I think he will play a lot this yearJoyner was killing it last year during the spring before the injury. He was set for a bunch of pt.
I don’t know who watches the same games. Blaming position coaches for kids not reaching g the nfl seems weak, imo. you got kids from anywhere and everywhere reaching the nfl. A more likely explanation is this fan base overrated our recruits’ athletic potential and is surprised when they don’t become first round picks. Shaq’s a great kid but perhaps not what the nfl looks for in a first round pick. This is what I worry about. You saw it with Shaq, McCloud and Pinckney. Shaq improved because he's Shaq, the kid is a born leader. And he didn't improve enough. Meanwhile, the other two never developed into what I expected, never took a big 3rd-year step we normally see. Joyner, Brooks and Huff seem all more naturally gifted that their predecessors. But will they develop?
I don't even give Patke credit for their recruitment, tbh. Banda was the guy that brought in Brooks IIRC. And we almost lost Huff. Manny had to keep him in the fold, made him a priority. And it was Manny who recruited Joyner. Patke is so "meh". Dude better step up bigtime this year.
True. Speed was the issue with Shaq and Pickney. He and Huff will be an upgrade insofar as speed is involved.
Yea he probably gone be around 230 jr year ands I think that’s the perfect weight for himSam Brooks current weight is 219lbs as of 3 days ago.
He’ll be good by the time the season starts. Can’t wait to see us let him go this year.Sam Brooks current weight is 219lbs as of 3 days ago.
Might as well pack it up. Al fraud almost accomplished skunking out.If there are no Bulls at UM, you ain't recruiting right!

I think fans overrate development generally relative to evals, scheme and S&C. I am not saying position coaches do not matter at all but they matter more for college play than nfl potential, imo. UM fams have blamed bad development for guys not becoming nfl stars for years. The truth is our coaching has been terrible, but it shows up in college outcomes more than anything. The nfl can find players in DII.I respect your opinion, ES, no beef with you. I am just super unimpressed with Patke. Maybe I misread you, but are you saying that the quality of linebacker coaching doesn't matter?
I personally believe kids develop more under quality coaches, which I don't consider Patke to be. Maybe he improves now that he's been LBs coach for a couple of years. Many of our coaches have been learning on the job, some have been getting better. For me, Patke is on the hook to make sure Joyner, Brooks and Huff improve significantly.

Stump (Gooden) was uber athletic. Kid was a star playing baseball and in track as well. Played similar position as Brooks as well. Prop Joe got to go at it with Gooden in high school. If Brooks become that type of player we'll love it. Gooden was shredded as well. Brooks should be a solid 230 by next season im bettingI think in response to a post @HighSeas made about Brooks last year I mentioned Tavares Gooden. I know it's unlikely we have verified athletic HS testing numbers for Gooden. However, Gooden's transition from HS rush End to College LB and the style he and Brooks chased plays down always made me remember Gooden. I think Gooden was like 230 when he entered the NFL. I think Brooks can be pretty close to that in the next couple years. Interested to see Brooks' instincts in choosing gaps this year. We know he can run to the sidelines and chase plays backside well.
The part where development most closely relates to NFL potential is how players get to showcase tools within a college defensive system. For example, a Corner who might struggle at zone is placed into more man coverage spots in a college scheme. How that player looks will affect his NFL stock even if he has the potential. Think Chickillo playing the wrong style of DE at the wrong weight here. He lost some upfront money, but was still "found."I think fans overrate development generally relative to evals, scheme and S&C. The linebacker room is going to be really solid in a year. Brooks, Huff, Joyner, Austin Cave, Flagg. With Sam’s athleticism and speed complimenting his instincts like you said, the next few years are going to be exciting to watch him grow. incoming freshman Austin-Cave who IMO is one of the more underrated recruits we got last year, his instincts are off the charts too. He's by far the most athletically explosive LB we have...
He had a lot of doubters on this board, but if go back & check those threads you'll see a familiar name telling yall that boy is going to kill it by his Red Frosh/Sophomore season.
Every game he played in he immediately came in & made an impact, vs Bethune he lead the team tackles & had the highest defensive PFF grade & vs La Tech did the same thing, small sample size but his upside is sky high.
He plays so fast diagnosising & locating the ball carrier, but what he has more than anything is phenomenal change of direction & recovery speed. There were a few plays vs LA Tech where he initially shot the wrong gap but immediately flipped, recovered & tracked down the RB & still got the tackle. He has high level sideline to sideline speed & his instincts are off the charts.
Kenneth Murray is a great comparison, he also reminds me of Patrick Queen from LSU who just got drafted by the Ravens, both are highly athletic Mike LB's in the 220-230lbs range with very good speed & active feet.
And even though he may be playing WLB this season, I think his upside will be best at MLB.
Don't know where i posted it but I was pretty convinced that i wasn't going to believe until i saw them play. It doesn't take much but i can say ive drank the mushroom kool aid and put my o&gs on. Which has lead me to jamming a dj maseo trip hop set and ompletely bugging out...
Also based on subscriptions rivals admitted the bigger the fanbase. That's been one of the most overstated myths that Brooks wasn't back to full speed his Senior season.
He had a 100tcks 21TFL's & 16 sacks. I think people think he like sat his Senior year or something when he literally played in every game except the preseason game lol.
He had his best season of his HS career his Senior year & didn't miss any games, he was injured in October vs CC his Junior year, had surgery, recovered & played every snap of his Senior Season & was the leading tackler on our State championship Defense.
He's been fully recovered for 2 off seasons now, Idk why people keep bringing it up lol.
His ranking was lowered because he didn't go to any of the Rivals camps, people have to realize 247/Rivals rankings are all political & not merit based or based upon skill set.
