So that 3 Game win streak last season

I remember being in the stands for those games and saying to my buddy "WTF team are we watching? Why are we blitzing and playing so much press coverage?"

It was beautiful while it lasted.

Im not sold on the changing things excuse, what stood out to me more than changing scheme were the Berrios drop, Stan/Clive fumbles, and the lucky tip to karlos Williams, FSU was a final 4 team, they were coming 2nd half regardless, we just gave them more opportunities to do it

the defense after that game was night and day compared to the defense before and during the game

I'm tellin' ya man...

I seen us playing a much more aggressive defense during the games we're talking about. (not talking about FSU)

What's odd is getting away from what was working. From what the players were saying and how they were responding it was like night and day. Why golden would get away from it is one of the most baffling things about last season. I know why he did it as in its in his nature to turn into a chicken **** when adversity hits, but what a missed opportunity by golden to really change things around.

I really believe he was trying to get fired after that...

Just so y'all know ... Suggesting that Golden had anything to do with how well we played during that 3 game stretch is also suggesting that he could be the right man for the job.

If he could create a game-plan to deliver those results over a multi-game stretch, then it is possible he could also see that success and decide to implement the same tactics more frequently.

What likely happened, IMO ... Is that those 3 teams were not very good. We got out fast, made them pass heavy, and our D was up to the task because they didn't have to worry much about the run game.

On the FSU topic ... They were a notoriously bad 1st half team, unlike the year before, when they dominated early. We were not the only team they struggled against in the 1st half last season.

And regarding Golden, specifically ... He coaches "not to lose", instead of coaching "to win". That's been his style since Day 1 at Miami. Those 3 games we are talking about were perfect storms, and are the exception because of circumstances, not some coaching philosophy change.

Those team folded on their coaching staffs, and our talent advantage made those games look easy.

Pitt, UVA, and South Carolina all came to play the full game ... Our talent advantage didn't matter to them.

Cash and Macho have summed it properly. We absolutely played a much more aggressive defense over that 3.5 game stretch. When golden went to Coley and asked him to slow the offense down for the second half (FSU) it marked the moment that golden felt he'd taken enough risk and reverted back.

After the FSU loss golden likely convinced himself that his shell defense was the best path for the team. Old habits die hard. He lost the entire defense when he came in that 2 gap shell scheme for UVA.

The worst part about all of this (or best part w/r/t clearly seeing who coach pyrite is) was that golden vehemently denied that our defense was different over those 3-4 weeks. Dude looked every single local beat writer in the face and lied thru his teeth in order to protect his failing mindset. It was a great moment for Canes fans. WE learned exactly how pathetic our head coach was at that moment.

We were def. playing differently during that 3 game stretch. Part was scheme, part was who the opponent's were, etc. Even the 1st half of FSU game it just felt different even watching that UM team. I was just stunned watching that product on the field. They were attacking, being physical, batting balls down, blitzing in the right gap. I really think they were turning the corner until 2nd half of FSU game. They just quit after that game so I don't put much stock in the team after that. I think we will get a sense of how the D will be week 3 when Nebraska comes in town.

Guys we are multiple. We didn't change anything during the season.

That's a misleading statement though. It's the play calling and how we attacked the offenses we played which is what different. Saying we are a multiple defense is true. We run even and odd fronts all the time.

Is there any truth to Golden really going to Coley and saying that at halftime? Please don't tell me it is

I think C A G changed the defense then changed it back because it was too much success too fast. He didn't want to see egos inflate prematurely by the players parlaying those results into too much confidence too soon.

Sometimes, a little taste of humble pie served up at just the right time is way more valuable than a win here or there. As they say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I think Cincy's QB was out. VT fumbled three time in a row if I remember. UNC? Don't know. Maybe there were some changes and then when people noticed, Al had to revert back or ADMIT his beloved defense does in fact suck. Al's pride prevents him from admitting being wrong. He would rather lose.

Those 3 teams were bad but just the product of our football team looked better in those 3.5 games. Since Golden has been here, the majority of our wins have still looked sloppy even when we won. We had numerous wins in 2013, but looked awful (Wake Forest comes to mind and there were a couple others) I don't mind losing games, but atleast look like you are prepared

He didn't change the scheme. They still 2 gapped and played zone the difference was the teams they were playing.

Cincy and unc are spread passing teams with no run game. Which means you can 1 gap and blitz more because they are throwing most of the time.

Even VT was running heavy spread formations and they were just horrible on offense.

All three teams o-line wasn't that good which helped out.

And a lot of people complained but the corners was pretty good in coverage last year. The only reciever that gave them trouble was pharoh cooper at usce.

I don't doubt the competition was part of the reason we looked so good. But there was something different with that defense. It doesnt mean golden can turn things around. It just means he can be more aggressive against inferior teams. Against teams equal or better, he'll go right back to his bend don't break ******ry. It's why he reverted to it against fsu. Against UVA the players had already quit on him so it was all over.

I have zero doubt that if he decides to implement an aggressive defense next season he will revert right back to his bend don't break once he's met with adversity.

They came out loose against FSU to. Then the second half golden came out with **** in his adult diapers and proceed to tightin back up like he always does and go back to the bend don't break ****. After the players saw that they gave up on the season.

A 3 game winning streak? Stop the press!

My have the mighty fallen.
