Is arroyo big enough yet?
Size wasn't the question I had for him as far as contributing early. https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/2021-class-review-part-1-ees-teammates.168524/

Elijah Arroyo - I know some fans think he's one of the best players in this class, but whether I agree or not I think he belongs in this tier. He's too raw and plays a position that's often not a major driver of college offense. I love his highpoint skills, catch radius and buildup speed. He's a very "natural catcher of the football" as some put it. He runs angry with the ball and has the traits to be a good blocker as he gets stronger and more experienced. I have a lot of issues with his technique though. He doesn't know how to release vs press. His routes are very raw with regard to footwork and body positioning, and that's critical for TEs who often have to create separation in tight spaces (think Witten).

I do think he has untapped route potential with his fluidity and agility, and he's accustomed to lining up all over the formation. Two names came to mind watching him: Tyler Eifert and Mike Gesicki. 2 athletic TEs who flex out of the formation and make plays down the field with the speed and ball skills. I can see Arroyo being that type of weapon by 2022.
He was quite raw on his HS film so I'd be surprised if he's ready to be a consistent contributor this soon. I don't doubt that his athleticism is wowing on Greentree but it's different in game action when the speed and physicality picks up and you need to be more precise. But then again Mallory doesn't block or win with technique either so it's possible Arroyo is just a more athletic version of him already. I don't see either guy splitting out in the slot and earning intermediate targets like Jordan occasionally did. Hodges could be that guy but he might just lack the physical traits to warrant snaps idk.

Idk how i feel about the young receivers killing us…

great they are balling but does our tackling suck? Are we still doing that soft cover 2 look in obvious passing situations… and we going 0 but getting torched on the back end… 🤷🏾‍♂️
I am just happy they are catching the ball.
We want kids who catch the ball no matter what the coverage is and how the other team is tackling.
No need to overanalyze things here.

Or maybe the D shut down the run and had sacks forcing a lot of 3rd and long and the receivers collected some numbers on what would be considered winning plays by the defense - 3rd and 14 give up a 10 yard completion- defense wins but O gets stats.

Very concerning.
Kind of depends on your point of view. We think the offense will be better than the defense, so if the defense is playing well, that's a great sign. But it could also mean our o line play isn't as good as we think it might be, which would definitely be an issue. We will see soon enough.
