So, I thought the Gaytors were going to take a step back, but...

I have no idea if they'll be good this year, but this is an extremely misleading post.

They started playing better football well before their last 4 games. They had the blowout in Texas while missing a ton of starters, but before that they were extremely competitive vs Tenn and UGA away from home, in addition to blowing out some weaker teams.

Also, LSU was good last year. The argument that they weren't is pure cherry picking. Yes they were flawed, but that was a good W.

This is a function of schedule. If they win 9 games they're a playoff lock, while we likely need 11. 7.5 o/u for UF is equivalent to 9.5 for us.

Wipe your chin off.

You are so full of ****. "They started playing better football well before their last 4 games".

WHEN, you ******* bull****ter?

They lost 49-17 to Texas. And NO, you can't use the "missing a ton of starters" excuse. 49-17 is NOT "playing better football" by ANY definition.

They lost 34-20 to Georgia before the Texas blowout. That is NOT "playing better football", particularly when the saving grace of the last 4 games was the DEFENSE. You can't give up 34 points and 49 points in consecutive weeks in November and claim "well, we were playing better football". Those are two horrendous defensive performances.

Before those two losses, their four wins were 4-7 SAMFORD, 2-10 Mississippi State, 4-8 UCF, and 4-8 Kentucky. Is this how you choose to define "playing better football well before their last 4 games"?

This is the bull**** that Gator/Napier apologists try to spin. About how The Gator was already turning its season around before they got lucky for those last 4 wins. The reality is, if Florida LOST the LSU and Ole Miss games, they would have finished 5-7 (I'm giving them the win over 2-10 F$U), missed the bowl game, and fired Slingblade Billy. That's just reality.

Here's more reality. The LSU-Florida game was tied at the beginning of the 4th quarter. The Ole Miss-Florida game was tied at the beginning of the 4th quarter. In neither game was Florida dominating both sides of the ball. The Gators were lucky to score 2 TDs in the 4th against LSU and 1 TD in the 4th against Ole Miss, otherwise they were likely to finish 5-7.

Oh, but "they started playing better football well before their last 4 games". Because they were "competitive" in a couple of games and blew out four absolutely horrific opponents who had a combined 14 wins between those four schools.

Bull. ****.

Lagway is legit. Anytime you have a guy like him at the most important position in the sport you have shot.

On a side note…**** em, I hope they don’t win a game.
He has the POTENTIAL to be legit. He would need to take a MASSIVE jump this year to meet anywhere near the expectations people are putting on him. Add in the fact that he's missed all of spring and like 85% of fall camp and is likely still not 100%, and we should be asking whether he makes it to game 6 this year before getting hurt instead of him being in Heisman talks (not saying you are advocating him for Heisman but that's what some of the analysts have talked about his expectations being).

Facts. Kid had as many picks as TDs against legit comp last season, and hasn’t had any opportunity to practice this offseason. He’s almost certainly not fully healthy and will be limited play wise. If he’s going to be good it won’t be this season.

Tulane didn't have Mensa for the bowl game either lol
That I did not know...

It's hard to piece together how there is hype on this team and especially the OL.

Like two preseason AA? and their DL Preseason AA is a guy who is injured Caleb Banks, correct?

Their depth is razor thin.
The strength of their team last year was the secondary, and some of them are gone.

Its very weird logic\, and that ain't coming from this orange and green glasses hype or I hate the SEC type stuff.

I think SMU is gonna have to be just all point this year for example cause they lose A LOT of defense, so the ACC is gonna be a two man horse race.

They are very similar to ND. If we're able to slow down their running game we should be able to win. Baugh is a very good back.

...I've been reading about the Gates the last couple of days that they are better than I thought they would be this season. I thought they lost a lot and their QB seemed OK, but not special. But, I'm guessing.

For you experts out there, how good will they be this year and how do they line up against us?
They lost their best DB.
Their OL is way overrated.
Lagway is all hype at this point.

I think we beat them by 17 points.

All of this hype is because of 2 games.

LSU and Ole Miss. That's literally it.

The first 7 games of the year they were 4-3, and Napier was about to get fired.

Lagway got hurt against UGA, and they lost. He didn't play against Texas, and they got killed. I'm not saying they compete or win with him, just stating facts. So they're now 4-5, with 3 games left. Panic is at an all-time high.

They win, at home, against LSU, in a game they held the ball for 18:17 to LSU's 41:43. It's one of the most odd games I can remember. But their defense did play pretty well, and they had several explosives on offense. But they beat a 6-3 LSU team. Cool.

The next week Ole Miss comes to town, and the gator wins while getting outgained 464 to 344. But Ole Miss turns the ball over 3 times, including back to back picks to end the game. Here were UiF's 2nd half possessions:

3 and out, punt, Ole Miss muffs it
After the muff, they run 3 plays for 2 total yards, and kick a FG
3 and out, punt
6 plays, punt
TD drive
5 plays, punt
3 and out, punt

In the 2nd half, they ran 27 offensive plays and gained 115 yards. That's pathetic, and they won the game.

Now, a win's a win. If we did the same, we'd be saying we won, who cares about the other stuff? But let's be real. Literally ALL of this hype is because of those 2 games. They were 4-5 through 9 games, including absolute bludgeonings by us, UT, UGA, A&M. They win these two games that they could've easily lost, actually should have lost to Ole Miss, to get to 6-5, then they beat a completely pathetic FSU team and beat TULANE(!) in a bowl game, now they're a Top 10 team? What?

I like Lagway, if he can ever stay healthy, but this **** really has gotten out of control.

I keep seeing people claiming Lagway is so good. I have yet to see it. Lagway is POTENTIAL, he has not done a single thing to show he is more than that. He could be great, he could be a bust.

As with everyone, depends on QB and I don’t mean a health standpoint. Lagway takes another step and we’re 8+ wins. OL is solid, got to get better in pass pro. RB room is VERY good. WR room has top 10 in the country POTENTIAL, but someone has to establish themself as a legit #1 threat.

Defensively….good returning production but still a bit thin for my liking along the DT spot. LB’s should be the best position unit on the whole team and one of the best in the country by seasons end imo. Corner room is solid but lack experience depth, same with the safety room. I think we have the best nickel room in the country, Denson and Gates are unbelievable when healthy.

10-2 ceiling
8-4 floor

Two preseason AA's on their OL.
One in their DL.
If the QB plays well, they will be decent. If he gets banged up with their schedule they will struggle.
Can't overlook how they ended the season last year.
I legitimately don’t care to look this up because I believe they’re a 7-5 club who will lose to us… but who are the AA’s? Slaughter the center is one forsure but the other two? Seems like they are reaching big time with a 2nd o linemen being preseason AA
