Roche

Don’t get cute on 3rd down. Let our DEs wear down opposing Tackles. Develop a DT and allow them to push the pocket on 3rd. Force a collapse instead of getting cute and giving up chunk plays.
That’s why I want them to put a DT next to Rousseau on the inside. They won’t be able to take advantage of that plus I would only knock him inside if it’s 3and7+

my 2 cents based on this video, which is only one game.

$0.01: his effort on the 2nd play of the video is an absolute embarrassment.

$0.01: his get-off, both in his 3-point stance and standing, look below average.

See, it ain't just me.

I believe Roche will be our best 1 and done pick up we’ve had. For those of you that like watching tape I attached the link to his game vs Tulane and it’s incredibly impressive. Sure competition isn’t great but the tools he shows is what are impressive not the fact he’s beating lesser competition.

In the "small world / coincidence" department, yesterday's article from CBS Sport also thinks Roche will be our best draft prospect and the highest ranked defensive player in the next draft.
For those that haven't read the article, see below (article also discusses Rosseau and Jordan).

CBS Ranks DE Quincy Roche as UM’s best 2021 Draft Prospect

CBS Sports NFL Draft expert Chris Trapasso has released his first Top 100 Big Board for the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Miami Hurricanes were well represented.
Miami featured two players that ranked inside the top ten of the CBS Big Board—defensive ends Quincy Roche and Gregory Rousseau—while tight end Brevin Jordan was also featured as a Top 100 player.
Roche is the highest ranked player on the initial Big Board, checking in at No. 5. He is the highest ranked defensive player on the list.
Roche (6-4, 235) is a transfer from Temple who was the American Athletic Conference defensive player of the year in 2019 after totaling 49 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks.
During the 2019 season at Temple, Roche totaled 68 quarterback pressures on 392 pass rushing snaps (an average of a pressure for every 5.7 pass rushing snaps). He had five games in which he totaled at least seven quarterback pressures.
The 68 quarterback pressures was the second most in the country, according to PFF.
Rousseau ranks as the No. 7 player on the Big Board. On many way-too-early 2021 Mock Drafts, Rousseau is the first defensive player selected.
He led the ACC in sacks with 15.5 on the year, which only trailed the 2020 No. 2 overall pick, Chase Young, in the 2020 draft.
Rousseau's breakout season took a few games to get going.
After serving as a key rotational player for the team's first five games, he earned his first career start against Virginia and ended up totaling seven tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in a win over the then-No. 20 ranked Cavaliers.
During a two-game stretch against Pittsburgh and Florida State Rousseau was credited with a combined seven sacks.
Jordan ranks as the No. 52 overall player on the Top 100 Big Board.
Only Penn State’s Pat Freiermuth (No. 14) and Florida’s Kyle Pitts (No. 41) are tight ends that rank higher than Jordan on the list.
Jordan, one of three finalists for the Mackey Award in 2019, which honors the nation's top tight end, started 10 games in 2019 and finished with 495 receiving yards in the regular season.
Jordan was held out of the one week of spring football as he recovers from a foot injury that was sustained in the last month of the 2019 season.

Yeah I’m not sure where people were super impressed with his effort I find he quits on a lot of plays not in his area. I definitely wouldn’t say his get off is below average. It’s not top notch but he’s refined enough that it’s not that big of a problem. The most important thing is he has the bend ability that allows him to win around the edge with his hand usage

I haven't watched the game in the OP but I thought he competed well against Cincy and UNC. It's not an elite motor where he is flying across the field but he finishes plays and is tough.

Pitts over Jordan? Pitts had a great year as a jumbo WR playing TE and Brevin was hurt. I’m not certain that Pitts is much of a blocker at this time.

Can we talk about how awesome those Tulane jerseys are? I think those might be my favorite sports jerseys around...

Tough choice. Both are talented.
I know Pitts is about 4 inches taller. Have seen some of his highlights, which were impressive, but haven’t watched him enough to see how he blocks or how he is overall.
Jordan is definitely a dynamic player too, although on the shorter side for the stereotypical tight end. But we had this Willie Smith guy in the mid 80s that was a great 6’2” TE and All American one year
Gun to my head I’m going with Brevin.

BTW, congrats on becoming a staff member !!
Does that make you “one of them” or are you still “one of us?” LOL. 😉

2 Quick points.

Tulane may be an AAC opponent but they're better than at least half the teams we played last season. They run a very QB-run heavy offense so this is probably not the best film to use to highlight pass rush moves. The end/olb has more containment responsibilities against an offense like that, so he doesn't get to pin his ears back as much.

Roche does have a good combination of natural ability and technique. He's got that natural "bend" coming around the corner that all great pass rushers have but he's more than a one trick pony. He uses his hands well and despite being undersized plays with great leverage. He gets his hands into the opposing tackle's chest and shoves a man that probably outweighs him by 80 pounds backwards relatively easily.

All in all, we're talking about a guy who is 6'3 240-245?

Dude must be a **** of a technician. Watching video..

Got through half the tape before concluding Trevon Hill is better. Although I have a reputation when it comes to judging talent.
I feel the same way ...I'm not that high on Roche like others. There are some guys on here I respect when it comes to layers and they like Roche.....for me I don't see it. But there is a chance I'm wrong and hope I am. Hills tape had way more explosiveness and speed

I’m definitely still one of us not one of them. Lol. It got to the point where I was almost like a hybrid mod before anyhow. I’ve helped resolve different issues offline for some time now. Now I can do more to help out on my own.

I’m still going to mostly do what I’ve been doing as a poster - which isn’t always so Mod-like - but why do I have to completely grow up and change? I don’t want to.

I think Pitts will go higher just because his ceiling is higher as a taller mismatch. Blocking skills are great and all but being a mismatch in the passing game is what matters most right now for a TE. Not saying Brevin isn’t but he isn’t as big of a mismatch although he is more well rounded I don’t think he will go higher in the draft when all is said and done
