Richts comments on the new uni's

Changing uniforms every week and having ghey *** neon colors is a gimmick used by programs that can't win on the actual field, where it counts. Oregon and Maryland may have sneaker executives as alums but they suck at football. The whole "kids dig crazy uniforms" idea was a lame duck (pun intended) idea by Nike to try to get southern California kids to come play at Oregon. It reeks of desperation. You'd never see Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma or Michigan go with the gimmick route. Maybe an occasional "special" jersey but they've kept it the same for decades. Same for USC, Stanford, Clemson, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, etc.

Really don't care what we wear. Just win. I will say, it seems today's kids like the flashy unis so I'm not sure if that 80s look will be a big hit with them but I doubt any kid is deciding where they will play based on unis anyway.

So many strawmen in this statement, I don't know where to begin. No one is saying that uniforms on their own will tip the scales in recruiting. If you don't have a strong local recruiting base(Oregon), or your program has little momentum or history of success(Maryland), those uniforms won't overcome those obstacles by themselves. However, when it comes to giving your program an identity, something to differentiate yourself from other programs, it's useful. Miami, throughout the last 30+ years has rarely done what everyone else is doing. Whether it was Howard choosing to go with a pro style passing game, bringing in Earl Morrall to tutor his QBs, Jimmy bringing aggressive physical defense, or Dennis going with the one back offense, Miami rarely marches to the beat of others.

With Richt here, Miami has the coaching staff, the facilities are almost at the level we should want them at, and the on field product is improving. The one thing missing is that extra little umph, I don't believe that wearing permanent throwbacks is going to provide that. I'd love to see the throwbacks as part of the uniform rotation(I'd wear them against rival schools, and on homecoming, with a different throwback set every year, to where our younger fans could see the uniforms from the fifties and sixties), but I'd also love to see Miami have uniforms that pushed the envelope a bit. The U doesn't have to be as extreme as Oregon or Maryland, but they don't have to be permanently stuck in the past either. There's a happy medium out there, and I expect the athletic department, and especially the marketing people to find it.
 
All I ask is lose the feathers and the name on the front. People know who we are for Pete's sake. Adidas does that for virtually every team they outfit, name on the front.

Yup. Like Alabama and Ohio state.
 
It wasn't until the 2000's that Miami started changing their jersey style every other year. They wore something similar to the new Adidas uniform from the 70's through 1994. In 1995 Nike made a few minor changes and they had those jerseys through the 2000 season. In 2001 They went off the map with the new style and font and those were popular mostly because the team was unbeatable. After that, they had numerous changes in colors and styles, some not bad, some outright horrible, getting to a point where Miami was wearing a gray uniform with an orange helmet. (blasphemy) Stick to the basics. Maybe have a once a year "specialty" uniform if you want to try to sell extra gear.

Couldn't agree more!!! Only older people want the classic jersey. It looks dated and goes with the theme that we're living in the past. I really think people want anything other than the current jersey. Adidas dropped the ball with that one. This is their way of trying to make people happy. Nike has done a good job making the classic jersey's look fresh.

One of the best indicators that a CIS poster is a new Miami fan and most likely a football chick: "durrrrrrrrrr uniforms help get recuitzzz....durrr oregon.."

Stupid mother****ers don't realize that programs like Oregon and Maryland have empty trophy cases, meanwhile the boring programs like Bama, OSU, etc. are cleaning up on titles and recruits.

I'm hoping you're right.

I dig the old school unis because I'm almost 40 and it reminds me of a time when Miami was dominant. When I see them I instantly think of some of the all-time greats.

The younger kids want something new, breaking edge, unique. That's one of the reasons Oregon blew up a few years back. New breaking edge facilities and eye popping unis.

Ain't nothing exciting about Penn States pedophile white and pedophile blue jerseys or ND's blue and gold.

What about Bama -- think that is the same uni Joe Willie wore when Howard coached him. Oregon and Maryland have never do crap and have no tradition or pass to rest on. We are The U and invented modern college football. Every new uni is virtually an insult.

I love how he thinks that uniforms are "one of the reasons" that Oregon blew up.
