Restrepo is not hurt

At one time he was viewed as an *** kiss and a try hard. That culture is dead and the try hard culture is the standard. When working hard and doing things right is viewed as a negative by teammates the culture is trash. He’s now the face of the program and his work ethic is trickling down.

I remember when he was a freshman and made a few blunders like trying to field a punt that maybe he shouldn’t have because it was headed over the sidelines. A number of fans said he wasn’t a UM caliber player. I disagreed and thought he wasn’t making boneheaded mistakes, he making an effort to turn a punt rolling out of bounds into a 10 or 15 yard gain. It didn’t seem like much but he was giving 100% effort and was willing to take a hard hit and sacrifice his body to advance the football. Maybe he wasn’t the most talented guy, but he had the right mentality and work ethic. He just needed more reps and eventually he’d find a place on the field. I was worried he wouldnt get that chance as coaches might value pure athleticism over effort. You can’t teach heart or natural instincts. As a high school coach of mine once said, "if they don’t bite as a puppy, they aren’t going to bite."

I thought the fans were missing what he brought to the table- but if it was as you indicated and his own teammates were clowning him for his heart, then the culture was indeed broken beyond repair. Can’t imagine being on a team where a player gets made fun of for trying too hard.

I don’t like pulling receipts unless it’s in like a funny way, or unless people were taking criticism to a personal extreme level and should be clowned for it

But wow we could have a field day with X takes

I believe it was a punt return against Clemson, I had the exact same situation.

A friend said he sucked right after that, but if you follow recruiting you knew X was slept on and was going to contribute, and that was an error based on effort/lack of experience, which are hard to get mad at.

100% bro.
They're an incredible family though. It's not hard to see how X turned out the way he did.

I heard a story one time...
X went on a college visit. Even though they were out of town on a visit, (I wanna say to Maryland) his dad still woke him up for a morning workout.

Some kids you just KNOW are gonna be successful in life. He's one of them.

if u ever met his mom u would understand......she is wired and high strung. Usually its the pops like that when u have a kid like x thats all business like in approach but whenever i have encountered the fam pops is chillin non chalantly...n mom dukes is doing something athletic or on tilt. lol

He has a lil bro im sure he will be a recruit down the line. Mom was shown in the crowd i think during the gator game getting wild throwing up the u lol

Shame that was allowed, X has always seemed to do it the right way. Can’t wait to see him go on to have a long career in the NFL after getting g the recognition he deserves this season.

Mediocre people hate high achievers.

He’s stealing snaps from Breshard Smith and only catches passes because TVD is his roommate.
lol these takes were insane. Anybody who knows ball knows that X is an excellent player. Someday this board will have posts in the game thread “wish Restrepo was still here” during a game we’re struggling to pass the ball. Book it. Guy is as reliable and automatic as it gets as a college wideout.

I hate to be this guy… but could you imagine if JS chose to play here? Lord…

Well put and precisely why those of us who talked about a broken culture needing time to get fixed. Diaz left a full blown cancerous locker room and roster behind and to be a hard-working underclassman who did things the right way and put in ten times the effort lazy upperclassmen; he's gonna be seen as a problem.

Fast-forward to better management up top—one that instills a work-hard attitude—a guy like X becomes the face and example of the program; a sign the culture is back on track.
