Yes I believe shaq should stay regardless who the coach is because at the end of the day you commit to a school not a coach always. The U is much bigger than any coach.

Honestly to a certain point... I agree with FinCane... you can't let any recruit hinder or rush your decision but at the same time you should want to afford the new hire the best opportunity to succeed.. The earlier you hire the new coach the better are his chances to succeed. A coach is very important... but a lot of his wins are going to happen on National Signing Day... If Saban was coaching BCU they would not beat UM.. that comparison was extreme and exaggerated... but it embellishes my point.

U of M waited because they probably knew Haughbaugh wanted in. Unless we get some unofficial confirmation from Chip Kelly or his reps that he wants in, we cannot wait until Dec 29th. That is insane. I know there is a crowd of people that dont really care about recruits but this class has the potential to be extremely dynamic and we cannot afford to drop the ball waiting for a guy who as of today is still a pipe dream at best. is it me, or I just don't see the rush of hiring a guy before the dead period. if anything it hampers the next coach who may be stuck with the previous guy's recruits and talent assessments.

The recruits now committed (and in "wait and see mode") or the guys who currently decommitted and will wait to see who the new coach will probably be back anyways with the hiring of a Butch, or other "big name" guy. These guys have already been recruited and don't need to be sold again on the value of a UM education, etc.

I think the situation more hampers the new HC and his ability to go after the guys HE may want, not the guys that are already in the fold and are just in limbo.

All the names that's swirling around the board now have something to bring to the table that will bring UM back to football relevance...Some more than others. I think whom ever is hired will come in with an urgency to right the ship... they will have all eyes on them... From my short time on this forum...I know that everyone here will not be happy with the choice... but to answer your question I would have to go Butch because he is the one I'm most familiar with... and I've seen his work... It will be a very long shot for him to repeat his performance, but again you know he is capable of doing it. Chip Kelly would definitely be a bolt of electricity that could resurrect the program and Herman is new blood that looking to make a name for himself... I would have to go 1. Butch 2. Kelly 3.Herman ... I'm not too familiar with Mario and from what I hear recruiting is his strong point... but I feel you don't need to be a very good recruiter at Bama... so he didn't make my top 3

There's no way they wait that long unless an NFL HC/Coordinator has signed an agreement to take over the reigns after the NFL season ends.

We have Butch ready and willing, yet we're gonna mess this up AGAIN. Announce Butch, keep the current commits and gain a few more studs, watch Butch's staff develop these kids into stars.

Too many people trying to complicate matters, when the solution is so clear and simple.

I don't care if we wait until after signing day if we have to although we know that won't happen. Getting the right guy, that's more important than any recruit or group of recruits.

Half of the people here in panic mode talk about how Butch lost 30 plus recruits to the NCAA. While that wasn't all in one season, it was basically an entire class lost. So consider me unconcerned although you want the new guy as early as possible.

Please, clear and simple. What's been clear is that we haven't played up to our recruiting which has been up there with Clemson's and just below FSU's. We've lost games to people who don't recruit anywhere near our level under the last three coaches.

So save me the we need to hire Butch (mediocre coach at best) to save the recruiting class crap. We need a coach who can mold what we have now into a cohesive unit that can win games, put us back on the map, and bring some excitement back to the program. As all of this happena they'll addd in their recruits and perhaps we're playing for the NC a few years down the road.
