Season 4 of the Golden Era...

Freshman QB is not an excuse in this day and age when young QBs are excelling at every level. I fully expect a 10 win season, a coastal title, and a bowl win. Al did such a good job improving the talent under the circumstances that there isn't a reason to wait for success, we should win now. Year 4 is where Al makes his magic happen, make it happen this year.

Expecting a true freshman to win 10+ games is absurd at this point.

Even as a "slurper", I disagree. If Kaaya cannot win 10 games right now, then he shouldn't be playing. Golden brought in a 5th year senior, he has another one who should be ready in the next couple of weeks, and a highly touted redshirt freshman. We shouldn't be looking at the QB position as a reason to fail this year.

This win are go home!!! 10 plus this year with the true freshman!!!

Already getting hit with the freshman QB excuse and we aint even played a game.

It's funny...but expected. I was calling for this to be the new battle cry for the Don Bailey Jr Jr's the second Williams (who in no way is a superstar either) went down.

The cloud will get brought up again at some point as well, give it some time to marinate.

Neither of you are very good at reading. It's funny.... But expected.

You said expecting a freshman QB to win 10 games is absurd.

The only thing absurd here is your football IQ and short term memory. We play in the ACC, not the SEC, there's absolutely, positively nothing absurd about expecting to have success with a freshman QB in today's day and age. This is even more true when you look at the talent surrounding him.

Want to make the freshman QB thing a non issue? How about a competent (not even great mind you) defensive effort from Onfrio's unit? If that D shows any improvement at all we it doesn't matter who lines up under center.

I start grading Golden tonight. D'no needs to deliver serious improvement this year.

I expect a fast start to the season with a fall off if injuries to the LB corps take their toll.

To me the season needs to boil down to this. Beat the teams we should beat. Don't get blown out by the teams we shouldn't. Don't let BAD offences get 500+ yards. We do those things and we should see 9-3 at worst. Do those things and it's a major improvement from last year. What I don't want to see is 9-3 or 8-4 with a few blowout losses, and a loss to a team we should have beaten. Improvement means more than simply numbers and rankings. It means no more losses to mediocre teams. No more blowout losses. No more letting VT, who couldn't move the ball against a stiff wind last year, run over us.

Of all the teams on our schedule, only FSU has more highly ranked talent stacked on their team.

Talent wise, we should beat everyone but FSU, and even then, a determined team and good game plan could beat FSU.

So all these predictions of 9-3 and 8-4 are indicative of a problem beyond talent.

So if it's not going to be talent - what does that leave?

our talent is 9-3 - 10-2 not 11-1- 12-0 like some people think it is. We can't afford to lose Duke this year or to Duke. If we go 2-2 vs FSU and our 3 tough road games we should finish 10-2 barring a ton of injuries.

Fans have the luxury of short memories. It's easy to forget about the three years of sanctions. But the reality is those three years under sanctions did affect recruiting, which in turn directly effects the quality and depth of talent currently on the field. The Shapiro mess wasn't Golden's fault. Bit he didn't bolt, instead stayed at UM to fight through it and work towards building something special. Now here we are, sanctions have not even been lifted one year and UM fans are basically laying down an ultimatum to Golden to win 10 games or else.

Fans have that luxury. But IMO judging Golden in year 4 after 3 years of sanctions isn't fair. Now, if it were year 4 with no sanctions, I would be the leader of the band saying win or go. But that's not the case. For anyone who's tried to compete in business with one hand tied, you can relate. Of course, if you haven't then you probably can't.

Net-net, Golden deserves everyone's support this year. As long as the Cane football program keeps trending in the right direction, he has mine.

I'll actually agree with you on this. I'm also expecting a win at Va Tech, but won't be calling for their heads if they lose. 11 wins and an elite bowl, or 10 wins plus a bowl win would make me happy.

No it isn't.

This and next season will tell us everything we need to know about golden. They built temple and had s good D there, I think they can do that here too.

***** next season. I'm down to measuring him by half-season. This team has ton of talent. Should be undefeated when the feather people show up. I expect to win now. If al has not fixed the defense by now, he just has to go.

I'm not sure that we have "10 - 12 win talent" in our LBs (Perryman aside), DTs, or our OL. Even when our OL was supposed to be a strength it underperformed against the tougher teams. Most of our talent is in the secondary, skilled positions, and DEs.

What three years of sanctions?

This would be our first year of losing scholarships.

Anyone else gets hired for a job, they get measured from day one.
