) which will certainly serve him well on the recruiting trail.

Josh Heupel - UCF
Current Salary - $1.7 million

Wouldn't be shocked if he gets the Mizzou job this time around but he's done a really good job at UCF (21-4 in two years) and already knows the South Florida recruiting landscape. Would love to see him bring Randy back as DC, along with Jeff Lebby as OC.

Eli Drinkwitz - App St
Current Salary - $750,000

Probably my personal preference on this list as he's young (36) and has familiarity with the region and of the conference (waS OC at NC St). Just won 11 games in his first year at App State and is from the Gus Malzahn coaching tree, so you know the man is going to be innovative on offense. Have to think he's NC State's first call next year should they fire Doeren.

Bryan Harsin - Boise St.
Current Salary - $1.55 million

Highly doubt he ever leaves Boise (is from there and played there) but definitely someone kicking the tires on assuming he has bigger aspirations.

Bill Clark - UAB
Current Salary - $1 million

Honestly really surprised he hasn't taken a bigger job (in the SEC?) already but he's quietly put together 8, 11 and 9 win seasons in succession at a program that had previously agreed to drop football.

Billy Napier - ULL
Current Salary - $875,000

Coming off a 10 win season at a fairly difficult school to have success at. Was a big time recruiter at Alabama to boot. Might be a bit wet behind the ears but have to think he'd jump if we came calling.

Will Healy - Charlotte
Current Salary - $700,000

This is more of a futures bet, and perhaps an Al Golden-esque hire, but he's just 34 and just took Charlotte to their first ever bowl game in his first season. Go watch YouTube if you want to see the kind of energy he brings to a program.
Missouri isn’t paying Heupel’s 10 million buyout this year. Also people at UCF think if Heupel goes this or next year then Lebby is getting made head coach.

all solid names that a chance to be successful at the next level and my favorite is Bill Clark from this list he made UAB into winning program after football was shut down for a year. Seems to know how to build a program which is something we need badly.
Lol so nooooooow people are coming around to Bill Clark. I’ve been driving the train since last year, but there’s more room for others to hop on board

And when they fail, the BBB crew comes out in full regalia. The BBB will only accept: Leech, Liffin or Davis.

Can we get anyone from that list? And I mean anyone. Close your eyes and pick a name. Idgaf who

Kliff Kingsbury after the Cardinals have another bad season next year.

He’s a college coach. And will be better for his NFL experience, IMO.

Randy back as DC?! Gtfoh!!! Other then that good list my friend. 👍

Randy has evolved a lot since he left.

S+P in the 30-40 range the last several years and just 22-23 points per game. This is remarkable when you consider the pressure their offense puts on the defense with its extremely low t.o.p.

He mixes the coverages, runs a lot of single high and has the SS all over the place. He mixes coverage now. Cover 2 or bust Randy is a different guy.

His alignments are LIGHT YEARS ahead of what our clown brigade is putting out there.

To be honest, his defense is exactly what we should be doing. I think he would stunt less with our line, which is what we need. He liked to play simple when he was here. It just got too simple.

Bringing him in with Heupel, I think we would be pleasantly surprised by his evolution. Gurvan would be a household name in his defense.

They are often in position to make plays but get beat one on one, because well, they are UCF defensive recruits. Otherwise, they are well coached and consistently do many of the fundamental things Manny’s defense sucks at.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love heupal and his offense! But I can’t get on board with randy my friend, to many issues with him and his Awful personality burning time many bridges with the high schools down here. Jmo

App State is looking good today. Eli Drinkwitz will be a name to follow next year for sure.

60+ Power 5 teams and head coaches and we'll HAVE to go the "up and comer" route AGAIN, eh?

Send Eli Drinkleberg to the Gables! We back!
