So did Richt address the team personally prior to his official announcement?

Per internet rumors. He didn’t retire on his own free will.

He was told to fire his son and give up playcalling. The very reason he came here was to prove UGA wrong and mold his son into an OC.

He just embarrassed himself and proved UGA correct in a huge way.

Good guy but needs time to heal

I'm going on pure speculation but I have to believe that something like this must have happened after the bowl loss. The retirement certainly came from nowhere as Manny would never have taken the Temple job if they knew this was coming. I think hiring such a green offensive staff put waaay too much onus on Richt and when he proved incapable of doing everything himself, he couldn't fire his son or Thomas Brown and would rather just retire and ride off into the sun set.

He quit. He was the emperor who fnally found out he has no clothes. Wisconsin highlighted it.

He knew he had to go, but slunk off to the gallows and didn’t even seem to want to reach out to his team. Weird. Sad. Something very uncomfortable in all that.
My overall takeaway also

Alright, Canes, Mark didn’t do what we needed buy he left is the best way we could have hoped. He is still alum and therefore family. Let’s be nice and just go with, he got us to our first conference title game. This was not an Al Golden.

He could've bought an entire franchise of retirement facilities that people are joking about here with the money he left us off the hook for.

The dude deserves all the criticisms leveled at him over the on-field product last season but to keep piling on or to hold him in any Ill will now is just immature and lazy and undeserved.

Turn your vitriol toward the school IF we ever cite lack of $$$ to compete with staff salaries, etc.

I think he is physically ill. He hasn't looked healthy for a while. Not even joking I've worried about him having early stages of dementia. Logic, self control seems to have changed.

Kids who signed up to play for him? Staff members who signed up to work for him? High school coaches and parents who entrusted kids to him?

I am sure all of those individuals, with the exception of fired staff members, are very happy that their sons and players will no longer have to suffer through yearly "4" game losing streaks

See what I did there? LOL

Maybe he just wanted it NOT to be about him. Let Manny have the spotlight to enjoy his appointment and the time to do what he has to do. He obviously understood that much of his former staff would be let go. None of us know what has gone on behind the scenes. I think CMR handled this whole thing much the way he did many things during his tenure - quietly and the way he wanted to.

@Tad Footeball I am with you - it's time to let it go.

Yes, this whole thing has/ had a weird vibe to it. Richt is by everyone's account a stand up guy. Certainly he was a man of integrity by not going thru the motions for another year at 4 million dollars which , I dare say, most of us woulda done. But to not do a presser, not attend Diaz' conference, etc seems a bit off.

More than a bit off. It’s clear what happened. Sad, too, at a human level. But better for the team. Mark effectively ate a bullet, felt it was the right thing, and now sees himself as in the afterlife. Except suicide don’t get you no afterlife.

Richt has been mysteriously absent since the bowl game. I'm not saying there is something weird going on, I just think it strange he hasn't been seen or made a comment.
**** be at a charity event March 7th at my wife's work

A coach of his stature would normally have a press conference announcing his retirement. Especially when it happens after the season.

I also thought the strangest part was he had not talked to Manny one time even after Manny took the job. They talked on Tuesday or Wednesday before the press conference.

Some strange **** gong on, that's for sure. I am inclined to believe that some of this **** was orchestrated. This whole "scene" is far-fetched, but it's actually being presented as the real. Complete mind ****.

I don't believe Manny's line about "the craziest 24 hours" of his life, lol :nelson-haha::nelson-haha: Who actually believes that ****. Dude is a savage and selling **** to the dopes out there.

And I LOVE IT!

Like manny, I'm just sitting in the cut, ready to watch the whOle situation unfold.

I have faith in the Man(ny). It's just time to execute.

That's how it works when you talk a good game.
