Simple but alarming stat

I believe coach Mark Richt is wise enough to see the forest from the trees. He knows why Al Golden was fired bc he didn't care if his way didn't work among other things and I'm sure Richt doesn't want majority of the fan base thinking about Al Golden when they think about him.

It's on him to make the necessary changes... I think Mark Richt should adopt how Nick Saban does it. He said he's basically like a Grad Assistant to the DB coach which allows him to sit in and give feedback but still leaves all of the actual work and responsibility on the assistant coach. That would free up Coach Richt to correct bigger issues like Special Teams and the Oline w/ more urgency imo.
He needs to be fired plain and simple, all this what if **** will eventually lead up to thee inevitable. We did all these what ifs with Golden and it didnt matter he sucked. Once u suck u suck thats it

I have been disappointed so long I try not to have expectations to high and don't react to game by game results anymore.
I liked the direction the team was going. More talent, better conditioned athletes, high intensity no off-field antics.
But, you have to believe your eyes when you watch the below average performance of the offense. All you have to do is watch any other game side by side with a UM game and you can't help but notice how bad we play on offense.
My hope is that if Mark Richt doesn't see it, someone with some integrity sits him down and points out the shortcomings on tape.
Miami High Schools play better offense than his team.
I just want a UM team I can be proud of. Win or lose just play good football....please.

I like yards per play. It's a simple, catch-all stat that isolates effectiveness on both sides of the ball. Several analytically inclined coaches (including Manny Diaz) really emphasize this metric.

Here are Al Golden's average yards-per-play rankings at Miami:

Offense- 21
Defense- 71

This made sense, as he often had explosive, big-play offenses (led by guys like Duke and Dorsett) and defenses that couldn't get off the field.

Manny Diaz changed the defense immediately. Our average defensive ranking jumped 62 spots, to 9th.

The offense is a different story. It slipped 23 spots, to 44th. This year, we are 62nd.

The bye comes at a bad time for fans but a good time for the coaches. I don't expect Richt to come back with the 2018 Rams offense. But I'm hoping he adjusts like he did after the four-game losing streak in 2016.

Richt asked to be accountable for the offense when he took the job. There is nothing wrong with the fans giving him what he asked for.

Good thing we sacrifices all those 1st round draft kicks Butch would have found for a offensive and QBs genius.

Also,
we have enough talent on offense to provide a serious attack running and passing.
Perry will eventually get it done with some more experience. He is a better passer and a threat to run whereas Rosier is not a passer.
Why did Rosier wait so long to run the ball after he was inserted, was he gimpy? That's his strength and the defense would have had to adjust.
Until we have an offensive game plan that utilizes our talent to their ability we are going nowhere.
Defenses can't double and triple cover everyone, we have at least 5 eligible receivers on the field, somebody has to be open and if we can complete some passes they won't load the line of scrimmage to stop the run. This is common knowledge which apparently we don't share.
We make opposing defenses look like they are playing with 15 guys on the field.
I look forward to the next game to see if our coaching staff can come to their senses.
I'm completely vented now...Out..

I would tell u how dumb u are but I’m not bc I would get an infraction

They basically just ran it down their throats, which is what I expected us to do. I mentioned on last week's podcast I was worried about this game. But, I thought we'd win because I looked at their opponents' offensive lines and found teams did work against them. Somehow, we couldn't. Almost all those teams would kill to have at least a few of our OL guys and definitely our skill position guys on their squads.

I'm at a loss. We're not worse than those teams from a talent standpoint. I'm with you on the checkdowns, but only worries me more. We either don't teach to check down or don't teach it well. Not sure which would be a scarier problem.

Are you playing Mr. JANUS? And wasn't it you who predicted a Miami beat down to the tune of... Miami 35, Virginia 10.:zczkqmritjdsoaq.jpg: Or was it some other staff member/moderator. Just wondering and what not.

WTF are you talking about? I didn't predict a beatdown? Feel free to link it from wherever and whoever is wrong will take a 7 day ban. In fact, I specifically mentioned the opposite in the podcast before the game. Also feel free to listen. It's on record.

My apologies. However, it was a MODERATOR/STAFF MEMBER, then, who said Miami would " bytch slap " mighty Virginia! So feel free to ban moi!
And another notion. For being university graduates and or post-graduate beings, y'all sure come across as FASCIST CENSORS! And I thought one lived in the land of the free, and the home of the brave and all that.:zczkqmritjdsoaq.jpg:

We know it ain’t happening but we’ve seen this movie before. One side of the ball not performing and we start with these fantasies about hiring new guys. He’s just like Golden he’s stubborn. Only times in his tenure where he wants to make adjustments is after losses multiple ones at that, It’s coaches winning by 40 thinking about how they should’ve got more. He needs to retire, won’t even have to move out the crib. But we want to be great and it’s not happening with him.

You don’t find it at least curious that both of our QBs massively predetermine their decisions based on pre-snap reads? That they both consistently throw very low % throws?

Even when given time by an OL everyone likes to throw under the bus, there are countless quotes to back up that our HC/OC and QB walk into plays ‘thinking something will be there,’ and it colors their decisions. Look at quotes referencing the pick N’Kosi threw in his first game. Look at good throws - the 3rd and 10 to thomas against FSU and the Jordan TD. People say ‘oh, he looked the safety off.’ Nah. He more likely predetermined he’d look away to hold a safety so he could go to his pre-snap read.

Blaming Malik (or young N’Kosi) for being inaccurate or making poor decisions is like blaming an **** for burning after massive diarrhea caused by ingesting uncooked chicken burritos and washing them down with Mexican faucet water.

Couldn't agree more @LuCane and actually said as much below.

We're so fond of all verticles, why not have him run a quick out while in the slot as the outside man runs deep. Its in the playbook. Its how we got down field with Berrios in the game winning drive against FSU last year.

its like richt didn't see what JT can do on that route in the all star game smh

That's all well and good...but why does it take a losing streak or 2 years of bad play calling for him to change?

I'm sorry, but the sample size tells the story here. He was removed as the play caller at Georgia for this very reason. The answer isn't as simple as coaching adjustments during a bye week, the entire scheme needs to be thrown in the garbage.

We need a **** dedicated OC. Period.

I would add that it’s pure speculation that he will make any changes at all

And if he does it won't be until after the season. Should be an interesting couple months. I don't think he's hiring anyone or passing any responsibilities off though. At best some scheme tweaks.
