Soccer stadium

Here are my questions again:

1. What is our current revenue split from the following:

A. Ticket Sales
B. Concessions
C. Parking

2. What is the buy out for our current lease with Sun Life Stadium?

I don't think anyone on this board has those answers that would need access to the contracts. UM is a private company and isn't required to publish information like a state school would. However under Title IX Miami is require to post revenue and expenses to Dept of Education. This is about all you will find about UM sports program that even if you click on the link you MUST also click on the Revenue and Expenses TAB.

What it shows under "Revenues and Expenses Summary LINE 15" is Miami's Athletic Dept was in red ink for -$2,508,324. In other words we are spending more money than we make in athletic revenue. Donations to the Hurricane Club help cover that short fall. Also, all students pay a small % of their tuition to the Men & Women's Athletic Dept for which they are given tickets that are limited in both football and basketball.

I know that, that is why I don't understand where everyone pulls these numbers for this that and the other.

That link didn't work by the way.

Don't know what to say since the link worked for me. However this is the home link where you just have to type in University of Miami in and hit search.

The only time I have seen the percentage of ticket sales was in the newspaper when the City of Miami was going after UM for back taxes on revenue from the Orange Bowl. That was a long time ago and I don't remember.

This statement was from 2007 "Miami agreed to a 25-year lease and could collect more than $2 million in additional revenue annually by moving to Dolphin Stadium, which will carry a new corporate-sponsored name by 2010." Miami leaving Orange Bowl, will play in Dolphin Stadium

Cane7451,

The link works now.

So we know little about the lease. Expected.

Using the link you attached.

Football (Revenue): $29,986,463

Football (Expenses): $24,672,810

Total (Net Income): $5,313,653.00

Frame of Reference: FSU's football expenses were $23,427,950

The dimensions of field play alter when you change the games.

the field of play has to be about 22 yards wider for soccer. that is 11 yards each sideline or 33 feet for those of you who are math challenged. 33 feet is quite a lot of space but they do play soccer in gilette stadium so it doesn't have to be as far away as dolphin stadium is.

This is what the side line view will look like for football in a MLS stadium. This is football played on Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium

This is just as bad as the side line view at SLS which is the major problem I have with playing at SLS is the gap between the sidelines and the playing field. Forget about getting a lot of fan noise there especially is a smaller stadium that is open on one or both ends.

So? Isn't this a shared facility too? Yeah, they pump in artificial noise but still...

LOL sure Tad be totally dishonest and pretend that is the size & height of the MLS stadium with closed end stadium design and a stadium roof that closes that Beckham is going to build on Dodge Island for $80M. I posted a real MLS stadium that they build for MLS soccer and you try to use a NFL stadium picture just like UM plays in now at SLS.

Look at your picture with the wide gap between the side lines of the playing field and the huge gap to the seats when the seattle seahawks are playing. Thanks for proving my point that the reason SLS sucks is because it was designed and built to accommodate soccer. SLS had to spend millions to rip out sections of seats to shoe horn in baseball. However if the Fins had got that last upgrade money from voters they would have put SLS back in the same configuration and narrowing the gap to SLS original dimensions. Beckham's MLS stadium will have a wide gap between the fans and the football field side lines that are similar to what SLS has now. Why SLS sucks as a football field is because it was designed to accommodate soccer.

I'm being dishonest but you just described this place as "closed end" and with a "stadium roof that closes". Yep, no open-air here. I see none. I'm not saying Beckham's design would replicate this in any way but the crux of your argument based in fact is your obsession with the size of the sidelines. Enjoy your weak sauce and feel free to meet me over at the Architecture School and we'll discuss possible configurations to maximize acoustics. Please feel free to bring the design plans that you're obviously privy to too. I'm beginning to believe that you must live in Palm Beach County somewhere and just don't want to drive as your opposition in the face of no real alternatives is too strident. Just carpool with someone, bro.

Cane7451 and the board,

We now know the football program makes $5 Million + a year after expenses (assuming that is accurate). Does this mean we should settle for this amount? Does this mean that our own stadium or a partnership with Beckham would make less money?

I think that we have an opportunity to improve this number greatly even if we continue with the same attendance numbers.

Obviously if Beckham and co, once they decide on a location and stadium configuration, do extend an offer for UM football to be a tenant, then UM would have to run some projections. Obviously, the size of the stadium would be the second biggest variable after the terms of the lease. I've heard stadium or arena size discussed with other teams, and it always seems to be a delicate balance between meeting possible demand and not devaluing your product with too much supply. Obviously, we aren't building our own stadium, so tailoring it to our own particulars is impossible, but I think the University would stand to make just as much money with a stadium around 45K than they do even with a generous lease at Sun Life.

