Safety Depth

We really have no idea who is going to wind up at Safety. So to say we are in trouble at Safety is senseless. CBs move to Safety ALL THE TIME.

And in this day and age, safeties had better be able to have some corner skills with as many 3 and 4 WR sets offensives are running. The days of the Lee Flowers 'one-dimensional in-the-box safety has gone the way of the Dodo bird

Just keep recruiting elite athletes and put the four best in the backfield.

Gunter was also getting a look at safety last year before we moved him to CB. I like his measurables for safety, but he may be our best CB.

This makes me think we might see a cb switch to safety now

I think OP's likely correct in suggesting that one of our CBs moving to safety seems necessary/likely, I'm just not sure which one is the best fit.
Gunter picture

He seems the obvious choice to me but he also seems like the staff's first choice at corner so I didn't want to throw him out if they're that sold on him as our best guy there. In a perfect world I think you see Burns, Howard and Crawford take over at CB and facilitate that move as those 3 seem to be higher upside guys physically.... positions us to get our best athletes on the field with those 3 at corner and then a very solid 4 at safety with Bush/Jenkins/Carter/Gunter. That's 7 very good/solid athletes I think you should be able to rely on.

Mayes will be a safety in my opinion

dont even think that kid likes to hit....i never like hearing that about my safeties...so think he is a cb all the way.

He will be a nice size cb here....we need to be scouring the country for a safety prospect for this class...Gayot, Mike Johnson, and dear i say Quincy Wilson even though that kid seems to really hate us now...during the season it may play out differently

Lockley said he's going to play TE or LB at UM. I think t was Hurlie brown that said that also in an interview

Quincy is gonna commit to UF next month. I think the damage has been done with Michael Johnson I'm not sure we can fix that situation. it doesn't look like an offer is coming his way anytime soon either. Gayot would be a good option. I would want gayot & another safety for this class IF none of our current CBS switch over to safety.

What? no, I mean a cb on the roster will move to safety......

All of this will be worked out in training camp when Golden converts some corners to safety. Some of these corners will be happy to switch when they see that it will be hard to get playing time at CB. I think these players would rather switch there positions than transfer in the future.
