SJ

After that Cici class they took a bunch projects and never developed them. It’s tough for people to hear
I’m not willing to go that far. We’ve had several guys leave here on the OL and go start elsewhere.
I’m not even saying SJ is unserviceable. But I think he’s playing out of position and he would be much more of difference maker as a 6th/7th/8th OL option that could eventually be starter his senior year.

Do you think we should run more gap scheme stuff with SJ pulling? Take advantage of his quickness. He had a great lead block on one against Wake. Seems to me like we are calling more gap scheme runs than last year so far.

I think we are going to see diminishing returns against better teams with our outside zone runs, because of what you highlighted here. Rodriguez got shoved into the backfield on an OZ to Pringle in the 4th too.
Agreed with you on more gap runs so far. Looking forward to watching this film as wake is a functional football team.

I think right now we are really struggling on blocking movement. People are just throwing everything at being too small but we are seeing communication breakdowns on stunts and games. Certainly needs to get cleaned up. The bright side is it’s baptism by fire so they’re seeing it now and hopefully executing later into the season. Pass pro has been solid this season.

For a mario/mirabel ol, it’s surprising that they don’t put more of a premium on IOL in terms of fit. You could say only Buchanan is the only one playing a position he should be playing. Is Samson a LT in the pros, or is he more G/RT? McCoy isnt a RT. RR isn’t a center. SJ isn’t a OG. Cantwell isn’t a OG.

Mensah is getting hit a lot more than our QBs got hit the last couple years, so I don’t know if I would say it’s been solid. I think if we didn’t have elite, elite Toney getting instant separation/finding the soft spot in zones the way he does, we might be complaining a bit more about the OL in pass protection too.

I look at Mensah last year and it seems like he has more time than to let routes develop than he does this year. I think that’s also partially why we havent seen Barkate do a whole lot either.

Blaming the wrong guy here. Rodriguez gets ejected which stops the back on his outside zone track. Allows the lb to undercut the play.
i was gonna say do they not see Rodriguez get pushed back to raleigh durham on the play?

sj is in the zone and has to take that zone step on the play ...his lb is already inside him but the play is initially supposed to run off odf sjs butt but cant because rodriguez is out there getting caught n bench pressed in the way of fletcher

I wanted a portal interior guy.....would of taken these two in a heart beat:

Let Indiana go n grab him.

so fla kid.

Both guys could of been ha dbut they didnt want to shake the boat on the ol...i woulde considering who we lost in the portal and to the draft..they chose to go slightly cheaper n developmental more with their portal picks.

Got to ****y on their ability to develop

I can't understand how going up against a guy like Moten in practice everyday hasn't shown the staff that SJ ain't it. I don't see how he holds up if Stanford & Wake's DLs are dominating him like they are. What do they see in him?

Any numbers on pressures/hits you’re referring? Not sure I agree on that just yet.

Let’s not forget he was brought here to play center and he can’t even play that position because he doesn’t know how to snap the ball. I’ve heard for **** near 2 years now he is working on learning how to snap the ball.

We missed on the eval on him out of HS. But what’s even more surprising is evaling him for a year on greentree and not thinking we should hit the portal
Yeah we missed on the eval out of high school, but we keep playing him starter snaps.

The grass is always greener.
You only live once.
Time flies when you’re having fun.
Better late than never.
Actions speak louder than words.
We missed on the eval.

Kill me with this sort of analysis.

How many more guys do you want t hurt as a result of bad OL play?

+ Mali went down on a rushed short throw because the interior lost.
+ Fletcher took a ton of shots in traffic from free runners who the interior OL was chasing to block.
+ Mensah looks to have a lower leg injury on his plant leg which is why he lost his accuracy in one half of play.

Are we going to wait for their inept play to cost Miami a tackle?
Big big worry. Think we misallocated funds in the portal this year. Georgia OT seems like a whiff. Vaughn and Scar WR seem like whiffs (one off the team). The 5/5 rule also royally ****ed us on OL We could have brought back a TON

Injuries are my biggest concerns.

Our OL, LB and Special Teams play are alarmingly bad.

SJ, Buchanan and Ryan (hesitant here) are clear liability’s on the OL. They are going to get Mensah killed. The notion we can run on anyone is not true. This is very concerning against the big boys.

I do not understand the loyalty to Chase. Enough is enough is enough. He’s too big and stiff for a LB. Play the younger guys more.

Dawson’s feel for the game is surprisingly bad. Heatherman’s soft zone coverage ain’t it.

Agreed, and if people are honest with themselves he was just as poor last year, but he fell on a fumble against USF and ran into someone in some other game so he was "great". Chase has been average at best during his time here.

And no need to be hesitant, Rodriguez has struggled this year. He gets pushed back too often and that looks even worse when SJ is also getting pushed back.

Dawson needs to manage how he uses Lofton. Can't have a 5'9 bowling ball of a TE running vertical against CBs.

Pringle dances too much. The kid has speed so work him into space and get him the ball there, but handing it off to him and expecting him to be competent has proven be flawed.

McCoy at OT needs to end. Move him to guard and let Cantwell take RT.

Did SJ get any snaps at center against FAMU? If they don't trust him to get reps at center in a blowout against FAMU, how is he the future center?

I saw buddy crawling around all game. I can"t trust Mario on this one.
