SIAP: Beckham Stadium Update

The fact that they're going 30k seats really just rubs it in our poorly represented faces. Watch capacity be even higher than that if needed too. All this shows is that MLS was willing to go higher than that fake 20-25k standard and we were just too inept to make this happen....once again. I hope these clowns enjoy 25k empty seats on Sat for a matchup against a top 10 team while the precious Coastal is still technically in play. Ohhhh, that won't matter though when they announce attendance at 60k.

One of the most historic, if not most historic, football sites in the country, and now boys play with sticks and balls to be joined by girly boys in shorts running around being drama queens. May Joe Robbie, all Miami politicians, Donna the whale, the BOT, and The Orange Bowl Game Committee all rot in that place nobody wants to go. This entire thing is a crime. Heck, if I owned the NY Jets I would have wanted to buy the OB to keep the site of their ONLY Super Bowl victory.

Soccer is a very physical game. You're full of ****.

I am sure that is true, but have you ever been picked up off your feet and planted into the ground by a 300 lbs soccer player? Come on, girls play it, and not dressed in Victoria Secret clothing. Basketball is physical too. But in both cases we are talking tons of running with some pushing, shoving and occasional tripping. Are there high level skills required, sure. Old school book reading is physical too -- all that page turning. Okay, I am being a smart ***, but get real. There is more contact in the celebration after a TD in football than a whole game of soccer. Base ball is physical too but the collisions are not the actually object of the game, they are incidental. like soccer. Nobody talks about banning soccer, basketball, or baseball because they are too violent. Now maybe Irish Hurling and we could talk. That looks nasty.

My boys play both sports. Three things. First, soccer players run on average about 10-12 km per game. No one in football comes close to that. They also sprint quite a bit and are every bit as fast as football players. Second, they make sliding tackles trying to take the ball away, and many times that means someone taking out your knees (directly). Third, getting kicked in a soccer game causes serious damage.

The brain damage thing is all football. Now, that is just straight stupidity to feel happy about someone trying to take someone's head off.

Keep the late Joe Robbie out of this. The man begged and pleaded with the City of Miami back in the early 80's to upgrade the 50 year old stadium then and all laughed in his face! Furthermore, Robbie could've easily bolted SFL but he chose to stay a build Robbie Stadium all directly from his pockets.

Also, UM is highly culpable in all this. They strong armed the city with their demands and wanted to put very little to no money in the refurbishing of the OB.

You're right. This could easily be a partnership between Beckham and UM. But again, UM is showing their true colors which is not Orange and green with a 100 yard field and green grass!

UM shows more and more they don't care much about football. All the history just being washed away...Sad!

Cincinnati is starting a new soccer team, FC Cincinnati. That team will play in Nippert Stadium ... Where the UC Bearcats play football. That's a 40K seat stadium. The goal of FC Cincinnati is to be a MLS franchise ...

My point of that:

I really don't understand why they can't just build a 40K seat stadium for this soccer team, and UM contribute the cost for the additional 10K seats.

Adding that cost to a buyout amount from the Sun-Life lease would still be below the cost to acquire a new site and build their own from scratch. And the Sun-Life buyout could be reduced by playing 1-2 games there every season ...

Can someone with real knowledge on the topic explain this to me?

Seriously, is combining the incremental cost to increase the seating by 10K with the lease buyout more expensive than continuing the lease?

And as I understand it, UM doesn't make money at Sun-Life, so they could continue that arrangement for the initial years at the new venue through the existing lease expiration with Sun-Life, and then share in revenue when that's over.

Assuming my understanding is accurate, they have a smaller home stadium, no increased expenses, and eventually get to a revenue sharing point. Plus, still keep access to Sun-Life for certain games.

Anybody with real insight care to share why this can't be done, or what I'm missing?

We already got a "new" stadium. I for one am not in favor of UM having to shell out a penny more after they already haphazardly threw hundreds of millions into Sun Life. Even that money could have been directed at more appropriate avenues. I hear there is a failing hospital in Homestead that we could have taken over. It's all about the U....Health!
You heard wrong

"Donna in Heel country" will be here soon to vehemently contradict this post.

Even the back drop during post game interviews has "UHealth" on it

Every other school just has their team's logo

Our school's commercial during televised games is no longer even about the Unviersity itself...it's a UHealth commercial

UM is trying to force UHealth down everyone's throat...it's all these Shalala buttf*cks care about

Hooray, we are the Johns Hopkins of the South!

So Miami has a chance to play in a stadium that has a college atmosphere, that they are not building and will not have to spend much money for. Honestly I don't think Miami had any intentions on moving to Beckham's stadium anyway it was all just a dog and pony show, evident by the lease they signed with No Life Stadium until 2025. O well this is what Miami Football has become I guess.

First please check you references because until recently, the topic of concussions in soccer have historically received more attention than football.

Second, this is the US, stop with the metric system BS. how far is that in miles?

Yeah this clown knows nothing. I played a game Monday collided with a guy much bigger than me 50/50 ball. He is doing surgery on his collarbone tomorrow

I always laugh when the 3rd world guys bust out their soccer is a tough guy sport routine.

These dopes actually think soccer is some gladiator game played by guys who are 150 pds. I see soccer players walking up and down the field all the time on tv. It's a joke when you are trying to compare athletes from football to those of soccer. Football players can play soccer, soccer players can't play football.

Add 10,000 seats. That is all we'll need. I think for most of our games, even 35,000 would be sufficient. It might actually create some artificial demand for game day since tickets would be harder to come by.

That's as dumb as it comes. That's around 20k ticket sales revenue from this last game that wouldn't be sold with a 35k stadium. Look at the yearly ticket sale averages, you'd lose out on all of that too. This is when we suck, get good and those numbers increase.

Smaller stadium equals less revenue from luxury seating and boxes. So we play our big games at our current address, financially that doesn't make sense for either party (MLS or Phins) to allow that. If we're putting money in with MLS, even dumber.

This is a pipedream. MLS doesn't want anywhere close to the 50 to 55k minimum we'd need. People can try and point to corruption in Miami-Dade or our inept leaders, but this is a bad match all around. Only a dummy wouldn't see that and all parties are a mile apart.

When will we ever realize to NEVER believe anything this admin says. I don't doubt for one second, and I don't care what Canesinheelcountry say, that the option of having a stadium w/ Beckham and his group was not a viable option from THEIR standpoint. Who wouldn't won't to cut expenses?

And as far the buyout and Ross playing "hard ball w/ us".... just read

Stephen Ross Rakes in ‘More Than $4 Million Annually’ for Canes Football at Sun Life « CBS Miami

Miami Admin is full of lazy con-men, period.

Don't give up hope quite yet.

With the direction this program is headed, in 10 years, 30k seats might be considered a surplus.
