SIAP:. Devin Hester, Frank Gore, Coker in UM HOF c/o '18

Good class. Hester was probably the most exciting thing I have seen this side of ST himself. Glad Coker got in. Not his fault he was not HC material. He got us one and within a rigged ref call of another. Denis could recruit either and left us in a mess and got in. NC's matter here and the old guy has one. What can you say about Gore? Has anyone blow out knees like him and still become legend. What would he had been without those injuries?

Just out of curiosity, what is the process for guys getting inducted at UM? Who nominates and decides?

I have no problem with Coker being inducted.

The guy destroyed what should have been an all time dynasty quicker than anyone thought feasible. He was horrible. Yes he shouldn't have been hired in the first place and more of the blame goes to Shalala and the administration obviously, but that doesn't mean the guy belongs in the HOF.

If there were a way to induct Coker into the UMHOF as an OC, I would consider it. But definitely not as a HC. We are still finding our way out of the abyss that Coker sunk us to. That has to count for something. Is there a UM Hall of Infamy?

Besides, anyone could've coached the 2001 team to a NC. That team was loaded with talent the likes of which this world has never seen (haha I've always wanted to use that phrase; funny thing is it's actually not an exaggeration in this case). The players were hungry after getting stiffed by the BCS in 2000 and they practically coached themselves.

Dude was never a great coach..... But he got us 1 ring.... And got shafted by the worst call of all time to make it back to back.... That deserves something

LOL at Coker being inducted. Winning 1 title after inheriting the most talented roster in the history of the sport and then systematically dismantling it is HOF worthy?

For whatever it's worth, the only reason Coker was HC is because the players demanded it. There were rumblings several players would leave early or transfer depending on who they hired so the admin went with the safe pick and promoted him. He obviously wasn't the best HC or recruiter but he did win a NC and come within a bull**** call of winning a second. Don't really understand the hate. He's not like these guys who angled for a job selling some pipe dream (Al Golden) and was exposed to be a fraud. The players wanted him, he did what I imagine was his best, and, while he wasn't good enough to be our HC, he nearly helped deliver 2 national championships.

Coker being inducted is disgraceful

Your response is disgraceful.

He coached at Miami for 12 years. We won 111 games and had a .760% win percentage.

The reason why he's hated like Erickson is simply because those two had the highest expectations.

Irrelevant. You're throwing out a bunch of baseless (and obviously misleading, as he sure as **** wasn't HC here for 12 years) statistics and putting no context behind those numbers. Coker did immeasurable damage to our program in an almost unthinkable amount of time. He was gifted the most loaded roster in CFB history and had us at 7 wins within the span of 5 seasons. Beyond the obvious on field collapse, he presided over a large portion of the Nevin Shapiro era.

There is no logical argument to honor the man as a member of our Hall of Fame. I contend that Coker was a good man and can acknowledge the fact that he at least handled business in 2001 & 2002 (despite being pushed to the brink and ultimately cheated by a severely outmatched Ohio State team), but ignoring the realities of the damage his tenure had on our program is laughable, misguided, and outright dishonest.

For some reason, you've shown a propensity to carry water for the cast of characters who contributed to the elongated collapse of our program over the last decade plus in your short time here (I've seen you white knight for Shalala, Paul Dee, and now Coker recently). Not sure how any semi-competent individual can make the arguments that these individuals should be honored for their contributions to our Athletic Department, but to each his own.

Our dumb fans continue to pump out this nonsense despite 15+ years of evidence slapping them in the face.

Are you seriously implying that the talent and player experience level in 2001 equals the talent and experience level that we have had at The U tor 15+ years?!?!?!

So how the team performs during ones tenure is irrelevant to the HOF?

Sure, guy.

Like what?

People like you were whining about 9-3 seasons being the worst......and that's when it got worse.

We were only truly bad when Coker bowed to the pressure and fired almost all of his assistants. Only then did 7-6, 5-7, etc. happen.
