Sam Brooks

Looking pretty big...should he and Tyler Johnson move to DE? Manual keeps recruiting pass rushers to play LB but it's not too late to correct that mistake with these two.
idc if his upper body looks like Mr. Olympia dude has chickenlegs. I said it when he was a HS Soph and caught a bunch of backlash and fans still don't get it...Brooks is high-hipped, stiff and straightlinish. He's like the modern NBA athlete a la Jalen Green. Everything has to be linear for him to produce. In HS he put up a bunch of fugazi production as an unblocked edge rusher or with cleanup plays. He doesn't really have a position at this level. Maybe he can mix in as a subpackage standup rusher.

Tyler Johnson is a versatile athlete with LB skills. He doesn't need to change positions.

Moving Brooks and Johnson to DE would allow Roberts to remain at DT. LB depth takes a hit but you'd still have Jennings, Steed, Ragone, Alford, Smith, Huff, Flagg, Cave, Troutman
Ragone and Alford....hey someone take this man's drink...cut em off for the night

Supposedly he’s out fall camp. Same toe injury
LoL me and my gf were arguing and I kicked the fridge door an broke my big toe! The pain is the worst if ever felt I couldn't put on a shoe for months it took a long time to heal and I can still feel it doesn't feel right it's been a year now. Toe injury is no joke!

What happened to the Days when you put your best athlete in on defense that didn’t know the plays and told him to hit somebody or “Go Get The Quarterback” ....This is D1 Football at MIAMI... Play the damnv TALENT ... end of Story.... Brooks could have made a game changing play just on pure Athletic Ability... I’m sure 34 is a nice boy, but he’s no Miami linebacker

That's movie type **** and a great disservice to the players we had here in the past. They can learn out there, but if they're clueless then they get dusted.

As for Brooks specifically, he went through a serious injury and isn't some super talented player since. Maybe that changes this year, but he looked light compared to his listed weight last year and often ran himself out of the play. He's not all that instinctual yet either.

Something hasn't translated from all that high school hype. Run of the mill to this point.

Your response made me think of this lol

Even with his lack of instincts he should have not been splitting snaps with Zack and the crew. We could have taken our learning curve hits last year and been in a better position this year with him. Now we’re in his junior year still trying to learn.
Brooks is a super athletic kid that needed the snaps for his sake and Miami sake. Now we’re still suspect at linebacker going into another season.

I think I found a solution that would allow for adequate depth along the front seven:

DE (8) McCloud, D. Johnson, Brooks, Harvey, Chantz, Davis, Ishmael, T. Johnson

DT (8) Ford, Silvera, Miller, Hunte, Roberts, Q. Williams, Taylor, Haye

LB (8) Jennings, Steed, Keontra, Huff, Flagg, Cave, Troutman, C. Smith

soooo your solution is simply move brooks from LB to DE and Chase from striker to LB and everything else stays exactly the same or am I missing something fam?

Ty Johnson to DE also. The beauty of this is its simplicity. This depth chart would allow plenty of time for development.

DE: McCloud and DeAndre are the only upperclassmen.

DT: Ford and Silvera are the only upperclassmen.

LB: Jennings and Steed are the only upperclassmen

Ah missed Johnson. But I think he can be a good LB, why not keep him at LB, Chase can stay at striker where is still a little light, and we have 7 DE to rotate? Realistically the odds of Tyler getting DE snaps in season is minimal and might set back his LB development if he is practicing at DE all year. Also if this year's DE class pans out with some of our prospects, a guy like Johnson likely never sees the field as a DE.

Brooks's problem is health. He was limping all year and his game is built on speed. He got a procedure done on his foot and hopefully he is 100% for the season.
He’s out for the summer. That does not bode well for him

No Ty Johnson to DE, I reject this
