SJ

My gut would be they wanted to maximize his reps at guard?

He was the starting LT all spring when Samson was out so they clearly viewed him as a tackle and also ahead of Wilkerson and whoever else is at tackle
Who was his competition at OT in the spring? (No Hawks, no Pancake) Maybe they wanted to give him a first look there.

And to counter your comment about maximize his reps at OG....they just didnt give him more snaps. He was dine playing, and Meriweather even got snaps at OT.

Idk, weird.
Maybe he picked up an injury or he regressed. I don’t know. It’s odd

If Cantwell isn’t ready at OG, why are ya’ll so adamant about putting him at OT?
Our situation isn’t good, but I promise you Mirabal isn’t just putting these guys out there if he thinks there are better options on the bench.
b/c he's played T his whole life and his strengths are amplified at T (height, length, hand strength) and his weaknesses are amplified at G (Height, lack of quickness, technique).

Year 5 of Mario and Mirabel and SJ is starting at guard. Something went extremely wrong. Can’t even say recruiting because every dude that bounced last offseason are playing at big boy programs.

We ****ed up this offseason gentleman.

3 games in and all of us know that the ceiling of the o line relies on 2 true freshman developing at warp speed
We went from the homer reporting of 8 playable guys to 3.5 real quick.

Brother, you know how it goes with some causals. The bench player is always better. And if that bench player is a 5 star? Ooohhhh buddy. Staff just all of a sudden decided they wont play freshman that give us the best shot to win. Mario does that a lot, just plays the older guy. Right?

And this sarcasm is not meant to say that Cantwell wont eventually become the best option later this season. I hope he does. But the staff has proven to play freshman time and time again if they are ready to contribute. Why would Cantwell be any different?

What championship oline has played 2 true freshman, one 5 star and one social media king kong creation but actual reps on field when not hidden is like 6 third string snaps against stanford and third string snaps against famu..

This past offseason will go in the history books for the amount of propaganda this website pumped.

I believe only 1 true freshman needs to play but your point is still well taken

Mirabal loves to say “mass kicks ***” and then rolls out the 3 smallest guys in the entire room as your starting interior OL when you have literal aliens everywhere else in the room.

I try to just trust them based on the track record but they also tried to force Rodriguez as the starter at LG in 2024 and it took him getting injured for McCoy to get in and not look back.

The problem is that SJ is right next to Ryan Rodriguez. You have two very undersized OL playing next to each other. SJ has skill but right now he's just to **** small. Not going to lie it's a bit worrisome that Jackson Cantwell cannot beat out a Redshirt Freshman SJ. If he can't beat out SJ by the end of the season we might have another Samson situation where he needs 2/3 years of development

Exactly. Perfect example…

He's not even good at thing's he should be good at it. Like if you are undersized you need to be a demon at blocking the next level and pulling. For instance Aaron Brewer is 6'0 like 290 and was an All Pro center. He's not going to overpower you but when he's a beast at stopping stunts and when he's gets to the next level to block bro is moving like a **** RB.

Max Buccanon really isn't that small. He's 6'4 310 and is going to be a good guard for us.

Blaming the wrong guy here. Rodriguez gets ejected which stops the back on his outside zone track. Allows the lb to undercut the play.
Do you think we should run more gap scheme stuff with SJ pulling? Take advantage of his quickness. He had a great lead block on one against Wake. Seems to me like we are calling more gap scheme runs than last year so far.

I think we are going to see diminishing returns against better teams with our outside zone runs, because of what you highlighted here. Rodriguez got shoved into the backfield on an OZ to Pringle in the 4th too.
