Sure glad we don't have to play them.

They had an undefeated season in 1938 - same year Richt came up with his play book.

Things could get out of hand real fast -

and embarrassing.

Back in the old days of games in the Orange Bowl on Friday nights, they always announced the score of the Slippery Rock game during halftime. How many here are old enough to remember that?

I remember hearing about it, but not experiencing it.
 
It's not Slippery Rock related, but did you know in 1903, Cumberland beat Alabama, LSU, and Tulane in a 5 day stretch? By a combined score of 113-0. They then tied Clemson 11-11 in their bowl. Imagine what WE would do in those 4 games. We'd get a not so slippery rock forced somewhere.

13 years later they ****ed off John Heisman and got spanked 222 to 0. I wonder if Cumberland had Corch Allen slurpers like we have for Richt who called fans fake cumberland fans for calling for Allens firing.

Well yeah. They tied John Heisman's Clemson team to end the 1903 season. Dude musta held a grudge like a Mennonite woman.

He actually was ****ed because Cumberland hired local Minor league Baseball players to play on cumberlands baseball team in their opening game against his GT baseball team in the 1916 baseball season. They ran the score up on him and then tried to disband their football team, but Heisman made them play or they would have to pay cancellation fee. They had to try to pull a team together of basically walkons(they only had 14 kids) and Heismans goal was to run the score up as much as possible. Their coach wasn't even a real coach he was the religion teacher at Cumberland or something and this was the only game he coached ever. They only played 1 game that year. It was against GT.

Yep, I remember hearing that. Just crazy some of the stuff that went on back then.

Back in Western PA we referred to that bastion of academic mediocrity as "Slimy Pebble".
 
in the early 90s, does anyone remember the song that was played on the Orange Bowl PA that got the West End Zone really rockin ?
