RPO vs FSU

I think this game will come down to whether Ricth goes conservative or aggressive on offense. He goes and try to protect Perry with short passes, screens, and handoffs to Walton they'll stack the box and sit on all routes. Or he goes for the gusto and mix in some deep passes to Richards, Thomas, and Harley. And seam throws to Berrios and Herdon. If thats the case i see Perry going 09 Jacory Harris against em

Man, we are really starting to sound like the Noles of the early 2000s. The season is bigger than just the FSU game. Start the right quarterback for the season, not just this one game. Let whoever that quarterback is run the **** offense that puts the team in the best position to win the most games.

I love how everyone is just so shook up that they have to make a new thread about it everyday...

The **** game ain't happening for another 4 months and we still don't even know who all the starters will be.

We haven't gone through the first wave of Fall camp injuries, we don't know who will be suspended by then either.

And the assumption that everyone keeps making is that Perry is going to struggle (which he probably will)...

Newsflash: So will Shirreffs or Rosier, neither of them has ever played in this game & we have no idea how they'll perform in those circumstances.

I hope one of the upperclassmen is the starter, but if you think playing this super conservative Offense where the QB doesn't have to make any big time throws will be enough to win, you're delusional.

It doesn't matter if it's Rosier, Shirreffs or Perry, in order to beat FSU, your QB has to make next level throws that challenge their secondary down the field, that 5yd checkdown **** y'all keep bumping is gonna have us down by 3 scores in the 1st half.

Take a look at all the QB's that have beat them over the last few years, Watson 2x, Justin Thomas, Greg Ward Jr, Lamar Jackson & Mitch Trubisky (who went 31-38 for over 400yds & they still only won on a FG).

Your QB is either gonna have to be **** near perfect, or rush for 100yds, but the strategy was always the same.

Every team that has beat FSU, attacked the **** out of their Defense & they didn't play scared "hope we don't lose" ball.

Just because Miami's offenses have been archaic, doesn't mean the RPO is some kind of rocket science. High schools run this stuff. Yes, the speed is different but that's the same for every single aspect of the game.

I would guess Richt's gameplan against FSU will depend on how the offense performs in the two games before they meet. I also think he needs to throw the ball a lot in those first two games; more than he normally would. He already knows what he has with Walton. FSU is going to make Miami throw. It would be stupid for them not to make whoever is playing QB beat them.

in 2014, Miami had FSU on the ropes until they decided to stop throwing the ball.

In 2015, The game would have been a blowout if not for Kaaya being the mad bomber and dropping over 400 yards to keep the game winnable. Running game had single digits.

In 2016, Kaaya got shook early and the passing game didn't click. With no help from the running game besides a long Mark Walton run (that didn't count anyway) The defense couldn't totally shut FSU out and again, Miami loses.

To beat FSU you have to attack their secondary. You have to make them commit to dropping more men into coverage, then you can gash them with the running game. They're not going to sit back and let you run the ball at them.

If we win, it is something like 13-10. Don't see us winning a 45-42 type game. Bet the under all day.

Can't play scared and expect to beat FSU. I'm not saying to play stupid either--can't have Perry out there attempting 50 passes, but we have to play our game. That includes the RPO. If he, or any of the other QBs can't properly execute one of the offense's staple plays then they shouldn't be on the field.

Our OL currently isn't built to pound the run game. No way Walton and the run game isn't the first thing FSU game plans to stop. We'll need to use the RPO to soften their defense.

Can't he do both?

I would spread them out and put the QB on the move, roll outs & bootlegs. Stay on schedule regarding down & distance. Finally, Herndon needs to be maximized to exploit FSU.

FSU's defense recently has been terrible against Mobile QB's.
Every team that had a mobile QB against FSU put up 30+ points last year.
This includes Louisville who has a crap OL, and USF who doesn't matchup talent wise.
Even Ole Miss put up 34 against FSU while going 5-7 last year

The issue the past 3 years is we had a QB with zero mobility who wasn't good under pressure. Every team with a talented Dline beat us. All they had to do was call run blitzes on 1st and 2nd with rush packages on 3rd. If Perry can escape the rush and make the dline play on their toes, rather than teeing off on Kaaya, we will be fine.

Kaaya was prolly their best matchup. as you said, they had issues w Qbs w mobility. Kaaya couldn't move out of the pocket and they knew that and it let them look a lot like FSU on D than what they had looked like before that game.

esp when they know the QB can't hurt them if its not a throw.
