I agree, he can’t lead us to title. That will have to be our defense, like it always did, and a running game which scores from distance and same for passing. Oh, some one needs to go on a search mission on campus and find out were the **** our special teams are being held in prison. Defense needs to score more too. What Rosier did prove was he could drive that one score in the crunch at the end. He is not coming back from 20 down with a blizzard of brillant passes., but he got that one or two in him that can matter so much.

I think we will have monster run game this year. Deejay and Homer are going to be a nightmare for other teams. If the two new TEs can blow up, whoever is at QB will have lot more help that last year. I hope all four QBs are neck and neck. I am tired of only having one QB and it not being Steve Walsh.

Armchairing your post here a bit, but why leave our Weldon when you could’ve included “7 good eyes”?
 
And Kosar won a championship as a RS frosh, was over 60% completion in his last 2 years, played in the NFL for a long time, etc.

No comparison between the two for anyone who has seen both QBs play.

With poor QB play you will see fewer and fewer running lanes. The D alone will not win us a title, but poor QB play sure as heck can cost us one. It certainly cost us a shot at the playoffs last year.

Then you should also ask yourself why no one else hired Dorsey? There are two reasons Dorsey is not coaching QB's anywhere, he wanted out of coaching, his resume was not deep enough for anyone to make an offer.

Rosier's shortcomings as a QB aside, that comment is what turned the tide for me. Last season, he was clearly the weak link, but we were winning under him. Once we lost to Pitt in the manner that we did, where he was the catalyst, that should've been it.

Are we literally having a long-running thread debating on if Rosier's a decent QB and that can lead us to the playoffs? Please tell me there aren't people that are that dense. I'd rather ride out with one of the younger guys and go with the growing pains. With Malik, you have what you have - someone who's complacent that has no place doing so.

Sorry bro, but you're just plain wrong. Sports Reference gives Bernie credit for 12 games in 1984. In those 12 games:
3642 yards passing with 25 TD's, and -230 rushing for 4 TD's. A grand total of 3,412 yards and 29 TD's.
Bernie Kosar 1984
Malik played in 13 games.
3120 yards passing with 26 TD's, and 468 rushing for 5 Td's. He also caught 1 pass for 17 yards. Total: 3,605 yards and 31 TD's.
Malik Rosier 2017
Statistically speaking, Malik Rosier had the most prolific season in terms of yards and TD's of any QB in UM history. But statistics only tell part of the story. What Rosier will be most remembered for in 2017 is missed opportunities, so I get why it bothers you to see Malik's name next to Bernie's in this conversation. But perhaps it's time to re-evaluate yourselves and stop trying to tear down one player to make your point. My point has never been that Mallik is great or even good, or to compare him to Kosar. I put those numbers up there for context to show that Malik was not terrible all the time. It is impossible for a D1 QB to put up those numbers while being absolutely horrible all the time. It's okay. It is possible, you know, to say we need better QB play in order to build on last season without tearing down a player who contributed massively to the success we had last year. You don't have to go all fool like some of the others and just shrug off 3600 yards and 31 TD's as some anomaly that is so easy to replicate that any old Freshmans we plug in should be able to duplicate with ease.

And I also understand that there is a huge difference between Dorsey's 56% and Malik's 54%, and that difference is that Dorsey wasn't very apt to go out and put a 40% performance. But you can't say that Rosier was terrible all the time by just pointing out the 40%s. If he averaged 54%, and he had some times when he was 40%, then he also had times when he was over 54%. That's how averages work.

People who say “I just want to go with one of the young guys and see what happens” make me feel the same. A lot of tough talk in April when you can delude yourself into thinking they’ll improve as the season goes along as if it isn’t more likely that going with unproven young guys means you’ll be rotating through them and eventually be playing Rosier anyway.

I don't think anyone is saying that, but this seems to be what everyone is trying to argue against.

You cannot possibly say with any degree of certainty that had we played another QB last season that anyone on our roster would have put up over 3,600 yards and 31 TD's. You can't say that because it's never happened. Ever.

I just do not see the problem for accepting last season for what it was, realizing where improvements must be made for us to take the next step, and doing it without trashing a player. The best QB will start vs. LSU in September. Who cares what name is on the back of his jersey as long as he's the best we have?

That or hindsight. When we were winning, when we beat FSU, none of these people were on the Bench Rosier and give Perry a chance to go through "his growing pains," bandwagon. Any person who's had to endure the 15 years of mediocrity and can sit and say that they'd trade 10-3 last season for whatever result so long as Perry got through his "growing pains" is a fool and it becomes more evident each day Jarron Williams closes the gap on the QB2 spot. You would have risked last season for a guy who may not even be qualified to be Malik's backup.
