He's a beta cuck and scared to death of AHNo it doesn't. James would get the credit for hiring Highsmith—so that would be a resume win for him. Not to mention, he's in the BoT's good graced as a fundraiser and glad-handler.
Some of y'all really don't get that an athletic director's job is way more than just football head coaching hires. By many other accounts, James is doing a fine job—regarding an AD's title—and is well-liked by UM's top brass.
There's literally no way he wouldn't hire Highsmith because that type of football success would ultimately get hire fired. Completely non-sensical.
