SCRIMMAGE 2

i'll say this for malik: he was a developmental QB handpicked by james coley, who has as good a track record with QBs as any coach in the country. it's possible that he's reaching the potential that coley saw in him in high school.

and if you go back and watch that duke game, he made a lot of really good throws. the inaccuracy on intermediate throws is there even in some of the completions, but he showed the ability to make difficult and accurate throws down the sidelines, both deep and on out breaking routes, and under pressure. you can see the gameplan with malik in that game -- screen passes to the WRs (we were a really good screen team last year), throws out on the sidelines and down the field, and if you're able to lean on your run game some you can hit some play action over the middle. (and he didn't really run the ball himself in that game which we know will be in the offense.)

i wanted n'kosi to the win the job and still would like to see him take over at some point, but between malik and evan, malik has an encouraging track record both as a prospect and in game action if you want to see it.

On the Shirreffs discussion.. most of his highlights look to be clean pocket/no blitz and locks on one receiver (HS film, but still worth noting). Rainbows all day:

Richt needs to do 1s vs 1s to really see what we have on offense. Going against the 2nd team is definetly a drop off.

That's what Bethune Cookman and Arkansas State are for. No sense in pounding your first units against each other.

Lots of dummies on here clown his one start because " it was Duke ". Like they're Famu or Fiu.

Fact of the matter dude made like 4-5 big time throws. Dropped a dime to Waters , a deep comeback to coley ,corner route to waters ,a beautiful back shoulder fade to Waters or Scott. The first throw was also beautiful , rolled the pocket and threw a deep comeback across his body.....from his own end zone.

He has great arm talent ( not so great mechanics ) and a pretty good athlete. IMO he's a gamer , he'll never look **** in a 7 on 7 setting or in shorts but will just keep moving the chains.

With this defense and skill guys he's the safest pick. Even though I think him and Evan are pretty **** even. We could win with either of them.

Malik has one game under his belt and it just so happens it's more memorable than any win Bard Kaayak brought us. Football is weird.

Back in the day, back when I remember sitting on the sideline of Greentree when fans were allowed to watch full practices, the D usually dominated. I remember the coaches having to sit Warren Sapp because the offense couldn't get a play off and he just laughed. I just hope our D is that good again. Not too worried.

I trust CMR's judgement and support whoever he thinks gives us the best chance to win. But contrary to what many people think in this thread, Evan is more athletic than Malik

Can you elaborate Austin?

I've heard Richt say in multiple interviews Evan is the most athletic qb

By no means is this a knock on Malik because he is a good athlete himself. I'd say Malik throws better on the run, but as far as getting yards with their legs, Evan was better my whole time at UM

I do not want Evan vs FSU

Agree about Rosier and throwing on the run. As for as being an athlete , Rosier doesn't look as fast as his 40, he looks slower than 4.6.

I wanted Perry to start at the beginning of the competition. But Rosier's stepped up. Put Rosier as the starter and let Perry RS.

The RPO might actually be an effective play this year with Malik. He will force the defense to honor him this year, unlike Kaaya. That puts one less defender in the box allowing more holes for Walton. If he does keep it he has the athleticism to make a big play. Should be fun to watch.

TBH i saw more impressive throws from Malik in the Duke game than most of Bards career. I don't like to rip current or past Canes but that's the truth

Rosier is the safe pick, but you have to swing for the fences and start Perry

Stop drinking, man!

This team has championship aspirations. We can't throw a freshman that just showed up last month under center and ask him to lead this team! Perry as the starter will get us beat in 2-3 games we'd have no business losing.

We need to ride Evan or Rosier to the promised land. My personal preference is Rosier, because I have seen what he can do in a game - I saw him toss gems during the duke game. He let his nuts hang in that road game and made some remarkable throws ---all on 3 days practice, it was 4 days after Golden was fired, and a couple of days after Arti's mother died. Rosier showed me a LOT that game. He showed he has "it" in him

He played fearless, and he didn't hesitate on those throws. Give me a guy like that all day long

We don't need him to be Carl Lewis out there. We just need Malik to pick up yards with his feet when plays break down. That alone will give defenses headaches, because he has shown the arm talent, and good touch on the deep ball. With the kind of skilled players we have, that element will force defenses to cover the entire field.

So Rosier and Shirreffs still neck and neck then.

Time to narrow the competition down to those two. We need to get this position nailed down before the season starts.

They're not neck and neck, I have 0 faith in Shirreffs ability as a qb on Saturdays. Doing a decent job in Practice is all well and good but he's still a walk on talent in real life.

You are an idiot, in real life. Evan Shirreffs was a kid that started one year in high school, and has absolutely blown up in the weight room since coming to UM. Dude is 6'5"-6'6" and about 225. Had he been that size coming out of high school, with the stats he had, with more than one year starting experience, I promise you he'd have had a **** of a lot of offers.

I'm good with Rosier or Shirreffs starting, with both of them having a short leash.

Also a willingness to run the ball. And rainbows all day? GTFOOH. You do realize those highlights are from 3 years ago, and he has gotten a LOT bigger, right? I swear, we have some of the thickest headed fans on the planet.

Need somebody to break down the Duke game rosier started in since it looks like he's the starter.

Let me ask you, why is the Duke game film more important than a couple scrimmages against a REAL defense?
