Rumph to UM

How has our secondary play been underwhelming?
Did you watch the Virginia game? What about a true freshman starting his first game at Pitt lighting up the world against us? Maybe he's the next Marino.. I doubt it. Toledo kid. Wisconsin QB... etc.

Had a top 5 DL in regards to pressure.. the secondary should have feasted. UNDERWHELMING

I also find it hilarious that some on the board credit Rumph for the DB haul we just signed as a whole, saying we just signed 4 4* DBs and we can't land everyone. That would require not only refusing to acknowledge we have 2 coaches on the staff devoted to the secondary, but also that Al Blades' son was the only recruit for whom Rumph was the primary.

The 2018 DB class in South Florida was widely heralded as the greatest ever, yet Rumph ranked 128th in 247 Sports' recruiter rankings despite having otherworldly access to premier talent. Rival programs will hammer Rumph by rhetorically asking CB recruits why they would trust him with their development when Campbell & Surtain, who've had relationships with him for over a decade, clearly didn't.

Please stop defending your bd in every thread.
Tf you talking about? I clearly Said he should have landed Campbell no excuses but I aint going to cry like a little b*tch like you will about the situation. Everybody ain’t meant to be a cane, if you ain’t sh*tting then get tf off the pot...And that goes for any south Florida kid that leaves

Thank you been saying this in the ladson thread

I can understand some of the venom being spewed here towards Coach Rumph, for his shortcomings as a recruiter, specifically with the AH DB's. However, he's done well developing some of his CB's the past few years. Corn Elder enjoyed his best season as a Cane, while playing under Rumph and is now in the NFL. Adrian Colbert did nothing during his 4 years at Texas. Was an after-thought when he came to Miami as a grad-transfer. He's now in the NFL and (God willing, IF he stays healthy) is looking like he'll have a long pro career. Mike Jackson was getting pushed out by some of you this time last year, and now he's got a shot to garner some All-American consideration and a possible career at the next level. Malek Young was headed to stardom, prior to his career-ending injury. Bandy is flourishing. For some of you to knock Rumph for his coaching prowess or lack thereof is unwarranted and unsubstantiated.

As a fellow Canes fan, let's hope he can do a better job on the recruiting end and let's stop with the hate.

LET'S GO CANES!!

Please read the whole thread.

It was stated earlier that Colbert and Corn were 4 star athletes and experienced players. Of course they would improve as upperclassmen with elite natural talent.

A better way to evaluate a coach is to look at how his unit as a WHOLE performs, instead of cherry picking two 4 star athletes.

The guy shouldnt be here.

While corn elder was solid, his game was taken to another level his senior year, Colbert may have had traits but he didn’t see the field after his freshman pretty much until he got to Miami. He personally credited rumph in his development. Jackson, bandy and Young(mostly early in the season) all played very well last year. Delaney played well after the first2 games

Lol... if kids don’t want to stay home and play football how are YOU going to land them?.... You can’t force a kid to do something they don’t want to do

For one, you could do your job, which is to convince recruits to sign with UM. This excuse has been used by our fans for years to shift blame away from the coaches. There was plenty to sell from UM's perspective - immediate playing time, close proximity to family and friends, a program on the rise, top-notch education, etc. Too many idiots here have pointed the finger to bagmen, lack of facilities or an on-campus stadium, and whatever else as reasons to absolve the coaches of any guilt.

The reality is we were beat, plain and simple. Concern is further compounded when a blue-chip recruit like Campbell claims UGA and Bama were recruiting him harder than the University less than an hour away from his high school. This goes beyond any desire to get out of town. It's a trend of Rumph quickly becoming one of the worst recruiters on staff and being outworked by the competition.

You make it as it just on rumph. Once again I quesioned It when Campbell said it at the army game he mentioned the only Miami coach that he trust was rumph but at uga and bama he mentioned Kirby, Mel tucker and coley/ saban/ Ansley for bama. Again what was richt and Diaz doing in the recruitment?

Ok Rumph is better at developing then the scrubs Golden had on the squad. That doesnt mean ****. You think Corn isnt going to credit his coach. Any player would say that ****. Jackson, Bandy, and Young where all very good DBs in HS they where expected to perform like that. Delaney played worse as a senior then he did as a senior.
