Richt was never hired to be elite

Period.

Richt was hired to run a clean program ... Help raise money for football ... Put a competitive team on the field ... Be a great face to the public ... And win the new coach press conference.

He’s not getting fired, or even feeling a hotseat, because he’s doing what he was hired to do.

Fans want Miami to do whatever possible to be elite. But this school has already decided they aren’t playing the Top 5 program game.

If you have any questions on this, look no further than Lexington, KY. I’m not certain Richt makes more than Stoops. Think about that ... A basketball school pays their head football coach more than Miami pays their flagship sport head coach.

And both coaches are just expected to keep the programs bowl eligible, with the occasional perfect storm occurrence to finish Top 10-15. That’s it. They couldn’t care less if Richt ever makes the playoffs, or even wins the ACCCG.

The sooner folks accept this reality, the better you’ll be.

No, the program ain’t dead. But it’s much closer to being Virginia Tech than it is to being Clemson.
Even if that was true, he has failed miserably. He is not fielding a competitive team...we lost to Dook this year...DOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m not saying be happy or accept it.

But I am saying to look at the situation objectively.

And, objectively, the administration has decided they aren’t competing to be a perennial football power. If it happens, they’ll take it. But they’re not giving the football team a blank check to do whatever it takes to be elite.

And if fans are expecting that, they’re better off sticking with their pro sports team or going with another college team. Because the school will not be meeting those expectations anytime soon.
The admin payed richt $4mil, offered Diaz $1.5mil and came up with $1mil for an OC. Those aren’t salaries paid by programs who just want to be OK.

The problem is that the decision makers don’t know how to make good decisions. They keep hiring the wrong guys.

We are paying him 4 million to be average, seems we could get a cheaper coach to do that.

Or maybe he just isn't elite. Because he's sure making a pretty elite salary..

I’ve seen multiple posts indicating we came up with $1 mil for an OC, but there is no opening for an OC. So, I wonder how anyone came up with a figure for a job that isn’t open.

Should have hired Leach many years ago!

The BOT approached richt and told him if he hires an OC, they’ll give him a million a year. Richt refuses. That’s how.

We are literally cashing checks from the powers that be to be mediocre.

Pretty weak! UK is a mediocre state flagship public university. No pro teams in any sports are located in Kentucky. UK has had one decent year in 30 years. UK fans have historically been Tennessee football fans.

As for Richt, he was hired to run a clean program, graduate students and compete for ACC titles.

You are right that the admin just wants a drama free program. You are wrong to link salary to the lack of success.

If Miami had paid 6 million a year for Rick instead of 4+ million, would you be satisfied? This has zero to do with salary. It has everything to do with who we hired- a HC that had previously failed at an SEC school that gave him every possible resource. Not only that, there were people buying recruits for him (without his knowledge, of course), and just like Larry Coker, he was a successful corch who won because he generally had far better players than his opponents.

The Admin and fans who think they know football (but really don't ) are unwilling to take chances on boom or bust innovative coaches. Fans want safe "program builders/managers" like Golden or Rick. They say, "Ooh that coach made it to the playoffs or won 10 games 4 seasons in a row, he'd kill it at Miami" without understanding the circumstances that might have made a coach successful. But these same ignorant run the innovators out of town (the ones who will take 3 star S Fl recruits and make them 1st round draft picks) or totally fabricate racist lies (looking at you OGH) because the innovators aren't safe enough.

Most fans think Kirby Smart would be a huge upgrade over Rick. He'd have the same problems- no bagman at Miami. Everyone thinks Saban is the GOAT. What kind of coach was he before he joined the SEC, where cheating is a fact of life? A highly mediocre coach. Amazing acumen? Flopped in NFL. Even other college HCs throw shade and say he is vastly overrated, and wins because he has bagmen buying players. Would be kill it at Miami? Its not a sure thing- could he recruit without bags? How about not having 50 people on his coaching staff?

There are a number of imperfect coaches who developed innovative offenses (or defenses) that would win a championship at Miami, and could/would do so for considerably less money than Rick is making.

We are not having this discussion if this bozo goes 10-2 and has a Top 15 recruiting class.

Since we didn't and don't...fvck him and he can get lost. No one expected a championship, but you gotta keep it respectable. The minute Coker, Shannon, or Golden went into a territory that isn't respectable, it was dead man walkin on the green mile for them...and now its Richt's turn.

Assuming your number is accurate, the $4 million they paid CMR last year was a steal ... From the AD's business model perspective! Coastal title, turnover chain pub, Game Day host, New Year's Six bowl game. All of those things are positive impacts to the bottom line.

Get beyond the fan perspective, and look at the financial aspect. Hiring Richt brought instant credibility to the job just one search after we were looking at Al Golden and Randy Edsall as the top 2 candidates.

Almost everyone on this board knocked Dan Mullen becuase of what he did at Miss State, as if that was a decent job before he took it. But still ... Folks thought he was overrated. Mullen makes $6 million per year at Florida.

Mark Stoops make $5 million at Kentucky.

Scott Satterfield makes over $3 million at Louisville in his first P5 job.

Jeff Brohm just got Purdue to pay him $4 million.

We pay CMR average P5 money, and the expectation is for him to be above average. He's been above average in years 1 and 2. Year 3 is down. But he'll get years 4 and 5 to make things right.

Just know, making it right means competing for the Coastal, not making the playoffs.

And just know that this is a flawed proposal becasue the environment (community, fanbase, etc.) won't allow it to be the standard. It will remain toxic which will affect the financial bottom line (or at least what the football program produces in revenue compared to it's expectations). And no.........$4 million a year for coastal division expectations isn't cheap (or as you call it a steal) it's a waste of resources. I don't care what other schools are paying, you could literally meet those expectations paying a guy like Manny Diaz half that (didn't he just take $8 million over 5 years after being the most competent coach on Miami's staff the past 3). There is no financial viability in mediocrity, it's ignorance in it's purest form. And this isn't a jab at you or to say that your claim on the program's intent isn't accurate.............................just that it's completely unsustainable, and extremely stupid. Literally..................the AD business model perspective you just explained has to be the most short sighted plan possible when it's goals don't come close to meeting those of the consumer..................................that's how businesses tank.
