Richt Extended

I would have waited another year because I rather he feel a little heat and he isn't going anyplace but it is not like they are going to fire him. pros and cons. The biggest problem is the university's horrible track record with extensions more than Mark's pros and cons. In then end, if Mark wins a NC, this is great move. If he keeps losing 3,4 or 5 games a years, it is a big mistake. Last year was Mark's best start ever and only time he ever got to 10-0. That is either a great sign or worrisome fact.

You can not treat every situation the same. Just because it was a mistake to extend Al Golden (during his first season in which they went 6-6) doesn't mean you just stop giving coaches contract extensions. Mark Richt is not Al Golden. Even if you consider him to be a good coach but not good enough to win the big one, that still puts him miles ahead of Al Golden or Randy Shannon. His contract runs through 2023. Having Richt under contract for five years is perfectly fine with me.

Also, not calling you out specifically, Gatorhater. I just quoted you because a lot of people are assuming that because extending Golden was a bad idea, extending any coach is also a bad idea.

I understand what you're saying about waiting another year. I still have nightmares about Golden and Shannon getting extensions prior to deserving them. I think this may have been done to send a message of stability to donors and to recruits alike that Mark is committed to Miami and we in turn are committed to him, you, and this community.

I do understand your hesitance though because I don't think he was going anywhere either.

And on the flip side, they've only extended it out far enough, to cover the next couple recruiting cycles, college tenure. I can see far more pros here than cons!!

Richt had three years on his contact.
The college career is four years.
This is to show every recruit that he'll be here for their whole college career and he's not retiring before their senior year.

Original ****tt ****t ****t couldn't be further from the truth.

Why would I be ****ed about something everybody could see coming as soon as Miami beat a bad FSU team? This extension was going to happen no matter what I, or anybody else said.

You seem to not be able to compartmentalize issues. I don't like Mark as the head coach here. That doesn't automatically give it a nexus with other on going issues with the team. Some it does, some it doesn't.

We can revisit this extension after he puts out an inferior product this year as it relates to last year. He get's his extension and will immediately follow that up with a 2-3 place finish in the division. But golly, he's a great guy.

I LIKE BIG MOUTH MUTHA****AS LIKE YOU YOUR HEART IS EMPTY.

SO LET'S CALL YOUR BLUFF ILL LET DMONEY SETUP AN ACCOUNT AND I'LL BET 10K AND PUT THE MONEY IN DMONEY ACCOUNT THAT WE'LL WIN THE ATLANTIC AGAIN THIS YEAR VS YOUR 10K THAT WE'LL FINISH SECOND OR WORSE LET'S BET.

NO EXCUSES JUST SAY YES.

Hopefully this works out because I don't want to watch the Miami version of the Mark Richt Bulldogs with consistent 9-4, 10-3 seasons. Being in the ACC coastal he should average no less then 10-11 wins a year.

I couldn’t be happier. It’s well deserved. We are flat out lucky & I do mean lucky to have him.

I also think HE was lucky to have the spot open so he could come here as well. It’s a good deal when both sides feel they won.

I have no idea or ability....or ******* desire to comprehend the people who think differently on this subject.

We could never be hurt by having Richt be our coach for 6-10 years. Proven winner and recruiter. With a chance to be the longest tenured coach in Miami history.

The extension points to stability and a coach that is most likely going to be a Cane for years...that is an important building block in the recruiting foundation.

love richt I really do

but the contract is a tad early honestly

whatever though, it's not like it's al golden.. that extension was numbnuts level of stupid

Only dopes like you don't realize that your 10 win season resulted in barely beating the worst FSU team in recent memory.

"Your?" Which school do you root for? Don't you mean "our?"

The fact that we have people whining about Richt getting an extension, without knowing diddly squat about the buyout terms, is a joke. I could extend a coach until the world ends, but if the buyout terms aren't onerous then it doesn't matter. Never mind the fact that Richt has the program trending in the right direction. This extension makes sense, because it the program is in a good spot, and a bit of implied stability can only help this staff on the recruiting trail.
