Why do we keep giving out 5 year contracts for head corches? I would give a 3 year contract with 2 guaranteed and an opt-out clause for year 3. If HC shows potential and promise, we extend them after year 2
 
Stop watching sports, then...especially college sports.

Everything is repetitive. There's only winning and losing, and there is a lot more losing than winning. For every Clemson, there are a dozen South Carolinas. That rinse-repeat cycle is exactly what plays out in almost every school across the country when coaches don't pan out - which is the majority of the time.

This is his dream job.
His cousin posts here and confirmed he wanted it when Richt retired. He supposedly already had the backing of some BOT members and it was all but done. Then Flake interviewed Shanny and caved to his ultimatum that he had to be hired before he got on the plane.
According to his cousin, he won't come now but who knows. He would/would've been better than Shanny.

The only ones that deserve a 5yr contract are established coaches that are proven winners. In the case of Richt, b/c he was contemplating retirement and was unceremoniously ushered out of Athens (and trust me, they don't miss him at all), I would've given a 4yr contract. But newbie head coaches, especially ones you are taking a hella risk on, you gets a 3yr performance contract w/ an option for a 4th.

I'm all for this...it's like rookie NFL players and their first contract. Short-term guaranteed contract with extension years based on performance
