Richt Extended

The extension points to stability and a coach that is most likely going to be a Cane for years...that is an important brick in the recruiting foundation.
Winning NCs is the only thing that will bring stability. This is not UGA or even FSU. Mark has to be better than he was at UGA, or at least get better results than there or 2023 is one long a$$$ way away in Miami years. Like any oth Miami coach he needs a NC.

I understand what you're saying about waiting another year. I still have nightmares about Golden and Shannon getting extensions prior to deserving them. I think this may have been done to send a message of stability to donors and to recruits alike that Mark is committed to Miami and we in turn are committed to him, you, and this community.

I do understand your hesitance though because I don't think he was going anywhere either.[/QUOT

Don’t forget Coker, who got one after he prove he wasn’t good enough with only ST and no Ed Reed. This school has never been as smart as you give them credit. They are lazy and don’t like hiring new coaches unless the old one is winning too much and wants to be paid for it. I wrote one of the smaller bid checks that got Howard here. These smucks have never been committed to anything or anyone other than themselves and that has not changed.

I like the new prez and think he cares. But one man does not change an institution of selfish self serving the turds. They took the easy way out figuring we will not rebell again for 5 or 6 years if Mark stays.

You can not treat every situation the same. Just because it was a mistake to extend Al Golden (during his first season in which they went 6-6) doesn't mean you just stop giving coaches contract extensions. Mark Richt is not Al Golden. Even if you consider him to be a good coach but not good enough to win the big one, that still puts him miles ahead of Al Golden or Randy Shannon. His contract runs through 2023. Having Richt under contract for five years is perfectly fine with me.

Also, not calling you out specifically, Gatorhater. I just quoted you because a lot of people are assuming that because extending Golden was a bad idea, extending any coach is also a bad idea.

I get you. Mark is superior to golden, Randy, and Coker in every way. Just remember we had some really really good coaches they didn’t bother to make sure they had locked up. Howard, JJ, and Butch all had real problems getting early solid extensions. It is an institutional thing here to reward the none deserving better than the winner. I’m fine with Mark getting extended. It is just that in two years we will know if he needs to be replaced or not. They already know they don’t want to regardless.

Why would I care, or know, what FSU fans have taken credit for? Why should it matter anyhow. Miami struggled a lot more than just the FSU game. Only dopes like you don't realize that your 10 win season resulted in barely beating the worst FSU team in recent memory. It took Mark that much of a disparity to beat FSU. Congrats to him for the miracle victory.

Go back and watch the entire season. Miami was not better at the end of the season. I don't care that they lost their starting RB, TE and top WR. The rest of the team didn't really improve.

That is on the coaches. All you do is point to the 10 wins, and then magically make up excuses for the season ending 3 game losing streak.
What’s on the coaches is trying to make chicken salad out of Golden’s chicken chit. At the end of the season all our injuries and a lousy QB.Richt did the best he could with that mess. He’ll have an even harder time this year with no OL to speak of and the same chitty QB.

You could see this coming after last year. When Richt came the market price was four mil. That's what he made at Ga. and it was competitive with what other quality coaches were making . That all changed last year with new coaches getting seven mil. Gus Malzahn was among existing coaches that got raised to that figure. This extension probably started with an agent contact to the school. That's the way it works. I approve and think we are fortunate to have him but Miami had to make a move.

I would have waited another year because I rather he feel a little heat and he isn't going anyplace but it is not like they are going to fire him. The biggest problem is the university's horrible track record with extensions more than Mark's pros and cons. In then end, if Mark wins a NC, this is great move. If he keeps losing 3,4 or 5 games a years, it is a big mistake. Last year was Mark's best start ever and only time he ever got to 10-0. That is either a great sign or worrisome fact.

Prematurely extended him, no doubt about it. It's done and we'll see what the ramifications of it are long term. We have officially gone all in with Richt and if he can't raise his game, well....Miami is likely to never be back as defined by our runs years ago.

First of all it doesn't matter whether Miami had to a move or not.it's about the condition the team is in.are we better off now and heading in the right direction compared to when cmr got here.we all admit the answer is yes.in two years we've won a bowl game and won the coastal.and doing it with what cmr had to work with.in my opinion cmr earned that extension and the assistants deserve a raise.and if it doesn't work out by 2023 cmr won't leave the cupboard like it was when he got here

This is plain jane retarded. If he averages 10-4 and 11-3 seasons, never winning a title, but contending consistently for Coastal and ACC titles, he will be retained for as long as he wants. He will NEVER BE FIRED for averaging 10.5 wins per season.

