Richts comments on the new uni's

When's the last time Oregon had a top rated recruiting class, since the kids are all flocking to them for their unis? I see Bama at the top every year. Drawing a blank the last time Oregon was anywhere near the top.

Yup.

Bunch of clowns like to talk about new uniforms and how it attracts top recruits.

Winning does. That's it.

Great post.

My wife likes the feathers. I'm sure they are hearing from their wives that they like the feathers. After all birds of a feather flock together.

Todays Recruits and PLayers want new an fresh designs that change regularly. Miami is going to be Addidas's version of Oregon and Under Armour's Maryland. So Adidas may sell retro retail jerseys, look for the game uni's that Miami uses to be more edgy as they should be.

Go Canes

Couldn't agree more!!! Only older people want the classic jersey. It looks dated and goes with the theme that we're living in the past. I really think people want anything other than the current jersey. Adidas dropped the ball with that one. This is their way of trying to make people happy. Nike has done a good job making the classic jersey's look fresh.

This. I like our current jerseys but all that matters is the players like them . who cares what 40 -60 year old fans think.

I'm hoping you're right.

I dig the old school unis because I'm almost 40 and it reminds me of a time when Miami was dominant. When I see them I instantly think of some of the all-time greats.

The younger kids want something new, breaking edge, unique. That's one of the reasons Oregon blew up a few years back. New breaking edge facilities and eye popping unis.

Ain't nothing exciting about Penn States pedophile white and pedophile blue jerseys or ND's blue and gold.

What about Bama -- think that is the same uni Joe Willie wore when Howard coached him. Oregon and Maryland have never do crap and have no tradition or pass to rest on. We are The U and invented modern college football. Every new uni is virtually an insult.
I love how he thinks that uniforms are "one of the reasons" that Oregon blew up.

Nope, not Chip Kelly nor his revolutionary offensive system. Uniforms.

I said "one of the reasons". I'm aware of Chip Kelly and his offense had a lot to do with it as well. They also marketed the school very well during that time period too and their uniforms were part of that. Recruits notice - Fashion Wars - Pick Six Previews

If they didn't notice and no one else cared we wouldn't have a new post on here every week about uni preferences.

It isn't an all or nothing proposition. Chip Kelly, who built upon the things that Belotti and Herb Brooks had done(and perfected them), was a huge reason why Oregon became nationally elite, but from a marketing standpoint, those uniforms, did play a significant role. The idea that this school, who had spent most of the post WWII era a national afterthought had become a legit program, and they were doing it with flair was something that people paid attention to. Oregon wouldn't have been able to win with just the uniforms alone, but it was the uniforms, going along with an innovative offensive system, that made a difference. That said, one doesn't have to nearly as extreme as Oregon or Maryland to make the same point. There's a way Miami can be modern(Which fits the city and program), while maintaining a connection to the past, but it requires imagination. It's a lot easier to slap a throwback out there, and play some old "The U" clips. I look at these uniforms as a missed opportunity. It's a beautiful missed opportunity, but one nonetheless. I can only hope that Adidas/Miami finds a way to articulate the 'Canes story without relying solely on the past.

We've got ourselves a lot of fashionistas on here. It's like listening to my girl and her friends talk about Project Runway.

Please tell me you're spoofing with this trash.

All the recruits care about is pimp my jersey neon threads. Oregon and Maryland have the top 2 recruiting classes every year, and the teams with a more traditional approach to football apparel can never break into the top 5.

I'd like to see us wear an actual ibis to be really edgy. Or if the admin isn't too politically correct, we can don uniforms that look like they've been through an actual hurricane. They can be tattered and torn like homeless clothes like the Yeezy collection.

So many strawmen in this statement, I don't know where to begin. No one is saying that uniforms on their own will tip the scales in recruiting. If you don't have a strong local recruiting base(Oregon), or your program has little momentum or history of success(Maryland), those uniforms won't overcome those obstacles by themselves. However, when it comes to giving your program an identity, something to differentiate yourself from other programs, it's useful. Miami, throughout the last 30+ years has rarely done what everyone else is doing. Whether it was Howard choosing to go with a pro style passing game, bringing in Earl Morrall to tutor his QBs, Jimmy bringing aggressive physical defense, or Dennis going with the one back offense, Miami rarely marches to the beat of others.

With Richt here, Miami has the coaching staff, the facilities are almost at the level we should want them at, and the on field product is improving. The one thing missing is that extra little umph, I don't believe that wearing permanent throwbacks is going to provide that. I'd love to see the throwbacks as part of the uniform rotation(I'd wear them against rival schools, and on homecoming, with a different throwback set every year, to where our younger fans could see the uniforms from the fifties and sixties), but I'd also love to see Miami have uniforms that pushed the envelope a bit. The U doesn't have to be as extreme as Oregon or Maryland, but they don't have to be permanently stuck in the past either. There's a happy medium out there, and I expect the athletic department, and especially the marketing people to find it.

Solid post.
I love these uniforms; part of it is that I'm a traditionalist, but the other is b/c anything is better than our current jerseys. My all time favorite look is our early 2000 look. However, I love the simplicity and classic look like we were as a powerhouse in the 80's/90's.

I don't necessarily consider this as a throw back. I consider this as our identity, re-born. I wouldn't mind us having some real throw backs that are up dated, thrown into the rotation. OSU did that last year.

Anyways, I'm very pleased with this. Sometimes classic and simple is much better than gimmicky.

mike bellotti was the guy who laid oregon's groundwork and had a upward trending program before kelly got there. chip just picked up where he left off.

Why do people keep comparing us to Bama and OSU. Miami has always been different from those hillbilly, no swag fanbases. Winning is all that matters but I'm tired of seeing Canes wanting to conform to what the good ole boys are doing. Those same trash teams suit all over Miami constantly but we want to be like them. **** that!

Miami has always been trend setters, not conformist. We got dudes on here wanting to be "classic" like Penn State LOL Didnt we get enough of the last regime trying tl make us Penn State?

With that said I love the new unis. Nice old school look but still looks modern, not too over the top like some of the trash Nike threw out towards the end.

LOL. This dude spends two paragraphs bellyaching about conformity and traditional uniforms then says he loves the new uniforms which are a throwback to the 80s.

tell bama and ohio state that

One of the best indicators that a CIS poster is a new Miami fan and most likely a football chick: "durrrrrrrrrr uniforms help get recuitzzz....durrr oregon.."

Stupid mother****ers don't realize that programs like Oregon and Maryland have empty trophy cases, meanwhile the boring programs like Bama, OSU, etc. are cleaning up on titles and recruits.

AMEN

Nothing wrong with paying homage to our past, but I want nothing to do with wanting to be like Bama, OSU and Penn State like some on this board.

Wow. First page showed a total lack of reading comprehension. Richt is talking about when he was at Georgia working with Nike. Lotta pussies gasping for anything to be worried about.
