Nah, not at all. The older Canes talking about not letting opposing players disrespect The U by throwing it down is just blowing hot smoke. Two ways to do that; get in their face/get physical with them (which will result in fights, penalties, and players getting ejected) or keep them out of the end zone. How do you keep them out of the end zone? Better coaching/scheme and better execution. simple as that. All this "playing for pride/for the U" stuff is just outdated nostalgia. You want the players to play with pride? Coaches should give them a reason to play with pride and for the U on the helmet.

Keep them out of the end zone? When the "players" hand Duke the ball on a silver platter multiple times, there is only so much you can do as a coach to keep them out of the end zone.

Kevin Steele had really good defenses at Auburn, he can coach, so miss me with the whack scheme nonsense if you are going to reference keep them out of the end zone.

Charlie Strong is a well respected DC, he can coach.


These kids have Jason Taylor and Ed Reed in the building.

Nah it the defense doesn't get the job done im 100% on it's not the coaches.

Jess Simpson DL group just waltzed into Hard Rock, and gave Miami OL group their worst performance of the season. Most hurries and sacks allowed all season and forced multiple TO's.

Had people on here thinking he couldn't coach last season. Hmmm

Common theme around here about alot of the coaches sucking, is they were successful other places before and after they were at Miami.

Steele has been a lazy washout... any f00l who watched Duke-UNC knew every offensive play Duke was going to make... heck Duke does the same thing every game.
Our coaches either are too lazy or arrogant to not watch film and set up plays to win...

Agree with some of this but Duke is a bad example, though, considering they were 3-9 last year with no magical portal this year. Elko this year has clearly been a much better coach than Mario. Saying it’s Jess Simpson and Feely looking better with better players ignores the fact that the entire Duke team looks much better and that starts at the top.

How about starting with not turning the ball over 8 times in a game. Or how about not committing 17 penalties in a single game. Or how about not letting MTSU receivers continually getting behind you in coverage.
I get it this coaching staff is not very good, especially on offense but these players take some responsibility for these loses too. There seems to be a different issue that comes up every game.
 
Accountability starts at the top. Once again, if we have a “cUlTuRe PrObLeM” why are these kids still playing let alone even on the team? At this point just bench everyone if that’s the case. What’s the worst that can happen? We already get blown out by garbage teams every week.

It's just like everything else, there are levels. Maybe somebody is performing well enough to not get benched, but nowhere near 100%.

According to a poster on here they practiced against the QB draw …. And were getting gashed in practice.

I mean it's not like position coaches/coordinators can't teach players better ball control/security techniques, amirite?

It seems pretty crazy yet here we are.

3-4 with blowout losses to Middle Tennessee and Duke.

We're significantly worse in almost every way than we were last year under the staff that got fired. There was very little roster turnover from last year to this year besides the transfers that the current staff brought in, so it's not the players who just forgot how to play football.

The flip side of that is I saw several times our players in position to make the stop and they simply can't make a tackle. The tackling has been a disaster for years and we are finally going full contact in practice and then people complain about the physicality causing injuries.

When you change coaches and the practice habits, yet the results are the same in games, what is the common denominator?

So what is the theory for how a proven head coach takes a player and now cause him to drop a football? I mean, which drill causes you to now drop a football that you used to be able to hold on to?
