Of course they have to win matchups. No one is expecting Mark Richt, or any coach, to go out and out-scheme every team Miami plays to the tune of 50 points without breaking a sweat. We all know the OL isn't great, and we all know Rosier is awful.
But the literal definition of good coaching is adapting your scheme to your player's abilities. You don't just do the same things over and over and over again. You learn from your mistakes. The OL can't pass protect adequately for several seconds? Throw quick passes. You can't run the ball in the middle? Run misdirection. You have athletic advantages? Scheme up ways to get the ball to those players in space. Do. Something. Different.
Richt (and for some reason, a lot of people here) continue to say we should be able to line up and execute the simple, archaic offense and beat teams like UVA and BC. And I agree. But guess what? THEY'RE NOT DOING THAT! So how bout trying something different? Instead of just saying, "Hmmmm, this should work" and scratching your head while quizzically looking at your playsheet, do something different for Christ's sake.
