of the influx of talent we have coming in. The boys are competing and doing well but the talent level on this team is going to get turned up a notch with these summer enrollees.

RB: 2 good players in Franklin and Brown. At least 1 should play some on short distance downs.
WR: Extreme playmaker in Smith(will find a role somehow this year) and 2 good WR's in George and Brinson(Think both brinson/George RS this season)
TE: I like brantley but he probably RS
OL: BIG BABY is a problem and although he RS's he will be 3x better than what CLark gave us. I like Rodriguez too but he's not big baby level imo.
DL: Leonard Taylor will start this year imo at either SDE or tackle. He's just too good and we don't have any gamewreckers on the DL imo. Ishmael/Haye will RS
LB: I may be in the minority but I really like Tyler Johnson and think he'll have a huge ST role this season.
DB: James Williams has to play point blank period! Get him on the field. Curtis will compete with ST's and hopefully do well.

In this list the most important guys who need to make early contributions are in Bold with Leonard Taylor being the most important and James WIlliams a close second. I think Brashard Smith(although the WR is congested) will need to play because we need as many playmakers as possible and he's an easy shoe in out of the offensive skill talent coming in.

What I’m excited about, and not mention above, is the Baptism by fire our interim and future QB will get against Balalama. invaluable experience!

I don’t know about George, but Brinson gets burn this year, in my opinion. He makes actual plays.

I can't possibly see Taylor starting this year if our depth holds up but he'll definitely earn some rotational snaps. Brinson & Smith will definitely have a chance to see the field this year IMO & I agree with your point regarding James, just find a way to get him involved, blitz packages, 3rd & longs, maybe even the WILL spot if they really wanna get creative.

I still think we need to hit the portal. Normally I wouldn't say that, but this team is so close. We're good at QB, RB, TE, S, and DT. And I think we'll be OK at WR with what we got.

But we're a linebacker, maybe 2 OL, a DE, and... if we're greedy, maybe even another CB away from being playoff good.... good enough to line up toe to toe against Clemson and take the ACC.

I like the talent on this team but some spots might ruin it for us this year if we don't plug the gaps in the roster before fall. I hope we can add a few more pieces and make a run this year.

James Williams will absolutely Redshirt this year, Bubba & Gurvan are starting with Amari as the 3rd rotational Safety, then Avantae Williams, Brian Balom & Keyshawn Washington will get most of the 2nd & 3rd team reps, if JW is playing strictly Safety the most he’ll get is 3rd/4th team reps & ST’s. He’s not gonna play a significant role this year.
He’s not gonna play LB or Striker this year either & even if he did, he would still be a 3rd teamer.

Leonard Taylor only plays if there’s injuries along the DLine, otherwise, the guys ahead of him will eat most of the 1st & 2nd team reps, he’ll play 4 games & shirt just like the rest of the TF’s.

Hope springs eternal & I understand the propensity to think all the new guys are gonna come in & just snatch reps away, but the truth is it’s just not going to happen, Manny not about to have a bunch a young guys on his Defense playing ahead of the upperclassmen.

Idgaf about LB’s in 2016 or whatever other anecdotal instance yall wanna throw out there, the reality will set in come August, the TF’s ain’t playing this year except for Malik Curtis as a PR’er maybe & maybe Chase Smith depending on what they do with Striker, if they keep Keontra Smith at Striker then Chase will be a 3rd teamer too, his only bet to play is if they make Keontra a full time LB, but otherwise they’ll all play sparingly on 3rd team, get 4 games & then Redshirt.

do you feel the Taylor and Williams are not good enough to see the field or that we have quality depth in front of them making it too difficult for them to get on the field?
I ask specifically about them because they are legit 5 stars and even at other high level programs the 5 stars often find a way on to the field beyond special teams, even with good depth in front of them. Or maybe its a combination of factors, but to argue that 5 stars will absolutely redshirt is a very specific position.
Please expound

No, I think they’re going to be very good players, but the staff & Manny in particular doesn’t want to play young guys before he thinks they’re ready unless he has to & I don’t see very many scenarios where either one of them will play because Manny trusts upperclassmen always.

If it were up to me I’d play’em all, but being that it’s up to Manny young guys who are coming in in August aren’t just going to unseat his upperclassmen whether we like it or not, doesn’t matter how good they are or aren’t, they’re not taking reps away from the guys ahead of them because they simply won’t have the opportunity to, that’s not how Manny runs his ship.

I’m not sure L. I think Manny and co are feeling a lil pressure and plan on playing the best guys this year.
I think LT walks in on the 2 deep at minimum. There isn’t a DL on the roster with better hands than him. If he’s really been in the weight room like I assume he’s been I think he’ll be able to hold his own.

James is more of a ?. I’m hoping Manny and TRob find a way to play him like they did Amari his freshman year(special blitzed or something on 3rd down package).

Do you think if Williams and/or Taylor were EE’s it would make a difference?

Preach.
Manny values experience over young talent. Always has. That safety position is stacked. Kam needs to see some reps too. Gonna be alot of surprised fans come the Bama game. Manny aint starting noobs verses the machine.

If Leonard Taylor starts, we are in big trouble. (No disrespect to him..)
Agree.

It's hard to see him being more than a subpackage rush specialist right now, but a potentially elite one at that.
