Was that due to the teams we played and how bad they were or did Golden actually change the defense and make it more aggressive? To this day those 3 games stand out completely from Golden's body of work. If he did become more aggressive why did he revert back after seeing the positive results we had?

im referring to the cincy, UNC, VT games

Miamis offense, due to a lack of a power game, hangs on a thread whether it be for the good or the bad..against VT there were 2 Duke Johnson catches that if they were not made, that game would of been a different story, thats how fine of a line Miami walks on these days..Its almost as if every game plays out the same, its just whether the O hits early, if they dont its bye bye...The defensive woes are definitely a part of it, cant remember the last time Miami came out flat on O, and was able to rely on the D to win a game 10-7 or 14-10

Also, turnovers are insurmountable under Golden, so when we play turnover free we usually win, but we're not able to overcome them, the margin for error is tiny.. Point being for the OP, we played flawless football those games , but any minor hiccup may have changed the result

We became more aggressive defensively after the Nebraska game. We were very aggressive against FSU. We regressed against UVa, Pitt, and USC, but never to the point of Nebraska.

I charted several of those games and posted them back when I still had a rivals account. We played a heavier dose of one gap scheme. The blitz packages were something neither of those teams were ready for. Even the first quarter and some into the 2nd qtr against fsu we played a much more aggressive style of football. The thought that came to mind is after fsu Golden was trying to get fired on purpose for the buy out. Totally went into a shell with that reactive 2 gap.

its because......ah f*** it.

I pretty much don't care any more. The administration's incompetence has killed my love for canes football.

That GT was just as bad which is what I think finally lit a fire under their butts.

So golden got nervous after halftime of the fsu game and rather than go for the kill decided to revert back to his prevent defense to eek out a win. Lost the team after that and season collapsed? Sounds about right in terms of what happened.

Good stuff right here. It's why turnovers are so magnified and people blame the players when an INT is thrown or a ball is fumbled. The margin for error is so small that one error tends to be a killer. Happened against Nebraska.

We played a totally different style of football. my eyes were in shock. I was at the UNC and PITT game. it was two totally different teams we look like on the field.

the uf game is the only one that comes to mind but that uf offense was especially bad.

Not only did we shut down UNC, at one point we had like 400 total yards to their 29, or something retarded like that. That was the best three game stretch UM has seen in many years, and it is the reason I was so incredibly ****ed at how we ended the season. We were a darn good team going into FSU, and for the first half of FSU. Then we simply fell apart. We absolutely destroyed VT as well. The same VT that blew past OSU. For the first time in years, it looked like we were improving, in a major way. Golden had better put together more than 3 games like that this year or he's done.
Those teams were just garbage and we were playing the best we could.
I seem to remember shutting down a pretty good UNC offense. I don't know how good they were but even the players were alluding to golden letting them loose.

This is exactly what happened NVA.

yup, that game in neb might have gone differently but the defense was on full ****** mode that game, the offensive play calling lost us a few games last year, defense wasnt stellar by any means but they did put us in position to win games but coley either called a dumb play or there was a turnover

yup, unfortunately for Grohlden, one of the best things about football is how imperfect it is, and how perseverence and overcoming adversity are qualities that champions possess; perfection is not a strategy and definitely not reproducible in football,

I remember being in the stands for those games and saying to my buddy "WTF team are we watching? Why are we blitzing and playing so much press coverage?"

It was beautiful while it lasted.
