Romberg Gets It

Maybe they can't pick up a blitz because they don't put in the extra work required to be better than the blitzer. Maybe they committed 8 turnovers because they aren't putting in the work to keep that to a minimum. It isn't about dogs or tough guys. It's about getting a bunch of guys who have a burning desire to be better than the guy next to them or across from them and are willing to put in the work and sacrifice to achieve it. I don't believe we have seen that type of player at Miami in a very long time with the exception of a few guys.

Part of the problem is there hasn't been a coach who has been willing to rid the team of those guys until they have a large enough group who are willing and have that desire to actually win. I am willing to give Mario the chance to do that.
Sorry, but this is a lot of bullsh*t because neither you nor I can quantify or prove this. "Lack of heart" and "culture" is a lazy way to explain failure.

I mean, do you know how many times I saw Wiggins, Pope, and Ivey on the intramural field the last several years doing work with a trainer on their own? A lot.

It's all about coaching and talent. Unfortunately, in both regards, we're lacking and/or underperforming. But, IMO, it's not because the kids don't care or don't work hard. Every program is recruiting the same kids. The idea that we're picking the ones with no heart isn't a viable excuse IMO.

Working out with a trainer is not the same as being punched in the face and responding accordingly. That is what swag is. That is what we don't have. I am ok with losing. I am not ok with how we lose.

Dee Wiggins has 4 catches for 67 yards at Louisville in his 5th year playing college football. Guess his coaches at Louisville suck too. Mark Pope has 1 catch for 15 yards this season. Guess coach prime sucks at teaching guys to catch.

You have your opinion and I have mine. My opinion is this coaching staff top to bottom is the first one in a long time that is made up of guys who have been successful at the highest levels. You cannot say the same for any players on the current roster and I am willing to bet my money on the guys who have been successful over the guys who haven't.

Sure. I don't disagree. Because we don't know how to win. But you learn to win with talent + coaching and playing/winning big games time and time again. You can't get there simply by recruiting tough-minded kids. It doesn't happen overnight. You need the coaching and talent. And like I said, there is some combination of underperforming coaches/talent and lack of talent.

lmao y’all will believe this drivel that each coach feeds you to explain why they can’t win games. We look exact same or worse and we don’t even look improved in a single area. W richt, at least we could say the defense was notably better going from dorito. W manny, we pointed to the offense being notably better once he hired lashlee. W Mario right now, all units look the same or worse. He’s got 10 years of exp.

That’s incorrect. Gattis waaant successful at Michigan. It’s been proven. When he was the sole oc they were bottom third offensively. They only improved Jim made staff changes and gave him help.

It's not that we are agreeing or disagreeing.

My point is, arguing about whether kids are tough, have heart, etc. on a message board is not fruitful. No one can prove or disprove these things. What we can discuss in more quantifiable terms is talent + coaching. And like I've said, talent + coaching this season has been underwhelming.

He won the **** Broyles award for best assistant in the country. You keep going with he hasn't been successful and it's never the players. You used an example of three guys and all three have been with different coaches but the results have still been the same. At some point, you have to admit it's the players.

he also was forced to take on a Co-OC in Moore and the HC had to get more involved in the day 2 day of the O bc his first two years were crap. but bRoYlEs bro. hes not a good OC. nothing on his resume short of an HC basically taking away his duties screams that

The award is voted on by his peers of current coaches and former head coaches around the country. I guess you know more than the people who literally do this for a living at a very high level.

but again I guess you didn’t pay attention to Michigan as much as you paid attention to broyles bro. His offensive ranks as a sole oc we’re not good. Harbaugu had take away duties from him and even had another coach take on the wrs. The co oc from last year and the qb coach are now co ocs and have Michigan rolling along

I do agree with you. Losing isn't the problem. I expect losses in a rebuilding year, or under a new staff. What I never expect is to get the crap kicked out of us by inferior programs. Even in a rebuilding year, we shouldn't get bent over by MTSU or Duke.

Randy Shannon won a Broyles. He was bad as a dc following his hc tenure at Miami
He currently has the noles ranked 25 in total defense. Maybe the players just weren't very good? Or maybe he forgot how to coach and just remembered how to do it this year.

A Rambo and Harley that this fanbase thought was trash before Lashlee got ahold of them? OU fans said Rambo was a drop machine and they didn’t want him. They wanted younger guys to play. So the question is do you think those guys put up anywhere close to the same stats now? The answer is obvious. The scheme made those guys.
lol who thought Rambo was trash? Yeah he had some drops, but that didn't mean he was trash. Harley wasn't good, he was average and was getting force fed the ball. And average is better than what we have. At least now it looks like Colbie Young will at least be a good WR. No idea when Restrepo will play. Our RBs have been incredibly *** along with our OLine.

Honestly without TVD this is the least talented Offense (who we actually have healthy and playing) that I can think of. Seriously Parrish is just a solid RB. Nothing special. Knighton lord knows what the **** happened to him but he is legit the worst talented RB we have ever had. Thad was never good - and I never understood ANY of the hype he got in the offseason. We haven't had our best Olineman. And the rest are experienced but not good and undersized.... Like TE is the only position we are decently talented at and Arroyo is also hurt and Skinner is a skinny freshman.

I really don't see this offensive talent as being anything but mostly bummy 4 stars.

Every team he’s seen been at has had bad players. All of them! Quite unlucky for him

He was actually bad at ou. They benched him and he wasn’t getting his spot back. Harley couldn’t catch.

And he was good in 2019... So show me what healthy WRs on this roster were ever even considered good? None. Rambo got to campus and was immediately our best WR lol. And then we got the same group of WRs and added no immediate starter. So how on earth could this group be considered even close to as good as last years? Makes zero sense.

He was defensive coordinator for the Gators when they stunk and had crappy players. UCF in 2018 was 36 in total defense and 42 in 2020. UCF didn't have great players. They had players who had a chip on their shoulders and they played better than their recruiting rankings suggested they should.

You keep proving my point and don't even realize it.
