For everyone crowning James Coley (aka Pricko Suave) right now, let me propose the theory that maybe Kaaya's a MUCH more cerebral QB than Morris ever was, and that he's making a lot of the calls at the LOS now that Pricko Suave has gotten the fvck out of his way.
Having a QB with head talent as well as arm talent is a big ******* deal...and even more so when he's a true Freshman. I normally don't make these comparisons, but dammit--Kaaya's looking more and more like Ken Dorsey with every passing game. His numbers have gone down since we've leaned more on the running game, but some of the throws he's made along with his orchestration of the checks needed given what he reads pre-snap have been stellar.
As much as I dislike Pricko Suave, at least he's committed to the running game--and somehow, they've made the stretch zone run play work better than it did last year and earlier in the season...so, props for that. BUT--I think a big part of the offense being more consistent as of late is something we can thank Kaaya for--more than anything else.
Now--against F$U, they're going to likely load the box and make Kaaya make some reads and throws to beat them. Kaaya just needs to be smart with the football, hit his checkdowns when available, and keep the ball moving. We may have to pass the ball a little to open up the run. Kaaya needs to find the TE's and RB's in the passing game early and often, get those DB's to creep up and help their mostly-injured/depleted LB corps...and then we can hit some homeruns with Dorsett and get Duke to the edge in the run game. If we don't get those DB's to creep up, specifically the safeties, we won't be able to take advantage of the aggressiveness of a guy like Jalen Ramsey playing over the top. Anyone that's watched F$U play this year knows that Ramsey has probably been their best defensive player. We have to attack him, neutralize his playmaking ability by making him cover one-on-one, and have success in short/intermediate playaction to keep him from pinning his ears back on blitzes.