Personally, I think one of the reasons Beckham is interested in UM football as a tenant is it gives him an excuse to build a bigger, 40K+, stadium that he can then use to hold international matches, when obviously MLS wants smaller, soccer specific stadiums. Plus, of course, having an additional revenue stream from the word jump.

I think a lot of things would have to line up for it to happen, but i'm certainly intrigued about the possibility. I think playing at Sun Life is, very, very bad for UM football, and will only get worse over the remainder of the current lease.

Our admin leads a top 50 university and has raised billions. You?

Naturally, though, when they are trying to do exactly what this board wants them to do (get a new stadium), they still get blasted by the board.

I got my Masters Degree there.

You?

STFU

Master's Degree? LMFAO. Yeah, that's unique.

Donna Shalala raises billions and is one of the most respected leaders in the country. You have your Master's degree. Sounds about the same. Thanks for clearing that up.

Clearly another simpleton ****** who ties the academic's to the athletic's.

Being successful ACADEMICALLY does not in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM tie into the FOOTBALL teams success and how the ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT is HANDLED.

Now go put your helmet back on and let the adults speak.

Furthermore her handling of the medical purchases has been a travesty along with her "fundraising" for athletic's.

Mr. Master's Degree can't even follow a simple thread.

Here's the point: you're ripping an administration that did more last week than you have done in your whole life.

And your continuous misuse of apostrophes proves that academics aren't all that important to you.

Good lord you're a Golden clone aren't you?

Excuses upon excuses with stuff that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Our athletic department.

Like who gives a flying **** what they do with the rest of the university??? I mean really? Does that win football games or put fans in the seats?

Stop typing and per your apostrophes line I could care less when typing from a phone.

You mad? Mr. Master's Degree can't hold a candle to Donna Shalala, and that royally ****es him off.

A new football stadium costs 1 billion dollars with today's construction costs. Giants & Jets new stadium was well over a billion. Who do you think runs the construction unions & contracts. The ******* mob does, don't confuse miami with Baylor dumb asses.

True football made a profit but UM lost money in the end. Miami's Athletic Dept was in red ink for -$2,508,324 since football and basketball pay for the entire men and women athletic budget.

Ticket sales & parking pass sales not attendance is the primary revenue. I find it difficult to believe we can raise ticket prices by selling 33% less tickets and parking than we did in 2013 base of Beckham 40K size stadium to even make the same money we made last year. The more you raise ticket prices the more people that will stop buying tickets and parking passes. With Beckham port of Miami site we will get little to zero parking revenue.

Beckham doesn't care anything about UM and won't spend any of his money building a stadium to accommodate UM's football. Beckham is using UM to get Donna's political help to get that Port of Miami site. The city wants him to take the Marlin Park site to help pay for their stupid investment in the Marlins that included parking garages that aren't making any money. The only reason Beckham is pretending to extend a offer to UM is to help him get the larger site at the Port of Miami. Donna and Blake James know they are being played and I just hope Beckham is donating money to UM for their support. Donna is doing her job of working his MLS cash buddies for donations to UM.

If and when Beckham gets the Port Site he will drop UM as fast as he can since he isn't going to spend his MLS money building a football stadium that would meet UM's needs. Beckham wants to build a hotel and shopping district in the area not spend his money to build a football stadium that is only used 6 days a year. Anyone that thinks a English soccer star is going to give UM a free stadium upgrade is just too gullible to reason with.

Beckham doesn't give a flip about UM beyond using UM and Donna to help him get the Port site for him. He has barley enough money to build his MLS stadium that will be no larger than 25K stadium. Beckham's $80 Million isn't going to build a 40K stadium and even if it would it would be horrible compared to SLS.

If they know the arrangement, then they are playing the game, not being played. I see no negative in building a relationship with David Beckham.

Lulz.

While you are busy reading thoughts and looking into the future, you should try and snag some winning lotto numbers.

Your info and suppositions are so far off its comical.

Last year was the first in many that the athletic dept finished in the red. I suspect a lot of that had to with the Schwartz Center, but I do not know whether that's the case. What I do know is revenues are higher than they've ever been, and UM is spending more on athletics than ever before - especially football.

Beckham does not need Shalala to help at the port site. I know this for 1000% fact. Your conspiracy theory is pure nonsense It's so way, way off ,it's laughable from someone that knows!. P.S. Beckham'sgroup initial renderings are very, very nice
