Richt quote on why they didn't milk clock last drive

Everyone is playing the result. If we went three and out (which happens ALL THE TIME on our "up-tempo") and left 3 minutes for them to drive and score we would all be screaming for heads to roll.

Scoring and running the clock down are not mutually exclusive. If the concern was allowing them time to set on the line then start lining up with 10 seconds and hike at 5. Not line up at 28 and hike at 23.

With 3 first downs and milking the clock the game is over. Period. We gambled and it worked. Might not be as lucky next time. I hope if we are in the situation again we can find a better balance between running out the clock and moving the ball.

You're talking as if we're a power running team. If we were that would work. We would also have pounded it in on first and goal from the 3.

Idiocy. It's like posters on here have never watched a single game this year. Our offense is just as likely to go 3 and out as it is to score. So you take every fu$&&king advantage we have to score, game clock be damned. Syracuse d is gassed, uptempo offensive which had already put up huge yardage, the decision is a no brainer.

The problem with posters on here is that they think this is a video game. That we would have still gotten a td and run more time off by milking it. Those two things do not go hand in hand.

12:30 mark he starts talking about going uptempo on the last drive

"We're trying to score, baby" lol

+1000000000 We've been begging for a coach with the killer instinct. Well there you have it.

Where was that killer instinct when he kicked the FG instead of trying to get 7 early?

Scoreboard.

We get stopped on 4th down and instead of up 20-19 when we scored the last TD, we’re behind 19-17.

Also, did you watch the whole game? It was either in the third or fourth quarter when we were the fourth down in their territory, and instead of going for about a 30 yard field goal, we went for it on fourth down and didn’t make it. Did you remember that one?

It’s called risk/reward. He made the right choices, as the scoreboard shows.

It's called situational football.

Really? You're at home and it's early in the game. You are at the 1 yd line of the visiting team that you know you are better than. You just drove the ball down the field and in position to put an early 7 on them and you wimp out because of "situational football" at that point in the game? Whatever dude.

Lol nice trolljob. Going for it would have been absolute idiocy.

It was 0-0 from the 1. Chances are they get the yard and go up 7-0. Set the tone early at home. Syracuse walked away with a "win" on that one.

I understand going uptempo there because SU was getting gassed, and Malik works best when he doesn't have to stand around or think too much. Our OL gets after it too when they don't have to stay squatting in their stance for too long.

There's also the idea of getting first downs and ending the game with your offense taking knees. I think we needed 3 first downs on that final drive to end the game with our offense taking knees if we milked the clock down to 5 seconds before every snap.

In the end, it worked out well, but a 4 minute offense when you're leading is designed to end the game taking knees.

The Syracuse line was gassed and Rick made up his mind that our odds were better to catch a seam if he went uptempo.

I was at the game and was initially questioning his decision, but after a couple of plays, it was clear to me what he was doing. He was playing the tempo game and it worked. There actually was very little risk Running tempo when it was clear they were gassed and we were tearing of chunks through the air and the ground.

It's the one yard line of the team you just drove roughly 75 yards on. Not going for it made MR look weak.

In a 0-0 game, on 4th down, you have to break the cherry. Now, on the other downs ...

We are awful inside the 5. What makes going for it on 4th down a smart decision? I don't even view it as an aggressive decision. It's just a dumb one - especially on first drive of the game.

Fans like me were ****ed that MR kicked the FG and guys like you probably fist pumped the FG from the 1, in a 0-0 game, early at home, against an opponent you are better than.

One of the best parts of the Langham TD against FSU was Richt telling Malik to be smart....but saying “let’s go!” Aka go for it, At the same time.

I don’t mind Richts reasoning but we could have ran that clock down below a minute if we snap at 2-3 seconds on the clock. We got a 1st down etc. there was zero chance of them having 3 minutes unless we ran hurry up and threw 3 straight incompletions.

Nobody was happy about not getting the TD, clown.

If you can't punch it in from the one against Syracuse then you can rack any thought of beating VT or Clemson back on the shelf.

No guarantees we get 3 first downs by slowing it down.
Coach said we had them on their heels with more of an up tempo.
They were gassed. We took advantage.

With less time, yes, milk it.
In that situation, run your offense the best way you see fit to get a TD.

I understood what he was doing along with the argument against it but at the end of the day that Cuse kicker had me scared to death of allowing them any shot of winning that game on a FG. So I think you absolutely do what Rick ended up doing and just get the points.

"No, we're trying to score, baby!"

From six to midnight.
