Let’s be really real for a second.

I think I’ve made it pretty **** clear I am all-in on Mario, and have been for almost a decade. Hiring him is the best thing that’s happened for the last 20 years.

But, as elite as he is at this crooting game, certain things have to happen for other things to come to fruition.

In January of 2024, remember that’s only about 30 months ago, we were a month away from starting spring ball with Emory Williams and Reese Poffenbarger competing to be our starting QB. On the 13th of that month, Cam Ward decided to put the NFL on hold, and become a Miami Hurricane.

Now, we can’t say for sure exactly how things play out if this doesn’t happen. Mario is a cyborg recruiting terminator, I’m sure we still sign a good bit of excellent football players. However, I think it’s certain we don’t win 10 games in 2024 without Cam. If we don’t win 10, does Mali come? Remember, he decommitted once before. I’m not sure he signs up here if we go 7-5 with Emory/The Poff. We all know the impact Mali has on kids in SFL. If we don’t get him, do we get Nick? Do we get A1? Do we make it to the natty last year, and subsequently sign another excellent class? I’m not sure.

But what I am sure, is Cameron Ward is the most important player we’ve had in 20 years here. Remember, a LOT of people on and off this board were very skeptical of Mario in the first place, and then we went 5-7, and then we had the GT debacle leading to 7-6 in 2023. Another mediocre season, and I’m not sure we’re here right now. I’m not sure we have FIVE 5-stars in the boat, with possibly more on the way.

So I just want people to understand and respect what 1 did while he was here. Everyone, literally everyone involved with getting him here, plus he and his family deserve all the flowers. If we go on the run we all think we can the next 5+ years, and we hang banner #6 up soon, I think Cam becomes one of the most important players in the HISTORY of this program. Up there with Mel Bratton and Zo Highsmith, who came here in the early 80s when nobody elite locally was doing it. With Howard and the other all-time greats.

Thank you, Cam. Thank you, Mario. We got a LONG way to go…..this **** ain’t even close to written yet. But boys, we are about to have some fun for a long, long time. Buckle up.

Great post
No Cam in 2024 the season would had been a disaster with that horrendous defense
Probably meaning we would not have got some transfers and some recruits that made 2025 magical
We go record negative in 2024 without him and it wouldn’t been cool in Mario’s season #3

Credit to Mario to close the deal on Cam

I don’t see a world where that 2024 team wins more than 6 games without Cam. And it’s probably more like 5.

Does Martinez come if Cam doesn’t? Doubtful.

Does Beck come if we’re coming of 5-7, 7-6, 5-7? No chance in ****.

And like you said, the ripple effects in high school recruiting.

How many QBs reference Ward when they commit? No Beck, No Mensah, No Abrams, No Cypher.. Sheesh..

God bless Cam Ward!

Thank god we went with 1A over 1B.

Toney locally has been huge. That success got the ball rolling and its evident with the Sears/Lennear commitments.

BUT if Can Ward does not sign with Miami, There probably is no Malachi Toney.

Ward was the spark plug that changed the culture.

Thank You Cam Ward🙏🙌

Most important player we’ve ever recruited
People keep giving Mali most of the credit which is ok but they forget this guy, this is the dude that changed the program IMO. I said it then and now and people were shocked, that he would be a top 3 pick and possibly number 1 in the draft before he took a snap here.

I say a lot that’s wrong but I had him for the Heisman back in the spring that year

I knew he was elite talent but the first interview I heard from him he had that Kobe gene. I was like this dude is actually “built different”

People mimicking his celebration in every sport. Social media going insane over some of his throws. NIL becoming a business etc

We’ve had many legends here but the way he flipped a perception almost over night that was picked up by guys like Mali. Beck was the same. Say what you want about Becks game but it was all over the news him picking us. Miami was back in the spotlight. Doesn’t happen without Cam though

The off field investment/interest Cam and Beck made in the community also was huge. Neither of them are from here. They didn't have to go out and meet kids, watch HS games etc. yet, they both did.

They may have only been here for 1 year, but both are Canes every single day of the week, and now, twice on Sundays 🥲

Facts

Months before he entered the portal I was told we were on him. Never seen him play then watched his WS highlights, I said after watching two minutes that it was the easiest film to watch. I said that’s the best qb in America, then I talked myself into Reese Fartingburger cause my **** was hurt he was taking too long to pick us.

When he came on board he changed it all but that’s also credit to Mario. I overlooked culture for years cause of time and my teams culture of losing across the board. I forgot how it looked, I just wanted talent regardless of culture or if a talent was cooked. Now I get it and that’s because of Mario and Cam and now Mali

Feels like we went through a string of that where OOS guys would come here and show more love than the ones in our own backyard

You always needed that cool and trendy player to really bring it back

Always good to have the local guys but when Miami was at its best we are more National than probably any other program has ever been

Nice that our coach Miami through and through understands this better than anyone
