Rumor SoFL Down Bad...😬

In the 80s there were about five Jeremiah Smith athletes from South Florida every year, now there is one every five years

Not great for the Canes
Luckily, the other four J.Smiths a year reside outside of SoFla which means Miami has a much better chance of landing them than if they resided in the tri-county area.

These demo changes are bad for SoFla high school football in terms of local pride and entertainment, but much better for the future roster construction for the Miami Hurricanes.

#sarcasm

There are students from South Dade-ish and North Palm Beach-ish that attend STA and AH.

It happens.

Those are private schools though. It is similar to the DMV where you have kids playing at private schools in DC and nearby Maryland and Va suburbs who live 30-50 miles away. Sometimes farther into Baltimore, Delaware or nearby Pennsylvania area.

To @gogeta4 's point...it is also happening for public school attendance/athletics particpation as well.

It’s been a sudden drop. From 2010-2020, South Florida was the top region by a mile. Now, it seems most of the top talent is concentrated at the EDGE position.
Not sure its been that huge a drop per se. Other regions of the country experienced 70s/80s SoFL-esque population booms about 20 yrs ago...and voila!

Babies showing out on the grid iron 15 years later. I believe its as much those other areas caught up to SoFL.

SoFL's pop is ~6.5MM today...and expected grow to ~7MM by 2035. A far cry from the logrithmic rise in 70s-80s-90s where it doubled almost every 7 years. Infrastructure constraints and rising costs are a big player here.

Perhaps what was once used against the Canes (e.g. move from home and spread your wings young man) can now be used for the Canes in recruiting (e.g. come to SoFL where the weather is nice and the young ladies are pretty).

I suspect it has already turned into a global hunt for talent. Just ask P and Ks.

The teams that recognize this sea change will stay in front.

It's been happening forever, since desegregation.
Heck, back in my day, when we had a very HML football program, we had kids who lived in Carol City, Norland, American and Hialeah HS districts. Only my poor brother was the sad exception, when he tried to attend HML but was forced to attend American HS. This was common fare with the baseball teams, where alot of the Cubanitos wanted to stick together as they had playing in the same Khoury Leagues since elementary school. Of course, this was before the private schools, save Miami Pace HS, became powerhouses.

Aquinas looks pretty bad so far
Cardinal Mooney has multiple power 4 prospects-They are a really good team that no one talks about-They will probably win a state championship in their class classification which is 2A.

Aquinas QB’s did not perform well-The 3rd string Cody Conness looked better than both of them

If they aren’t to have a chance against Mater Dei
Brady Hart or Mason Mallory better step up.

The ones that flashed were 1 and the back up QB #7. They have two guys OL. 55 and RG 54.

Time for the influential UMiami stakeholders to fix Dade County housing policy and supply, loss of recruiting pipeline population is unacceptable.

God's honest truth...

I wear a LOT of UM polos and shoes...and I am CONSTANTLY getting into conversations with Miami expats who have moved to ATL and want to talk about them Canes.

One dude stopped his car in the middle of a Publix parking lot to talk about Carson Beck. It's just wild how many people from SoFla have moved to ATL.
Literally my entire middle school years my mom and her friends were contemplating moving to Georgia, some of them did, kids in my grade moved there, some family moved there recently as well. Much cheaper up there

Georgia Costs are growing quickly too. Well Coastal areas as well as Atlanta.

So if the plan is to move this way you better be looking more middle GA. Savannah/Pooler/etc is growing so fast and they arent keeping up on schools, roads, etc. They just want more factories and warehouses for the port.

A lot of black families moving from South Florida to Georgia has also been an issue and impact. Big reason why I would argue Georgia probably has the best talent overall.
Travis Hunter is an example. Born in Florida, but moved to Georgia for HS based on his mom and affordablity. He isnt the only one. Demographics and economics have had an impact.

However, S. Florida still has some great talent. Dade still has recruits like Bain coming out every year, but the numbers may not be what they used to be. Central and Northwestern are still stacked. But Broward has surpassed Dade. Dade talent, like Malachi Toney, moved to Broward. Broward has stacked college rosters, including the Canes, throughout college football. There are plenty of examples, and there is enough elite talent and coaching to supply our Canes with what they need. But the numbers are less and Coach Mario needs to recruit Central and NOrth Florida, as well as nationally in order to stay relevant

school choice we have an absurd amount of charter and private schools and parents are going for these. especially in broward where the parents have the finances.

Also after covid some of these parents are like the **** with it and are doing online. Another thing is the.........IMMIGRANTS. Immigrants are a huge population in south florida and it use to be walk right in and sign the kids up to the public schoool systems(believe me i know have had ppl i know do this for years) with these school admins with 80 year old women just pushing the paper and giving them an school id and #. Now with the Don as president and some fears of ICE/DEPORTATION they might have slowed an erollment a bit. These are my thesis for it.
