Shemar Stewart

He's screwed after his rookie deal is up.

No team is going to give him a market value 2nd contract, just because they know he's going to be advised to hold out.

Unless he plays at an All-Pro level in his first 4 years, he'll be playing for low ball figures for the majority of his career.
I have never been high on Stewart and I agree he has high likelihood of being out of the NFL before he gets a second contract. I don't think he is wrong in this scenario.

No other team is trying to ***** their rookies over with clauses trying to void the GTD money, its just the bengals being broke as always.
That's not going to matter when it's time for him to negotiate his 2nd contract.

The league will absolutely use this against him as a means to drive down his asking price.

Right & wrong are insignificant in the eyes of NFL Front Office personnel.

All they need is a reason to not pay you market value & when you hold out, even if you're 100% correct, it doesn't matter. That's all they need.

No league colludes like the NFL does, trust & believe, when it's time for him to negotiate his 2nd contract, he's not going to get a fair deal.

I disagree there. The other 31 teams aren't going to hold it against him or his agent for something they themselves dont put into their own contracts.

The 2nd part is way to early to even worry about him getting a 2nd contact 4 years from now.

I dont disagree with anything you said. They have settled on too many occasions for their to be any lies in your statement. I was stating my opinion on his current decision. If he can play frfr this moment in time will never get discussed again. If not, then he has put a target on his back.

Yeah they will, they literally do it every year with players who actually far exceed their contracts all the time.

The league rarely ever pays fair market value. The overwhelming majority of players in the league are not playing on contracts that equal in value to their production output. QB's are really the only ones getting paid in guaranteed money that is equivalent to their production.

For a DL to get paid, he has to put up Myles Garrett type of numbers over a 4+ year period. Shemar is not going to do anything close to that. So, in what scenario does Shemar get a really good guaranteed money deal on contract #2?

Like I said, unless Shemar plays like an All-Pro for the next 4 years, there's literally no circumstances where his 2nd contract is going to be anywhere close to market value.

I'm willing to guarantee right now, that he will not even be in the top 10 paid DE's 4 years from now.

I’ve said in other threads he’s probably going to end up being similar to but not as good as Rousseau is for the Bills. 5-8 sacks a year with good to great run defense. We are both on the same page about him never going to be top 10 paid DEs. The league doesn’t pay up for good run supporting DEs.

He’s holding out due to the Bengals trying to be cheap and put in clauses to void GTD money that no other franchise is doing.
They have been doing **** like this for decades with their rookies and even signing guys to extension.

The question begs, what is Cincy trying to do that is new? Shemar is openly asking for standardized contract verbiage.

It's as if they didn't really want to draft him and are scared of his guaranteed dollar slot.

Can you really blame Shemar?

Nope GMs are stupid especially NFL and definitely NBA GMs.

If he plays decent especially in his contract year some dumbass will bid against themselves thinking he’ll do well in our “culture.”

Dumbass dolphins extended Tua last year even though he was under contract 24, 25, and you could franchise him for 26.

Nets gave Ben Simmons a max deal. Even Albert Haynesworth was appalled.

The Bengals were dumb enough to draft him in the first round, so it shouldn't be a surprise they're handling it this way.

NFL landscape is littered with fired GM's and coaches who believed a player's lack of effort and/or production could be corrected if only he had been under their guidance

According to other people closer to this, he's not trying to get the injury protection placed into the contract. NFL rookie deals are all the same and the money is slotted.

An example is Roquan held out from Chicago because of the wording pertaining to Chicago being able to hold money back if he were suspended for an illegal hit.

He's trying to change the wording of it to suit Moe, I mean Shemar.

I have no inside information here at all but somehow some way this is Moe's doing
