Safeties and linebackers

It's refreshing to watch these guys play. Everything is urgent, fast and physical. Bissainthe is an NFL linebacker, Thomas and Toure set the tone, Aguirre is coming on strong, Fitzgerald is a special athlete, and Poyser is throwing his body around. I expect Chase Smith, Bobby Pruitt. Dylan Day and Kellen Wiley II to keep leveling up during ACC play.

What are you guys seeing at these spots?
The most obvious thing: competence and depth. We haven't seen this since Richt's first year at LB and the S are more disciplined than any we have had in a couple of decades, even if some of those in between were arguably more talented. They hit, they wrap, they may get beat once or twice but not repeatedly like they have in recent years. The scheme may be simpler-I'll leavet that to those who know better than me, but they play smart and physical.

Very happy for Bissainthe. He’s playing to a level I think we all expected when he signed. Great to see him step up. Kudos to Heatherman for the across the board improvement of LB play. It’s really something to watch a Canes game and not lose my mind over a f*cking jet sweep being run left and right on us.

Go Canes!

I’m seeing old school Cane defense
3 and 4 are in a race to meet at QB like medaris and patrick were

I see everyone racing to ball 7-8 hats every play

The violence, aggression and yet discipline are there

I also know they are not close to their ceiling!
😁

who is starting ahead of Fitzgerald? He should be starting and taking over more starting reps soon.

Line backers look good but maybe we need to rotate Toure more. i feel like offensive coordinators are going to start scheming to get him covering in space which hes not ideal at doing? I think miami needs to rotate Toure and poysner more often. The young guys look ready

Bissainthe has turned the corner, he is a legitimate LB and I didnt think that would happen.

Toure is a nice player that flows well in the run game.

Aguirre is decent, but looks limited athletically.

Thomas is our best DB and heaven sent.

Poyser is fine nothing special so far.

Fitzgerald is a ball hawk that will need some added strength to affect the run game.

Day is a special teams missle.

Their is no way Fitz is ready to start. That isn't happening this year. He needs to gain weight and work on his tackling. He is doing great in passing situations right now. He has unique ball hawking skills. Don't float the ball deep with him in the vicinity. I think our S's are playing on a different level than our LB's. Our LB's are still inconsistent to me. Not bad at all, just inconsistent. Toure has a problem in coverage that isn't getting fixed.

The LB turn around has been incredible.
I think Toure has changed the room and he seems like a good leader.
Got to give credit to ALL the new defensive coaches not just the DC.

I think Fitz is light years better than Poyser (who has been decent and forced that fumble) but I get working him in and trusting the veteran to start. But with Fitz the run fits seem fine and he seems perfectly willing to tackle, even if it's obviously not his strength. I'm super excited about him. Best freshman safety play since Kenny Phillips.

It really matters when you know where you have to be and can simply run there. Motion no longer has our DBs in a state of pure confusion. It also matters when your DC is ahead of the OC. Using Safeties to fill into the Cs and Edges and free up DL to do their thing is beautiful work. I don't know if Hetherman will go stale (like Guidry did after he switched to Tite fronts for some games and then went blank the following year), but so far...

Didn’t Guidry switch to tite fronts because of our lack of depth due injuries?

I can't wait until Hetherman gets his hands on a healthy BWash(⏸️). Kid's gonna realize the crazy high potential that certainly woulda been wasted under Lispy...

I think an argument could be made for Scott at Nickel but can't disagree with your assessment of Thomas.

Bain is Alpha Dog #1A on this team, but Thomas has to be right there at #1B.
QB will always be the #1 need on a team, so Beck was the #1A addition in the portal but again, Thomas needs to be considered #1B. He's been an absolute DUDE for us and his name is called seemingly every possession on D.

Kid is having an All-ACC year and if he keeps up his current play, might get some All-American mention.

I think Coach Heatherman has made the biggest impact -The communication gap has disappeared-We are reacting without confusion and everyone is swarming to the rock-

It’s made a world of difference-How can you not love what Thomas , Scott and Poyser have done-

Bissainthe has grown miles-No doubt he can make impact at the next level.

I agree with D Money on this post. It’s a big difference from the past few years. I would love for Toure to be in better positions sometimes. He gets lost in coverage a lot and D Coordinators are targeting him. Besides that I’m happy for both units.

Safety play has gone from a weakness to a strength

What an eval Thomas for what I imagine was somewhat bargain bin (at least compared to Haulcy).

And Poyser had improved immensely since ND.

Also @DMoney is Pruitt currently at safety or LB? Or basically just learning both and depth at both?