You may be right but aren’t you describing his tenure at UGA? Maybe you are being scarcastic and I missed it because you didn’t mention getting good recruiting classes every year too.

Richt = a Poor Man's Marty Shottenheimer

If 9-4, 10-3 is our ceiling in perpetuity then this is a great move.

In what world do you exceed expectations on your job, but yet do not deserve to be rewarded for your work?

This muf'ucking booby licker needs to go suck his mother's ****y so he can quit crying like a lil bytch!

He can't, her ****ies are scarred.

This is the best position Miami has been in a while. Top 10 for majority of the season, bringing back talent on the roster with an elite recruiting class coming in with a couple talented signal callers on the roster as well. Anyone denying that at this point ain’t no **** Miami fan. Things haven’t went this well for us on and off the field since the early 2000s

I have Negative comments at times on Richts coaching too or about certain aspects about coaching decisions or whatever too but you take shots in EVERY post and act like the program is trash like we have been anywhere near the position we are at now in terms of a combination of increased facilities, good coaching staff and recruiters, great talent on the team and incoming. We haven’t been close to the spot we are now in over 10 years. You are expecting immediate championships, we were that **** close last season from being undefeated in the regular season(I agree We shouldn’t have lost that **** game). But we have had to change the culture the last2 seasons in all aspects and are still undergoing that process.

You guys hear one thing negative and then make up all types of arguments that don't exist.

All I have ever said was I didn't like the hire of MR. Every body ran with it and turned it into something else. So I expanded on why I felt that way. Nothing more or less.

Of course the program is better off today than it was during the last two coaches. But everybody gives credit to MR as though he came riding in on his white horse to save the day. Having Donna step down was a much bigger deal for the athletics department than it was hiring MR.

Miami has had good recruiting classes without MR as the head coach. How high did they typically rank when they were winning or playing for titles? Let's not go overboard before you even see his classes come to fruition.

I don't have a personal vendetta against him, I just didn't like him as the head coach. It's that simple.

Something that seems to be forgotten is that Foldem was gone well before Richt became available. Who would you rather we hired? Richt comes with an impeccable reputation, over 30 years of successful coaching experience, understands as well as anyone the culture of the "U", understands the culture of SoFla HS football, and to top it off, he's an alum. After the scandals, ****** coaching over the last 10 years or so, incompetence in the athletic administration, etc., etc., do you think he can overcome that in 2 years???? I'm not crowing him just yet, but we're in a **** of lot better state in JUST 2 years then we were before Richt was hired.

I have conflicted feelings on this. I'm a big fan of the Richt hire, but last year it took two Darrell Langham miracle catches to keep us from being 8-5 (or worse!) We also looked outclassed against Wisconsin. Was it the team talent? Maybe. Losing Walton was huge but I think QB play was the biggest factor in being so close to really disappointing season. Yet Richt insists that Rosier gives us the best chance to win in 2018? That's absolutely insane and not what I want to see out of a coach who has aspirations to win a national title.

If Williams is close to Rosier at the end of camp, Richt has to give Williams the ball. I'll take his unknown ceiling and inexperience over Rosier's well documented inconsistency. If Richt can't see that, he shouldn't have received those extra years and a pay bump.

Another poster who can't live in a world where others have differing opinions. So you want posters like me to disappear because we don't buy into all of the MR hype? Why can't you toughen up your back bone enough to withstand the negative responses to MR and his coaching? Are my words, and others like me, just too tough for you to handle.

If so, you should just put me on ignore like the rest of the weak posters on here. That's why the mods created the option. So guys like you didn't become offended and become a victim of my words.
Jesus Christ stop being a *****

With Richt we’ll have very good teams, but we’ll never be elite. You’ll never see Miami playing in the national title game with Richt S head coach. Never! He’s just not that dude.

We will be like Richts UGA teams or like Ohio State was under John Cooper. In fact, Richt and John Cooper are near clones of each other. Can’t win the big game

In your honest opinion, and assuming Kirby Smart would have accepted a position in Coral Gables, would Smart have gotten us to the National Championship in year 2? Knowing full well that he is recruiting using Miami's fan base, facilities, and Golden's players.
