Rivers out for season

Oh ****, I’m an idiot. For some reason I was thinking the week off was before UVA, not after. Yeah, if King is “very doubtful” for Saturday, he’s not playing 5 days later. We better hope one of the young bucks pops this weekend (against a High School team, so, yeah) cause UVA can score. We won’t win that game 17-16.

Sucks for the kids, big time.

Sucks to a lesser extent for fans and the state of the program as injuries are now setting up to give Diaz and Miami a pass for a rough third season.

"We lost Don Chaney for the year early on, we lost Keontra Smith for half the season, Jalen Rivers went down for the year and D'Eriq was banged up early, leading to a rough start to the season. Throw in a few suspensions of guys that weren't putting team first—Jaylon Knighton and Avante Williams—and you can see why this came came out the gates flat."

Diaz will spin this to try and save his ***.
Regardless, we can now go into next season with either (or both) TVD and Garcia possessing meaningful game experience. None of our backup quarterbacks - for many years - got the sort of mop up experience that you ideally would like to see.

The curse of playing bama opening game strikes again, although rivers’ injury is not related, everything that can go wrong will go wrong and the team that played them goes into the toilet

This board would've cried rivers of tears if this summer we found out:

Don Chaney would miss most of the season
Jalen Rivers would miss most of the season
John Campbell would miss the season.
Sam Brooks would miss half the season.
Avantae Williams would miss half the season.
Keontra Smith would miss half the season.
Jaylan Knighton would miss a quarter of the season.
Derig King would miss games.
Brian Balom would miss the season.

The coaching staff nor the talent on the roster is good enough to overcome these injuries.
Quite a list. Sucks!

Sucks

This is why depth is important fellas. 4 OL every year at bare minimum. It’s almost necessary.
In this program which has perennially struggled to put together a dominant line, that floor needs to be raised to minimum 5 a year. Four just isn't good enough to keep up.

Might this affect Jakai Clark's decision to redshirt? If they won't let him compete at center, maybe he can compete with Nablob Donaldson at LG.

It appears the coaches have been trying to push out any decisions on each of them as long as they can so as to not loose one to the portal. If king misses more than just this week, then things get accelerated and the risk of one leaving increases significantly. If that happens I would expect to see new or current coaches possibly go to the portal for added depth. Going into next year with only a 2nd year and 1st year guy would be thin.

Who gives a crap. Pick the best guy and whatever happens happens. That’s how you end up with Fromm over fields
