There is a fine line between "goofy gadget" and "creatively schemed". I think we have been straddling that line for the recent weeks. Been some good and some bad but willing to go with it as long as they are not dangerous. It helps to have a legit passer in Toney because a lot of the danger in those kinds of plays come from asking some random guy make a decision and a throw.

What I find weird is the timing. Why the **** are we doing that in garbage time? It makes no sense and just burns it for use at any other time. Unless there is a variation to it that you are trying to bait a defense into biting on after putting on film

Offense over the last 20 YEARS to put things in perspective because most of you have none:

2005: Points/G: 27.1 (55th of 119) - Dan Werner
2006: Points/G: 19.6 (87th of 119) - Rich Olson
2007: Points/G: 20.6 (102nd of 120) - Patrick Nix

2024: Points/G: 43.9 (1st of 134) - Shannon Dawson
2025: Points/G: 32.9 (36th of 136) - Shannon Dawson

This is arguably a top 5 offense we've had in the last 20 years

Is Dawson the best offensive coordinator in the country? No. He's solid and shows a willingness to adapt. How different would this offense look if we inserted Pringle earlier? He's what we hoped Lyle to be, but due to injury or whatever he failed to live up to those expectations.

You're wasting your time brother.

Dawson is this year's scapegoat, therefore facts, stats, film, etc. doesn't matter to the penaut gallery. They've determined that he is at fault & that's all there is to it.

Next year, it'll be Heatherman.
The year after that, it'll be whoever the next OC is.

But one thing's for sure, 2 things for certain, it will never ever be the players or our Holy Patron Saint Cristobal. Never.

The willingness to adapt came when the season was put in jeopardy. All it seemed to take was to lose 2 games and Gary Ferman getting under their skin.

We’ve adapted and seen some nice results. Doing hings that many were saying. Most nobody was crying about running the ball, just the dogmatic manner in which we were trying to run the ball. We have been trying to get to the edge recently. That wasn’t in the game plan until after UL. We now have motion that doesn’t result in our WR or TE becoming a part of the rugby fray. Misdirection.

Sorry, not joining this parade today. Took him 10 games to stop running the ball up our centers butt.
He is the OC, tired of the excuses.
He doesn’t make any adjustments during the game, not even convinced he looks at opposing defenses on film.
Very poor at designing plays based on his personal.
Now all of a sudden he’s running a few HS trick plays at the end of the season he’s great?
Go rewatch his version of the flea flicker, that was painful to watch.

You mean the one from the semenhole game?

Cool but probably too late. The fact that he was still running caveman vs SMU blows my mind. Marty and Lyle missed holes but not tailoring the running game for their strengths is the reason why we're gonna miss the playoffs.
So great, thank you for diversifying vs Cuse and NCst.
Meanwhile Brohm changes his entire offense vs us and beats us with shallow crossers.

Not saying I agree with this logic, but best guess is that it's because of the trick play goes awry the consequences don't matter. You still get the benefit of slowing the defense down when you run your regular offense out of the same sets in the future in non garbage time. I assume he still has 2pt plays/more trick plays in his bag he hasn't shown if we really need to use them.

Well, he has expanded from two playsets (Inside runs, wr screens) to three (inside runs, wr screens and wild ***, trick, double-end around throw backs to hit a guard on a deep post) so maybe there is hope of a nice and normal, balanced, somewhat creative and adaptive offense.
