So i guess you don't follow other programs. Our fan base is mild compared to other fan bases. I don't recall our fans marching up to the AD's house demanding change like Meechigan fans.

I don't recall our fans pulling out a strap and blasting another fan b/c they weren't mad enough like Bama fans.

I don't recall our fans hurling racially insensitive words towards players b/c a kid dropped a ball like UGA fans

I don't recall our fans coming up w/ a racist sing-along like OU fans

We come on a board and air out grievances....might I add warranted grievances. Our players are probably doing more damage than anything going on social media and letting out locker room issues out. That's where the real toxicity is coming from and if a coach can't control his locker room, then that's an even bigger problem.

When the problem is obvious, and the HC stubbornly sticks by what isn’t working, the fans are gonna be angry.

If Al got a real DC, the fans would’ve put their fangs away for a season. If rick gets a real OC, the fanbase will settle down.

Rick absolutely caused it and the fan reaction is completely justified. I didn’t make the post as a plea to ease up on Rick. I made it to point out how short the leash is now because everyone has a voice unlike the old days when the only voices you’d hear were UM shills like Dawn Ballbag Jr.

We've been down this road where segments of the fanbase call out the majority citing that the criticism is unwarranted and is hurting the program more than the actual guys making the wrong decisions making 6-7 figures.

Because those programs don’t have the NC capability that UM does, and they haven’t been through this same exact cycle of coaching ineptitude 4 times in the last 20 years.

Its reality. UM is a superfund site of failed expectations, poor financial support, wavering attendance, rabid fans, and average facilities. The toxicity permeates all facets.

Yeah, there were folks not happy with him....most of them being unstable emotional people who didn't appreciate what Butch inherited at UM, and he did get bannered at least once
But one thing you could say about him is that he wasn't stubbornly ignorant about his staff's shortcomings....yeah, he fed media and fans BS with excuses from time to time, but he did recognize problems and made changes, accordingly...from overhauling the S&C program to bringing in Schiano as DC....one could argue about how great Butch was as HC, but we can all agree that he was proactive in recognizing problems and making changes before things got worse...and not wait to make changes until you're deep in the hotseat....that is what elite coaches do...James Franklin and Brian Kelly are other examples.

Booch waited too long to fire Miller. And the fans loathed Coker. He either would have had to make those changes quicker, or it would have burned around him like it did with Folden and is now with Rick.

No way in **** he would have got away with 5 straight losses to FSU and VT in today’s world or the inexcusable flops against ECU.

Well that’s just not true at all, considering two of those programs have won titles, penn st, Stanford and Oregon have all been a lot closer than us in the last 15 years, and the other schools are **** sec programs that have been through multiple coaching changes some highly publicized and criticized.
 
Most of the toxicity emanates from the fanbase on whatever platform is chosen - be it CIS, Twitter, IG, etc. in the way displeasure is expressed.

Is that displeasure justified? Absolutely. Do fans have a right to express that displeasure? Absolutely.

It's the way in which the displeasure is expressed that is creating the toxicity. Any of us that read the threads/posts on CIS on a daily basis are subjected to constant name calling that would make a sailor blush. Not only calling coaches and players derogatory names, but posters themselves are subjected to verbal attacks and name calling.

Being that social media has become so prominent in most peoples daily lives, you know **** well the coaches, players, recruits, and anyone else who has a stake in the success or failure of the U, reads all the comments - positive or negative - on a frequent basis.

I didn't just fall off the turnup truck. I've heard worse than what I've seen posted on this site.

I don't have a problem with voicing my displeasure with the current state of the program. I just refuse to do it a way that adds fuel to fire and diminishes the image of the "U".

Richt has an overwhelming anount of responsibility in what's happening with this offense, but come on, does anyone out here think experience, lack of depth and at certain positions a lack of talent didn't contribute to what occured this year?

I've been a fan for 35+ years and season ticket holder for 25+. This fan base has always been impossibly impatient and unreasonable. Has it been warranted in some cases? Absolutely. But it's also been ridiculous in others.

I guarantee many of the same fans who called Jimmy a choker after Penn State and hurled insults about Butch's mother and called every name in the book as he went 0-10 against FSU and Virginia Tech now only remember them with reverence.
