Sam Brooks

I was admittedly a bit concerned regarding Brooks’ shift from pass rusher to traditional linebacker but he looked really good when he was on the field last year. I’m excited to see a bit more athleticism at the linebacker spot.

shaq was a very good college player who obviously didn't play the right position or have the movement in space to be a high NFL pick... this was obvious early in his career. pinckney is one of the great players of the richt/manny era but you could watch him as a sophomore and know he was going to be an UDFA just based on his body and athleticism. enjoyed watching those guys but it's not controversial at all to say we can do way better from an athleticism standpoint... it's been clear.

some people on this board constantly bring up our LB recruiting, but i'm excited to see brooks, huff and TAC. only need 2 LBs these days and we know mccloud will be steady. got athletes behind him.

Players like Shaq can still make an impact in the league provided he gets in the right scheme. He matches up very similar to Vince Williams out of FSU who's played several years and contributed.

Remember, Brooks is still learning the position and Manny covets experienced upperclassmen:

WLB McCloud | Brooks | Huff | Cave

MLB Jennings | Joyner | Steed | Flagg

Brooks only weighs 219 pounds? Anyone else think that's a little too light?

I've never seen an issue with a small linebacking core. If an offense wants to bring in the heavy run game, sure, put our fat linebackers back there.

However, no one runs the I-form as much. So the hand it lent to the faster, twitchier guys.

Run & hit is the name of the game.

Not really. I mean I think Lavonte David plays at around 230 in the NFL. 220 should be fine for the coastal would not hurt to add 5 solid lbs of muscle but the difference at that point is likely negligible.

Kid can still grow imo. Needs to put size on during off season so he doesn't lose it all during the season.
